Tailing the Komets

Suspension reaction

I saw Hodgman slash Bedard and thought at the time it might be good for two games. Asked about it today, Hodgman said it was just, ``Frustration,'' and there was nothing previous that led to the slash.

David Hukalo moves up with Colin Chaulk and Matt Syroczynski and Mitch Woods goes with Justin Chwedoruk and Lincoln Kaleigh Schrock. Keith Rodger will also play as Brad MacMillan had his nose fixed this morning and will likely miss the next two games.

Hopefully his temper tantrum relieved that frustration....

Can things get much worse?

As I watched this game, I saw three Port Huron sticks to the heads of the Komets, and not even a penalty was called. I saw a violent elbow that lifted Leo Thomas off the ice, when he wasnt near the puck, and not a penalty was called, and to add insult, as he flew back and went down, his stick flew up, and they gave him a high sticking. It was the lack of this referee calling anything against Port Huron in this game that left not only the Komet players pissed off and frustrated, but all the fans as well. I know my whole section was really ticked off, and wondering if the game hadnt been fixed, because it was that bad.

You know what is interesting that Jones suspends Hodgy for two games but Mario Laroque got nothing for an elbow he threw in there game against Dayton. If that is not worth 2 games than what is? I saw video of that hit and it was really bad, clear elbow to the head

You'd think the hand motion vs. Flint would have relieved some frustration.

Let's hope Woods can learn from this and control himself with increased ice time.

Sgriffith:

I wondered the same thing about the Mario Larocque elbow. Why didn't the "league" come down on Larocque for an elbow that knocked the guy out.

Mark-I have my own theory about it being fixed. Does everyone remember the Rockford series/when Rockford won the last year in the UHL. Same things are happening now, lopsided calls/no calls/make-up calls/scoreboard calls. Dont get me wrong, I think we need to stay out of the box, but if you are going to call something on one team, how about we call the same thing on the other team.

Let's get serious here. For a fix to work in sports, so many things have to happen just the right way that they are virtually impossible, and nobody is going to try to fix minor league games. Calling a fix is just an easy excuse so let's end that balderdash right here. No more.

Gee blake, you're the one that said MacMillan had his nose fixed.

Blake Sebring

I don't remember saying Mac had his nose fixed. I thought I said Rodgy had his fixed. Could be. They are all running together. Get it? Noses running together? Thank you, thank you very much!

Blake, you need to read your own articles. It's right there in the last sentence. It's not (SNOT, get it?) that important.

Blake stay away from writing comedy. Just sports and novels your good at those. I did hear Pateman chewing out Welker after the game but really didn't pay any attention as it just is none of my business at that time. He missed a very big penalty on P.C. for leaving the bench when he called the penalty on Chaulk. Yes, folks that is a penalty when he returns to the bench.

Will he be missed? yes. Is the season over without him? I dont think so. If we play the defensive game that helped us win all season and stay out of the box, we should be able to score one or two a game against Larry. The real challenge is staying focused and not letting them into our heads where we are retaliating on the little stuff. Let Hansen, Flache, Vernasty and the rest get their cheap shots in, if we stay calm our defense is better any day than their offense.

Fixed as in a surgical procedure requiring recovery time.

As one of the guys said this morning, ``It's just playoff hockey.'' The refs call things differently than during the regular season. They are pretty much only going to call things on the puck as the direct result of scoring chances or turnovers. Part of the surviving the playoffs is enduring all the crap away from the puck. It's just playoff hockey, which is also part of the reason everyone loves the playoffs more than the regular season. It's part of the game.

So....Why would Mac choose to get his nose fixed now in the middle of a playoff series? Wouldn't it be a good idea to put it off until the end of the series? If you wait until it's over, you're either done for the year anyways or you miss the start of the next series which is less important than the end of a series...no?

...Interesting timing

Penalties called in Sunday's game: Fort Wayne - 10, Port Huron - 9. Number of 10-minute misconduct penalties called: Fort Wayne - 1, Port Huron - 1. From where I sit, that looks pretty darn even.

Sure there were calls missed, but I'm not sure you can go as far as to suggest that a fix is in. The ChickenHawks have been all over Hodgman and Chewy from the opening whistle of Game 1. Penalties probably should've been called on PH and they both complained to the refs to no avail. Now, both of them have taken stupid retaliation penalties/suspensions. Not the best way to win a playoff series, IMO.

Why was this suspension any less than what Haun got?
Hitting a guy from behind with your stick is about as cowardly an act on the ice as you can get.

I hope the Komets use this suspension to rally together and take control of the series. Lets not forget that Boucher played great on PH on Saturday, stopping multiple point blank shots, and was left hanging out to dry on a breakaway.

I see the K's coming home to (hopefully) a crazy croud tied 2-2 in the ONLY weekend game the Komets may see in these playoffs. I hope the Komet fans realize this and we can get 7K strong to get into LAAARRRYYYY's head.

FBI: NBA REF DONAGHY 'FIXED' GAMES

No way the fix is in here!!!!!!!!! To bad Hodgy will miss two games as it sure does not help the Komets now. They just have to suck it up and play hard up there Wed. When something happens guys just turn and skate the heck away from it!!! We are playing for our Cup lives here and retaliation is just NOT in the game plan! We have to win there Wed. nite period! Sure we came back from a 3-1 deficit two years ago but how many times in the history of the playoffs does that happen???? Not very often. Making a habit of winning a series after being down 3-1 twice in 3 years?? About as good as paying off the national debt in a year I would say. Blake I am your straight man now correct?? LOL

JR
Tue, 04/27/2010 - 5:04pm

Oh the irony... After listening to the rest of the IHL fanbase talk of how the fix was in for the K's to win it all the past two years, I am now hearing it from fellow K's fans after the K's go down 2 games to 1 in thier semifianl series......

LOL, LOL, LOL, LOL, golf clap........

The cheapshots off the puck do seem to happen every year and I guess that's part of the playoffs. Anyone remember Zehr sliding around out there in his cage, just waiting behind with a Komet forward in his zone for the puck to go the other way so he could take some good swings on him with his stick as soon as the refs began to skate to the other end? That was almost a work of art.

A spear like Haun had is a lot different then a slash at the ankles.

Anyone check who is reffing tomorrow night. May be good for the aggressive play of the Komets. Yep, you guessed it LANGDON. I think this is a good thing for the Ks. A lot better then Welker.

Anyone coming up for Wednesday's game? We're coming down for Friday's. Look forward to a couple of good games. It looks like things are getting interesting.

Zach Anderson
Tue, 04/27/2010 - 6:56pm

So by the same logic that if you slash during the game it isnt a suspension, but after the game is fine....I guess that if you punch a coworker, as long as you don't do it outside of work you wont get fired.

Dschebig
Tue, 04/27/2010 - 7:23pm

Zach-I know I am wasting my typing but please compare apples to apples and oranges to oranges. If the slash would have happened during the game it would have been a gross misconduct with intent to injure and a game misconduct and he still would end up suspended. PLease think about what you said. Hockey is a totally different work environment.

Zach, do you mean coworker or a worker from a competing company? :-)

MR SNUFFLUPUGUS
Tue, 04/27/2010 - 7:43pm

I don't believe what Haun did was any worse. A cowardly slash is a cowardly slash and anyone who has ever laced up skates will tell you just how important the ankles are and even with the best of skates they are vulnerable to injury. You hurt your ankles, you are done playing.
