Tailing the Komets

Strange night so far

Komets lead 2-1 after the first period, and this is one of those games that just has a strange feel to it. Very physical and the ref has missed some calls so players are starting to take some liberties. Get the feeling one more hit on a goaltender from

Haun was letting a lot of rebounds go late in the 2nd.

Goal judge Dan Scheibel got the call right on Leo's non-goal.

Did you guys see Schrock do the punching bag followed by a right cross on his way to the penalty box? Classic. Somehow they've got to get the chant started, too.

Why did the ref stop play around 11:45 in the 3rd? He never signalled or gave any explanation. What a crew!

My wife said it was in and that's good enough for me!

Woo Hoo no negative Nellies for another week.

Wait, wait, I think we should move to the NHL cause I went to an NHL game this week and I should know!

Huge W for the K's!! Earlier in the year they would have found a way to loose that one, but tonight they found a way to win!!..While Bert may have not faired all to well in that fight with Goulet, at least he stood up!! I give him a lot of credit and I have noticed his play of late has been a little chippy which is good.

Brawl in bloomy vs flint game

Looks like the Bloomington/Flint game had some fun....a 14 player brawl to start the 3rd

Scratch that...12 players, Bloomingtons equipment manager and Flints trainer involed

What was Bertram thinking dropping the mitts with 0:00 left on the clock with Goulet? No need to take that beating. What did it prove? Levesque needed his face beat in, Bert skated away.. Then he goes out and bites off more than he can chew with Goulet?

If anyone finds a video of the Bloomington - Fint brawl pleast post the URL. It will be interesting to see how many suspensions come out of that confrontation.

I have to agree with the other folks that the ref at tonight's game was very poor. He was lucky that things didn't totally get away from him. At one point we definitely could of had a multi-player brawl. I've never see the equipment manager and trainer get involved like at Bloomington. Must be something for the league record books.

F Water, I was wondering that myself...

Also could they please start to teach the fans somethings about the game rather than have the flex cam or kiss cam? How many times does someone need to say a hand pass in your zone is LEGAL!!! 6,000 "hockey fans" that don't know the rules but can point out everything the ref misses.

How can you sit there and say that Bert is a joke or that he should not have fought....?? He has been solid and quiet this season. Goulet is nothing but a dancer and never even threw a punch..or a good one anyway...he holds, dances and hugs and never really fights! Everyone has been ragging on Bert lately....seriously...The Komets are winning...Why can you be happy with that! All you arm chair coaches need to sit and watch a game sometime instead of ridiculing every player on this team. Oh and by the way GO Komets!

Thanks Hoss for pointing that out....I agree! Half the crowd has not idea what the rules are..! URGH!!

Goulet is hands down the best fighter in the league. What did Bertram accomplish by fighting when the game was over?

Janice
Sun, 01/17/2010 - 9:41pm

Goulet might be the tallest fighter in the league but not even close to the best! We have not idea what went on for Bert to fight him at the end of the game but I am sure there was a reason...

You go Janice. Way to tell um. I agree we don't know what was going on. Bert played solid and did the Komets so the nellies need something to complain about since we won I guess. They just can't be happy.

Blake Sebring
Sun, 01/17/2010 - 10:23pm

Sorry Janice, I think Goulet is the best, and I give anybody credit for standing in with him. He has such a size advantage over everyone and he's so dang strong! You can't get free of him to unload and he can just wait forever until you get tired.

Guess who now leads the team and I think all IHL defensemen in plus-minus? Yep, Bertram. How many shots did he block tonight? You guys have no idea how respected he is in the locker room. I saw maybe eight guys walk up to him as he was sitting in his stall and tap him on the shoulder or say something to him. Those guys would do anything for him because he's done it for them. Three power-play goals against in the last 31 tries, who are the first two defensemen out on the PK? Bertram and Danko, the first defensemen most nellies seem to want to rag on.

Leo"s shot was 90% over the line but the right call was made, my seat was at the perfect angle to witness it.

It appears that woodard is sitting and when woods comes back someone else will have to go, that will be one tough decision, who do you all think will go. it will most likely be a rookie.

Nobody said Bertram played poor defense. I just question why your "best defenseman and team leader in +/-" would fight the best fighter in the league at the end of the game. Skate away, he's done it several times before. The fight accomplished nothing.

I was pretty negative prior to the past few weeks. I'm not sure what a "Nellie" is other than a name for a girl on the old Little House on the Prairie show, so maybe that was a saying all the old folks liked to use back in the day and it's coming back? I don't know. Regardless, I have to admit that this team does have the talent.

While I will admit I was wrong when I was calling for a change in some of the personnel, I won't say I was wrong in my original diagnosis of the problem: heart. These guys have started playing with heart and actually caring about what's going on on the ice. I'm not seeing our guys getting slammed by the opposition, then skating off the ice with their heads down. For the past several games, when one of our guys gets hit, there are at least two of his teammates skating over to help sort it out. This team has become fun to watch again and I think the complacency is subsiding. Maybe they just needed to lose a few before they got motivated to play hard and win. Hey, it worked for the Colts. GO KOMETS!!!!!!!

Hey Hoss, give people a break. The IHL rule book is over 250 pages. It's hard to know all of the rules by on reading it once, even two or three times.

Blake Sebring
Sun, 01/17/2010 - 10:45pm

Great point, FW, that's definitely part of it.

Maybe he was trying to prove something to the fans, JM? Maybe he didn't want Mac to get in a situation where he might get in trouble with the league again, fighting when there might be no time left on the clock? That was the first thing I thought of. Seriously, who knew WHAT IN THE WORLD this ref was going to call? No one knew all night.

Blake Sebring
Sun, 01/17/2010 - 10:46pm

Hoss, the other one I hate is when fans yell for too many men when the other team isn't touching the puck. That drives me nuts.

So who"s going to get get cut?

MrsCrouss

Oh yeah, I hate the "Too Many Men" chant that I hear every single game...numerous times a game. I swear last year we sat next to a guy who shouted it everytime the other team had a line change.
