Still more on Ruid, etc....

From David Franke:

``We raised our offer some, but the main thing I think is that he started thinking if he really wanted to go to Europe. For one thing, he has a sister who is going to have a baby, and he wants to go home over Christmas and see her and the baby. Another thing is I don't know how many more years he's going to play, but he wanted to play for Pat again. Those are the main reasons.''

Regarding keeping eight veterans and the thought that Kelly Miller might be on the bubble:

``I don't think that at all. We'll find room for eight veterans. Kelly Miller does a lot for this club and we'll just take it to training camp and see what happens. I don't have a problem starting the season with eight veterans, and I don't think this spells the end of Kelly Miller at all. There are certain things he does, playing aggressively, good speed, good in the shootout, that we'll need. We'll just go with eight veterans  for a while and let it sort itself out.''

Are they done looking for players?

``I think we're done right now, but that doesn't mean  that we couldn't start campa nd get somebody in here. We have 29 players now, but as it always does, once training camp starts, people start getting cut in other leagues. We'll keep our eyes open.''

When do they expect to see the defenseman from Hershey? Toward the end of training camp or in the first week of the season.

Wow I think Jim has a bit of a man crush on me. I am not all too sure how I feel about that. Thankfully this is a hockey board for mature adults and not a troll room.
Chuckitt I willingly and respectfully bow to your superiority and pray that you will lead this blog into the next state of reality. :-)
Goodnight all.

Shivering in fear Scoops. That would be pretty awesome though. You'll have to wait for the night that Hit is sitting next to me when he's on special assignment.

Actually, the liability thing is the issue since 9/11. It's a public building, a war memorial at that, and they don't want to take any chances. Just the way it is.

I'll try to get extensive reports up after each practice.

Noted Hobo.

Here is a few factors or things I see.

One....the accuracy sometimes takes a dive trying to hit something specific in that area. But I do make an effort.

Two....not many people back there actually act like they want anything. You get a few on each end who actually stand, cheer, yell, wave, make targets, or whatever. Some of this is our fault.

Three....we are supposed to start off with anywhere from 20-30 of these each per game. Now...since they sit out open they can and do get taken by anyone who strolls through the lockerroom before we get down there. Sometimes we are left with next to nothing. Since 80% of the people do not sit behind the nets and we do not have alot to work with.... the percentages are not always in your favor.

Four....my opinion of this is its mainly for the kids. That is who I try to pick out when throwing them. Often times its adults who get all bent out of shape about not getting something. Please note...early on my aim might be a tad off so if you are sitting next to a gaggle of kids or next a hottie....your odds increase. LOL

I know there have been times where the ends got totally ignored. I hope we learned from our rookie mistakes last year. I'll be wearing #19 (for my favorite player who retired this year....Steve Yzerman) this season. Call me out if I ignore you guys.

Please ignore me. I hate the whole gimmick.

Greg
Sat, 09/30/2006 - 7:56am

1) thinks the gimmick is great so keep it up scoops.

2) I don't think you know it all Tony, I mean how can't you like Peter Ing the former Leaf ;-)

3) I think practices should be closed as well. If I spent all my time at practices then i couldn't go to the games where the real entertainment is.

So much for Blake's sleeper pick of the dispersal draft.

Matt Elich to play in Slovakia this coming season.

Hey Blake, What do you know about a couple of Ft. Wayne guys running a single A hockey team in Findlay?

Blake
Sat, 09/30/2006 - 9:00am

Nothing Greg.
Sounds to me like JM is issuing a challenge to Scoops, and amen that this should be for the kids.

Tony, does Ashley know about Jim? LOL.

JungleMonkey

No challenge. I'm just not crazy about the "Poop Guys"... I'm sure scoops is a good guy, I just don't like the nonsense.. It probably has more to do with the MC shouting SCCCCOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPSSsssssssssss. I really hate that.

Sniper

JM must sit behind the net! LOL

I am sorry to hear that the chant of "Scoops" annoys you JM, but being one of the Scoops guys, from what I can tell you are in the vast minority. I haven't really heard anyone else complain about that, most of the complaints we get are "you didn't throw to me!" The sad thing is most of those complaints are from adults and not because their kids didn't get one, but because they didn't. We throw about 100 balls per night, when the crowd average is 7000 its kind of hard to get one to everyone.

JM, when we're out there, just head to the consession stand or the bar. Sorry to annoy you.

I, too, find the SCOOOOOOOOOOOOPPPPPPPPPPSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
to be annoying as all get out.

I, too, complained about it earlier this year and was roundly criticized. Which really bothered me.

I could (ALMOST) tolerate that scoops crap if we could just lsoe the turkey bowling, musical chairs and those STUPID tricycle races. Show me ONE person who buys a ticket specifically to see that ..... and I'll show YOU and idiot.

She handed me twenty for a two-fifty fare and said, "Harry, keep the change."

yes, we get the idea, chuckitt you are a perv.

JungleMonkey
Sat, 09/30/2006 - 6:59pm

Yes, I am the only one annoyed by screaming kids running all over hell in persuit of a bean bag worth a dollar scoop of ice cream. Just an old stick in the mud.

I would rather see mascot dodgeball. As I said before I have no personal beef with the scoop guys, I'm just annoyed by the gimmick. That's the last shot I have at being diplomatic, its not really part of my nature.

Anyone have a favorite mascot other than Icy? I am partial to Morton the Penguin.

JungleMonkey

And while we are on a diplomatic kick, I have always enjoyed the posts that Skate has shared, but the Yankees suck! Go Tigers, A's, Twins, anyone but the Yankees!

Skate--come on, that's a little overboard. Of course no one pays money to see the intermission gimmicks or games. It's just a part of sports trying to make things fun for the family.

Me -- we try our best to get scoops to as many people as we can. And yes, getting a ball accurately to someone sitting behind the net is difficult. And yes, as scoops said in an earlier post, we don't always cover the ends very well. We will try better. We do not intentionally not throw to certain areas.

Not everyone likes the same things, and that's a good thing. Nothing would ever get better if everyone did.
