Square Deal

The Indianapolis Star makes a good point. If the plan to save horse racing in Indiana goes through, we won't just have "slot machines at the tracks":

It would allow at least 1,500 slot machines at horse tracks in Anderson and Shelbyville. Governor, if you let this bill become law, Indiana's first two land-based casinos will open on your watch. Is that the legacy you want to leave this state?

Maybe those of us who worry about the state's addiction to gambling should just give up and admit its growth can't be stopped. Now that the precedent will be set (the propulsion systems will be taken off the riverboat casinos, making them, in effect, land-based as well), we could even lobby for our own casino downtown. It would draw a heck of a lot more people that a minor league baseball stadium. Everybody come to the Harrison Square Deal Casino!

what this city needs is a good 5 cent slot machine (apologies to VP thomas Marshall of Whitley county)

Then we can transform Indiana from a world leader in automotive manufacturing into a world leader in slot machine manufacturing.
