Tailing the Komets

Starenky is out

He's got the flu, which makes last night's performance even more impressive. Komets will play with five defensemen.

Starenky played a great game last night.

Even though we only have 5 d-men, it is time for Henley to step up and take on Smyth.  He has been running our guys for 2 nights now.  Hats off to Schrock for standing up but he gives away 50 lbs in that matchup.

I like the way that Arizona plays defense; they nail you every time you get in their zone.  They nail you on the power play too.  They are always pressuring the puck.  Hard to believe that they have the record they do.  They look like a better team than that against us.

Another note, Nick has not played sharp the last two games. Getting beat alot on the glove side high.

Giving up 9 goals thus far in two nights it is hard to believe they K's won last night..  Agreed about Henley...Bouch just got pulled...Bob said it correctly AZ is all over the K's tonight hitting, skating, and scoring.. I still think this club, although winning at times, is feeling a little bit of the mid-season blahs because there is too many mental mistakes at both ends of the ice..

Anybody remember some idiot writing this week about how good the penalty kill has been? I think all four power-play goals this weekend have been on rebounds where the defensemen didn't or couldn't clear it. Last two AZ goals have been brutal. First was a 4-on-2 with no forwards within 20 feet of getting back, and the power-play goal was a rebound with the defender standing right next to the guy and not even touching him.

15 power plays against through five periods ain't helping, either. Some really dumb plays. Artie's penalty was a total waste and that made it 4-1. They've got to play smarter than that. As for the hit on Mele, I thought he had his head down and it was a semi-clean hit, but it was bang, bang. What did everybody else think? I  noticed they didn't show a replay of the hit itself.

this is a big game considering Evansville and Allen both lost.

Physical domination by AZ.  Their D-men crushing our forwards and their small forwards crushing our D-men.  Just wearing us down.

I think the word is out in the league on how to beat us; just pound on us physically and we fold.

Our PP is non-existant and we just let them stand in front of our net.

I said it right after the all star break; there is something wrong internally with this team.  We have size but don't use it at all.  Our defense won't hit anybody.

Not trying to be too negative, just not much positive when we consistantly lose to the bottom teams in the league.

Sad thing is that Sims told the other teams in the league that we will not respond to any cheap shots to our skill guys when he said the the K's will let the referees police those type of plays.  LOL....I still can't believe that was said.  Never heard a coach in any sport ever say anything like that.   I think it is evident that the other teams got that message loud and clear.

LOL.....now we fight in the last minute.  Henley fights a guy that didn't even take his gloves off.  Where was this the last 119 minutes?

Bob said it correctly again about Henley he waited to late to take care of some stuff and then AZ puts outs it tough guys who go on to jump Milam and Mele.  I am a huge Henley fan but he has got to start taking care of guys who take runs, slashing, face-wash, etc.  Henley should have taken on Smyth earlier tonight but didn't allowing Schrock to take a beat down.  Festa gets ran over and Henley does nothing.  Then late in the game Henley's frustration takes over and he basically pounds on a guy and gets thrown out with 42.7 seconds left.  That is when Bob kind of "calls" Henley out on the broadcast.  They allowed 11 goals over 2 nights far from stellar performances and tonight they really looked like they didn't want to be there and it showed the got dominated on both ends of the ice.  Perhaps the flu bug is hitting them all because they sure looked sick tonight

I was at the game...I can take the loss with the best of them however, having the ref call such a lopsided game was frustrating. I don't like when a ref is part of the outcome of the game. It's over and done with...learn and move on and lets hope we dont get this ref again. It was awesome to see so many Komet fans there. Go Komets!!

Hilarious. It's all Henley's fault. Ridiculous. Remember what happens when Komets drop the gloves or play physical? Ask Starenky. You sit. You can bang on Henley all over the internet, but this team is coached to play the way it does. It's been this way for years. MacMillan took matters into his own hands and wasn't asked back. Sure, its easy to call out the biggest guy on the team for not fighting but he isn't the reason the Komets lost. Arizona scored 6 goals. Bad goaltending, playing with 5 defensemen and not scoring goals are reasons for the loss.

Where's the "sniper" Jesse Bennefield?

Milam is a team worst in +/-

Outside of Smith, Chaumont, Auger, Rizk, B. Molle, and Henley.... I don't know that anyone on this team is playing up to their potential.

Ragging on Henley for not fighting gets old. He's playing better defense than he ever has in Fort Wayne, and is valuable on the ice. Ask Sims why Starenky, Thorne, Schrock and Molle aren't fighting. It isn't a "Henley Problem" its a problem that starts at the top.

JM, I agree 100%.  Sims sent an open invitation to the league to beat on us and cheap shot us when he said that we would not "police" ourselves; and now we are paying for being a soft team.  If I were coaching against the K's, I would do exactly what Arizona did to us.  Henley finally got frustrated enough to do something about it.  Too little too late though.  That message should have been sent early in game 1.  Instead we let them walk all over us for 119 minutes.

The sad thing is that we have guys like Henley and Starenky that can take care of business and play a regular shift.  We should be the ones taking it physically to other teams.  If we aren't going to let these guys play like they can, then trade them to another team or put them on waivers.

I have said for 2 years that a change has been needed behind the bench.  We have the talent.  We just need someone who can put it together and let this team play to it's strengths.
