Tailing the Komets

Talked to Al

He said the officials said MacMillan took Matthew Spiller's helmet off and then used it to hit Spiller in the head. He said he did not have any comment on the call.

Here's what he did say:

``We came up a little bit short again, but it was a good effort in the third. It was a very poor effort on our behalf overall. We gave pucks away all over the place. They must have had five or six breakaways. If it wasn't for for Bouch it would have been 10-2.''

Asked who played well, Sims said, ``Boucher, and the rest of the team wasn't very good. We just took bad penalties again. We're letting the ref come in and decide games because we're undisciplined, especially in the the third with a five-minute major.''

That major was MacMillan's match penalty.

On the B2 feed of this incident, Mac didn't grab the guys helmet and start bashing him with it. Honestly I didn't even see anything that even look like he hit the guy in the head with his helmet, IMO it was a "lame" call by the Ref. If Brad Jones gives Mac 3 games for that I would question it. I would think it would not warrant a suspension. Mac had trouble reaching that high anyways because that guy was 6'6 again.

Dschebig, you are entitled to your opinion BUT Austin is not what you would consider a casual fan. He went to all but a handful of home games last year and has made road trips with his brother to every venue in the league. His parents and grandparents were season ticket holders for years. The kid bleeds orange and black and things that have happened this year upset him. He makes a good point and I as well as others are going to follow his lead and not attend any further home games until the team gets Mac the help he needs to patrol the ice. Right now the team is soft and not much fun to watch. Other than Mac (and Stayzer when not injured) no one seems to care what happens to their teammates on the ice.

Woods would have never done anything like this!

Blake - If I read what you wrote above correctly, I agree with you. I obviously haven't seen the incident, but in the heat of a fight I think it'd be pretty tough to snag a helmet and hit someone with it. The idea of the strap getting caught up while your punching sounds a lot more plausible to me. If I saw the fight I may think differently though. Maybe I'm just a Komets fan trying to make excuses, I don't know. MacMillan just has never seemed like the type of player to me who has ever looked for any help/props when going up against someone else. Just seems to like to go old school fist-to-fist.

Lookout Mac! Here it comes. One reporter and your coach have hung you out to dry. Now all we need is the other reporter, your teammates, and Mr. Commissioner to follow.

OK, how have I hung him out to dry?

Kevin--I may have been a little harsh. My choice of words could have been better. (I do that a lot) I am sorry he feels the way he does. That was all I was trying to say. For me even bad hockey is better than no hockey. No one gets more frustrated when they don't play well than me.

Blake I have a question don't know if you can give a response or not, but here it goes. I know fans are calling for the K's to bring in a "heavy weight" to help Mac. My question is why Bertram doesn't fill-in in that role to some extent. I know he use to mix it up frequently but over the last couple of years has done it much. Is there a reason or not he doesn't do it as much, is it the result of his job with the FD. Just a question, not trying to "call" Bertram out because his play as a d-man is steady.

I don't have an answer for you Shane. I'll try to take one for the team (gulp) and ask Bert next time I see him.

Bertram has always had alot of injury problems involving his hands/wrists... Not saying that this is why he's not; but it could be a contributing factor...

Thanks Blake, I just wanted to "Hang you out to Dry" since you are so good at that...(HA-HA). I am sure there are reasons why and very legit reasons. In 2007 he had 271 PIM's last year 131, at one point he was leading the IHL in fighting majors in 07. He may have bad hands/wrist and that is a very legit reason. Or he might give the Ryan Jorde quote, "I always ask but nobody wants to". Sorry had to throw that one in there for "Hit-Somebody" because we all know how much he like Jorde...Back to X-mas shopping..

Thanks for the reminder of that waste of hockey player, the most feared player in Minor league hockey, Ryan Jorde. LOL There was the perfect example of a guy with tools that wasn't willing to open the tool box.

I heard Bertram can't fight because of his day-job. That is just what I had been told. But who knows, right?

Where did Schrocky Balboa go?

In fact, where did all the younger guns go? Klempa, Schrock, OC, DeAngelis, and Co.???

Phillips is the best young D-Man in the league. Maybe the best period. No joke.
