Tailing the Komets

Some things I've heard today

* Seems obvious to me the Komets are trying to load up on their developmental players, which is 128 pro games or less under the last CHL collective bargaining agreement. They've got four already in Keith Rodger, Brandon Naurato, Bobby Phillips and Derek Patrosso. That's smart to save room on the salary cap, and each team had to play five last season.

* Lincoln Kaleigh Schrock told me he's had several offers from ECHL teams and he's trying to decide which opportunity will give him the best opportunity to advance his career. He's scheduled to meet again with the Komets over the next week or so. "It's not about money,'' he said.

* David Franke said he's focusing on signing Leo Thomas, P.C. Drouin and Guy Dupuis as his veterans, which will leave him at least one, maybe two more spots available.

* Justin Chwedoruk said he counts as a veteran under CHL rules and he has not heard from the Komets yet. He said he's got a couple of options in Europe.

* The Komets have talked to Mathieu Curadeau who said he has interest in returning to Fort Wayne, but he also is looking for the best chance to move up first. "Fort Wayne has been an amazing place for me for two years, and they are in a good position to ask me back."

* Matt Syroczynski said he's conttalking with the Komets, has an offer in Europe and another in the ECHL. "I'm not in a huge rush to decide."

* David Hukalo said he has no idea what's going to happen with himself. He's still looking for a job.

*  David Franke said he'll likely be announcing some more signings later this week and next week. The Komets are talking to more players from Flint and Port Huron, and ``there are a ton of players out there looking for work."

* Just because your favorite player has not been listed here does not mean the Komets are not talking to them. It just means I have not heard back from that player to hear it from their mouths yet.

Yep, just like Y2K said, developmental players in the CHL are rookies in the IHL, just a different name and a different number put to the name.

Rob... I believe you were thinking "adept" (i.e. "thoroughly proficient").

I hate Brad Wingnut. Awful player, awful person. First Class Jerk.

We'll see. They are talking to both. BW Brandon Warner is who I was talking about. They are also talking to Nick Boucher and he's got some offer elsewhere as well. Brad MacMillan told me he's not signing until the CBA is done.

This all changes day-to-day on both sides.

Alan....I saw where Rodger played nearly the same number of games that Mironovic had last season, like within 10 games or so....I know, I was shocked myself. I think it's because he was not out there for very long in each game, or maybe because Coach had him at forward for some of the time. That's what had me fooled as well.

Thanks, all, for clearing up the "rookie vs developmental player" thing for me....I was seriously confused. This whole thing had just been starting to make sense to me, then it gets switched! LOL....don't confuse the redhead, people! Thanks to you guys (and girls) on here, I can maybe understand this new league once the league understands itself.

Wasn't Cescon the guy who Chaulker yanked down to the ice this past season and got a standing ovation, fairly close to the end of the regular season? He'd been being hassled by him nearly all game, finally seized his moment, and knocked him right off his skates as he went past. If I'm remembering the right guy, it was a sweet moment. Glad the guy is on our team, because he was a pain in the butt....

Blueline Baby, you were correct that Rodger had appeared in nearly the same number of games as Mironovic. The problem is that if a player dresses for the game, plays only one shift, or is used very sparingly, it skews that stat. Mironovic played regular shifts, Rodger did not.

Also, I would like to nominate Blueline Baby for the Tailing the Komets quote of the year.

"... I can maybe understand this new league once the league understands itself."

A perfect way to describe the fluid, mind bending, walk through the dark rules that may or may not even apply when all the crap is sorted out.

If it wasn't so sad, it would be funny.

LOL....thanks for the votes, guys....I think....it is sorta of funny. I am trying to learn, and this is not helping when the rules change on me. It was hard enough when they only changed in my head. ;)

And yeah, Alan....it does skew the stats when a guy plays one shift per game. Plus with Rodger, it was just wrong. He is a great player, so I am looking forward to him getting more ice time this season. "...If I win this award, underutilized good Komet defensemen everywhere will be played to their full potential..." Sorry, just rehearsing my acceptance speech if I win the Quote of the Year award....

And Burgee....don't hate me because I"m beautiful...LOL....
