Tailing the Komets

Some numbers

Things found while looking for something else.
The good:
The Komets are 21-4-3 when scoring first.
The Komets are 20-6-3 against non-division leaders.
The Komets' power play has climbed to fifth in the UHL, and the penalty kill to third.
The Komets have out-scored their opponents 46-29 in the first period.
The Komets are 16-3-1 when leading after the first period and 18-1-1 when leading after the second period.
The Komet shooters have the best shootout percentage in the league at .462.
The Komets are 8-2-1 when leading after the first period and 8-0-1 when leading after the second period at home.
The Komets are 8-3-2 when out-shooting opponents on the road.

The bad:
The Komets are a respectable 11-8-2 on the road but are also 11-9-1 at home.
Opponents have had 42 more power-play chances than the Komets, or one more per game.
The Komets have been out-scored 44-38 in the third period despite out-shooting their opponents 474-424.
The Komets are 5-4-3 in one-goal games, and that includes four shootout wins.
The Komets are only 10-8-1 when out-shooting opponents at home.

The ugly:
The Komets are 4-9-2 this season in the last game of the weekend that
includes at least back-to-back games, and are 1-5-1 in those games at
home.
The Komets are 0-9-1 when trailing after the first period and 0-13-1 when trailing after two periods.
The Komets are 0-5-0 when trailing after the first period and 0-7-0 when trailing after the second period at home.
The Komets are 1-13-0 when their opponents score first.
The Komets are 2-11 against division leaders Danbury, Muskegon and Rockford.

What do you think are the obvious trends these numbers suggest?

Also, Colin Chin's mother died at age 65 over the weekend. Viewing will be 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at McComb and Son's on Lake Avenue.

Oh my. Condolences to the Chin family. I had the honor of working with her for a short period of time at the Dana Plant in Churubusco. I ate lunch with her everyday. She was a very nice lady. We talked alot about raising small children since my kids were smaller at that time.

On to the numbers, 2-11 against Rockford, Muskegon, and Danbury...

to add to that...The Komets only beat Rockford in that group 2 times..The Komets have never beaten Danbury. They are 0-6 against them lifetime. Muskegon has blown the Komets out just about everytime they have faced each other. Although the next time these 2 teams meet, it wont be a blowout. The Komets are much improved.

See my comment posted a couple of weeks ago. Komets are "Best of the Rest" but not able to compete with the top clubs. My prediction, Komets end up 5th overall (Muskegon, Rockford, K-Zoo, Danbury, Komets) and lose in the first round.

not at all komets related. but check out the stats for this goalie his last year in Juniors. The scary thing is, he got not one but THREE chances at the pro level afterwards!!!
http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/pdisplay.php3?pid=00025865 and no folks, when you see his won-lost record, it was not a typo. That team was the worst excuse for a hockey team in the history of junior (or maybe any) level of hockey.
