Tailing the Komets

Some updates

Just talked to David Franke.

On Jimmy Bonneau: ``I talked with him earlier in the summer, but he was pretty confident he was going to get an AHL deal. If he doesn't, I'm sure I'll hear from him.''

On Dustin Molle: ``We've talked to him. Al talked to him last week, but he still hasn't sent his contract in. Maybe Dustin is waiting to see where his brother goes.''

On Simon Mangos: ``We're still talking, and we're getting closer, but we don't have his paperwork done or anything. I'd say there's still a good chance we can get him on board. He had some shoulder surgery, but he's fine. All it was was to kind of tighten the shoulder up.''

On Artem Podshendyalov: ``We're working in that direction now. I'm working with him on a contract, and also checking out what we have to do with his immigration. I would expect sometime here that we'll get him back on board.''

On the schedule: ``They are just working on a few changes on it. I think it will be this week, but I don't know when.''

On everything else: ``There are certain players we're going after and certain players we may have to wait a little longer because of the possibility of their going to Europe. Hopefully by the end of this week or early next week we'll have a few more names to jump on board. We're just being very deliberate. We have a lot of things going on that we can't pull the trigger on until we know exactly what going on with some other things. One thing has to fall into place before I can take action on another thing.

``It's like a puzzle, but I think we're all right. We're close to doing a lot of things.''

I too have aot of things that I am waiting on. I am looking at one thing hoping it happens, if it does, then I can move onto something else. I will have other things happen that make something else happen, too. If that other thing occurs, then I will be able to figure out which other things are next. Those other things I am thinking about.....

7-10 days folks.

I think it's a good thing they don't have a ton of guys signed. There are a ton of good players still out there, and there are going to be a ton of guys getting released from AHL and ECHL camps in Sept. looking for work. The fact that the Ks won't have their roster locked up could mean some pretty good players will consider them then.

They were close with making decisions last time we had an update! COME ON! I am ready for some hockey...

but if the lack of signings means a better team, I will try to practice patience. It is just so so hard!

I just need the schedule so I can plan my entire social life, also helps me so I can plan excuses for not going out to eat with Schebig, he makes me pay all the time.

Records will fall this year, its going to be a great year, Komets regular season champions again.

We need lots of fighters, they are not a deterrent unless you play them every shift, I want Jimmy back, I Love Birdies, I want to throw chuck a pucks at Schebig, I want my Komet Kuarters one time discount ticket, CHL refs stink and I want to yell at them, I want ice scraper night again

A ton of players released from the AHL and ECHL? So the Komets would sign players CUT from the ECHL? I thought the ECHL and CHL were pretty much the same. Maybe a little difference but not much I would assume. So does that mean players CUT from ECHL would be stars in the CHL? The Komets should push hard after AHL players that are CUT.

Actually I'm sitting in my recliner, thinking of all the things that I could get done also. But thinking about them is tiring and giving me a headache. I will do them tomorrow. Or at least think about them tomorrow.

Somebody made a good point over at FYC pertaining to the lack of a CHL schedule out to this point....

Evansville has yet to successfully negotiate a lease for the new arena yet.... According to the Evansville Courier, negotiations are at a stalemate....

According to certain people all hockey leagues below the AHL are equal and there is no talent differential between any of them, KometKrazy. That is why all the stwrs of the old IHL tore up the CHL last year.

Any chance that Geary buys Roberts Arena and makes the changes needed to have a sheet of ice there?

Or could the Evansville players be FAs soon?

T-Rob if you want him??? Bicek?

What an absolute mess in Evansville.

For a community that has some excitement with a new AA hockey team, maybe a new arena to play in, and now they have all this drama from some dipstick appointed politician that is trying to line his pockets.

Blake, does David Franke have any insight into this situation.

Sounds very bad.

Did you read some of the comments. Geary would be better off moving them to Lvile

That was a wonderful display of double talk. What was the line toward the end of the movie "Analyze This"? Something like, "how can we talk about the second thing before we've talked about the first".

As far as Evansville goes...wouldn't you have thought all these agreements would've been made long before this? My suggestion? Go back and play your games at Swonder except the ones against Fort Wayne. Play those game at the Memorial Coliseum, just like last year. Just kidding, folks. ( I'm pretty sure that Fort Wayne lost all of those "home games" last year ).

Serious thought here. Blake, tell me the players who the Komets were able to pick off from cuts from ECHL and AHL camps who were difference makers in the past? The Komets know what they have to do but it just seems like they can't bring themselves to it. Waiting and hoping for someone to drop into your lap is risky. And besides, who is to say that they still can't do that and just reduce the roster?

The city of Evansville owns the new Arena, Swonder, and Roberts (which needs too much work to get ready for hockey this season....). So it sounds as if its the new arena or move the franchise...

Evansville is a game of "Chicken" who will blink first.
They will work it out in plenty of time. The real problem and maybe why the CHL can't release their schedule is that the Iceman don't know what dates (if any) they will have!

Off the top of my head: Jonathan Goodwin, Brent Henley, Luciano Aquino, Nick Boucher, Sean O'Connor. In other words, guys worth waiting for.

Komets just signed Mangos.

If thats true, not a bad pickup. 32 Points last season for the Mudbugs and 15 in the Playoffs, we could have really used those stats out of some of our other defensemen last year.

Interesting names. I thought Luciano Aquino was a player who had lost favor with that NY Islanders, was on the last year of his contract, and was sent here instead of Bridgeport because of a suggestion from former Komets coach, and, then Bridgeport assistant coach Pat Bingham. He did play 39 games with Pensacola and Utah of the ECHL the year before his Komet stint as he was being passed around even back then.

Nick Boucher played in the UHL for Elmira and Muskegon. He did play in the ECHL, too.

Sean O'Connor came to Fort Wayne after playing club hockey at Western Michigan University. He played a few games with kalamazoo of the ECHL but was let go. Before that his only professional experience was with the Komets.

I don't remember how Jonathon Goodwin came to Fort Wayne. I know he played at Providence College and was a rookie for the K's. I know it was under Greg Puhalski. I also don't remember the circumstances of Brent Henley.

Still, I guess my point is that I wouldn't hold roster spots hostage hoping for a gem.

JR1
Wed, 08/03/2011 - 12:16pm

Goodwin played in the ECHL for 10 games (at the end of the season) after his college career was over and then signed with the K's the following year....

Boucher played 2 seasons in the ECHL for 2 teams with a cup of coffee stint in the AHL (6 games), 1 season in the UHL for 2 teams, and 1 season overseas in 2 different leagues before signing with the K's in the IHL2's first season... He was considered a 'head case' when he came here...

Aquino had so thouroughly burnt every bridge with the Islanders organization that they sent him to the K's because niether their AHL or ECHL affiliates wanted him on the roster... He was considered a 'head' case when he came here...

Henley came here while under suspension in the ECHL (was waived by his team and no one else picked him up...). He had to sit a couple games before he could suit up for the Komets... EVERYONE knew he was a 'head' case...lol

Apparently we do well with head cases and people who have been known not to be good teammates in the past(Thomas)(Haun).

Sorry JR1, I don't really know where you are getting all these "head case comments regarding players. The only one on your list that was documented was Aquino. I think you should probably not attack player(s) character without first hand knowledge IMO....
