Have the Frankes reacted?
I think I saw them honking the horn and giving the "up your" signal in the direction of the league office...
:)
Who cares. It was a fun brawl, the fans enjoyed it, and it was a good show of team unity for the Komets. But what matters now is Fort Wayne has Jon "Nasty" Mirasty. One of the toughest in all of hockey....and one of the most entertaining. Period.
For the future, no one on this team will be getting pushed around.
Honestly, the only place we have heard that Mirasty has been assigned to Ft Wayne is thru the article from syracuse.com... I keep looking at the AHL wire for anything showing that Anahiem or Syracuse have officially assigned him here; but there has been nothing. No official word anywhere that he is coming. I would think that if was actually on a plane heading this way this weekend, that we would have seen something by now. Everytime Springfield or Columbus sent someone down to us, I saw it first on the AHL's transaction wire...
I would like to see something official, I guess it what I am trying to say...
Does any of this really surprise any one? I mean, really?
Blake, after listening to the game on the internet and subsequently watching different posted videos [including those with commentary by the Wichita broadcasters] I can say that as a former "old" IHL on ice official that has been on the receiving end of such "abuse" the 3 games suspension is correct.
Well Larry the PA Guy announced it to be official.
But you guys all said you don't listen to him, so nevermind...
HA HA HA.
JM, Majers did have his stick with him, he was being put back in for the upcoming face up. If you look at Otto's video, when the linesman is pushing him back towards the bench you'll see his stick on the ice with other equipment. The stick is visible at the 23:15 mark of the video.
Aha!......so it was the goalie Magers, in the coliseum, with the hockey stick.... I win!
Unless someone on the bench was smart enough to through it out there during all the commotion in which case I think we're back to a forward, in the dressing room, with a water bottle.
Could it have possibly been a K=Wing, in the locker-room, with a blowtorch?
9:24 seconds to go in video jm.....his stick on the ice
Me78, as soon as Magers touched the ice he threw his stick down. He was on the ice with stick in hand for a total of 2 seconds..if that. Marty jumped on the ice (with his back facing his net) and immediately started shaking his gear off. He came off the bench so he could go after Bouch
He never proceeded towards his own net. He never looked at his coach. He was a madman on a rampage because Nick showed him up. He left the bench for the sole purpose of fighting Boucher. The stick wasn't in his hand for 2 strides away from the bench.
I sit right next to the opposing team's bench. Magers looked at his coach, looked at Bouch, turned and ran off the bench, threw off his helmet and headed directly for Bouch. He had no intentions of going back into his net! Not for one second!
The big miss here is Magers only getting 3 games. He left the bench and took down an official. 7 games minimum. I agree with other posts, that's nothing big and sets a precident for future abuse of officials. Do the officials have a union where they can petition the league on this one?
Goulet probably should have gotten at least 4 games, he just would not stop the madness.
I guess the Wichita team fine would be for the Coach.
I also diagree that leagues are too fine and suspension happy. If you don't make the penalties hurt the player, there would be nothing in their mind to stop them from going over the edge.
Well I apologize for telling you what I saw...
Well the CHL did something! Thats more than i thought they would do. Oh well lets move on i guess.
Pete Cichy could have been hurt!!!
Seems like the review missed the largest point of all -- the Wichita coach who sent in his goons with only 2.3 seconds to play. Another point -- no coach would send his goalie back in with 2.3 seconds to play and with the faceoff in our end and with 6 Wichita players already on the ice. As far as I am concerned, the entire brawl was orchestrated by the Wichita coach. I am hoping the Wichita team fine was based on that.
I should've had a real good look at it, but I didn't... :( Was too busy watching the replay of the save on the penalty shot on the scoreboard. Then I heard my boyfriend yell "What's that guy doing?" and I looked back down just in time to see Magers tackle Cichy. That's what I get for paying attention to the scoreboard...
I do find it kind of ironic that the some people who are hurting themselves with joy over Mirasty coming in are some of the same ones screaming because these suspensions were too light.
The fines and suspensions are not up to what the crimes Magers dumping of linesmen twice that I saw. The goonery that Witcita dished out with less than 3 seconds on the clock. Referee should of called the game complete at that point. I think the old IHL that would've happened. Lets hope that Mr.Jon Mirasty will protect and serve to help our skilled players.
Sooo.....anyone think Saturday's game would have ended like it did IF Mr. Nasty was in uniform?
Yep, I don't think the Thunder cared one way or the other about the consequences.
Dave, according to this rule (that I will copy) I think they got the suspension correct and added a lil for good measure...
40.4 Automatic Suspension - Category III - Any player who, by his actions, physically demeans an official or physically threatens an official by (but not limited to) throwing a stick or any other piece of equipment or object at or in the general direction of an official, shooting the puck at or in the general direction of an official, spitting at or in the general direction of an official, or who deliberately applies physical force to an official solely for the purpose of getting free of such an official during or immediately following an altercation shall be suspended for not less than two (2) games.
Of course, I think we are lucky that Schrock got nothing out of this because what he did directly fits under this rule, also...
Cichy slipped and Magers fell on top. Shrock was facing Richards when he got his tooth knocked out :)
Cichy slipped because Magers pulled him down. See the 0:26 mark here...

Cichy is a tough cat.. Look at the near death situation he was exposed to because of MacMillan last year. Magers ripping him down to the ice was nothing compared to tripping over MacMillan's skate.
Tripped...thrown with a hip toss...same difference
