Tailing the Komets

Talked to Dennis Hextall

I talked to him to preview the upcoming IHL meetings next week asked him about Muskegon.

``To my knowledge, and I can't verify this, there is a USHL team coming in and the Lumberjacks are also staying. I have not talked to the owners in the last couple of days. I don't have a confirmed answer to give you as I haven't heard from the ownership, but that's what I'm hearing on the street. To my knowledge the Muskegon team has done pretty well this year at the gate, and I think this is a very viable league to stay in.''

There will be more of our discussion in Wednesday's paper.

I hear you, to some degree Burpee.

Would you support Junior hockey (USHL) at the Coliseum?

I would think that theis town would only support the level we are at or better. AHL should be affordable if you weigh in the fact that the Komets have been supporting the rest of the teams in league with the money we pay to watch the Komets.

Hextall is blowing smoke up our rumps. I guess that is his job. Muskegon has been recruiting USHL talent for next years new team, they have even contacted a local High School player there to play for their team next season. Hextall pretty much, in his comments, conceded the fact that Muskegon is gone. No IHL team next season.

I agree, we will survive. But isn't time the IHL project be put to rest? It is not working. The teams left are not exactly successful outside of FW that is financing the whole thing for the most part.

Back to the foo foo drinks, blue pills, farting into the wind, 2 nutted fruitcakes, hitting on redheads, and whatever else you folks would rather talk about.

I guess Muskegon jumping ship like Kalamazoo did is of no interest to hockey fans, IHL hockey fans in this town. Oh well.

Jungle Monkey has got his tie out and brushed off, he has slicked his hair back, and we are going to roll with bringing hockey to the Waynedale area.....we will save the IHL. since it doesnt matter if we have any money, any fans, or an appropriate arena to play in.....just as long as the Komets have teams to play against and Icy is still there to do, well not much at all anymore to entertain us. That is the point of the IHL I guess. Keep the 8,500 fans in Fort Wayne happy. Bring on the Washington......errrrr......Waynedale Generals. LMAO

Frozen, I agree with you.....you are right on.....His story is different. It is the run-around. Muskegon is out. The IHL is toast. Only a miracle saves this league. Or it is a league that is totally financed by Komet money so that the Komets have teams to play against. sounds crazy, but isn't that what it is, really?

So, I need to raise my hand next time just to make sure my question pertains to something you deem of importance, Alan? I'm just so afraid I'll say something that you won't approve of. We can't have that, now can we?

As for Hextall's comments, I don't see how they are that different. He didn't know anything, and he still doesn't know anything.

And while we're at it, I think you should explain why you put the word SUIT in quotation marks.

Mightbite: If the fight is going to use statistics, hockey knowledge, insight, or analytical thinking I'm taking Alan. If it will be concerning cult classic quotes, fairy spells/sayings, +10 power swords, or skimpy Halloween outfits to turn on sportswriters and officials, Wendy wins. It's all about the stipulations. We basically need a tale of the tape and fight parameters before a decent fight prediction could be made. Both have strong talents, just in different areas.

Back to the real topic (sometimes anyhow), hockey.

Hit: I also think he knows a lot more than he is divulging and I'd probably agree that it is his job to TRY to make us all think things are just fine in hockey land. If we were to move up, I don't necessarily think the ticket prices increase would have to be anything phenomenal, as some have said in other posts. In checking many of the team websites, their season ticket prices are for 40 games instead of 38, and range from $550 up to $615, plus they get tons of extras, not the least of which being FREE PARKING!! I'm not saying the AHL is the answer, but the idea that it coming in would really cost us isn't really true from looking at the teams currently in it. Better hockey, not much more cost (and in some cases, cheaper tickets than what we pay now for lower hockey) doesn't sound bad on paper. Yes, we'd have to deal with call-ups and losing players, but we also might not have to worry about holding on to people who don't give full effort on the ice because they are fan favorites or have jobs in town. Perhaps I'm being more "Nellie" than usual. It's just frustrating as a fan having everything up in the air and seemingly getting the run around. It will be interesting to see what information that feed, I mean give, us following the meetings.

After reading the posts my question is for Blake. Blake - there has been talk about teams leaving the IHL, the Komets in the ECHL or the AHL. As the reporter, you get to see and hear much more than us...so what is your opinion on the future of the league and the teams currently invested in IHL?

I truely believe that the AHL is the only way to go, I have said it before and i will say it again... Fans will complain about call-ups and this and that but at least we will be watching the best minor league hockey for the price that we are paying!!!! As you can tell Komet fans have done their research so the Franke's can't blow smoke about how much the tix will go up and this and that!!!!! JMO
