.....and if the official does his job, we might see a 5 on 3. Mirasty is the only guy with the guts to stand in there and get cross-checked and hacked. (Worst case senario: he takes some of the crap, then comes unhinged and beats the snot out of someone and we're entertained.)

Besides Lardner and sometimes Schrock, nobody will stand in the crease and take the abuse. Heck, DAB is my least favorite "AA" Komet and he would stand in there...Of course he wore more safety equipment than the average hazmat team.. I'm getting away from the point.. I agree with Alan. Park Nasty in the crease and see what happens.

Guys, when Frankie was out there, the Komets had the third-best power play in the league, and that's when there was NO ONE down low. The problem isn't down low, it's out high.

The guys on the blueline aren't getting any shots off at all to create rebounds or plays in front. Check out the number of shots Guy and P.C. have been getting the last few games. They've been struggling to get any shots at all.

get two good ametuers in here, one d-man and one offensive player that could help out. Sure couldnt hurt. Be nice in case we get anymore injuries.

Look I am not trying to be negative about this. However I have come to face the facts. This years team is just not built for this leauge hopefully this is a leason learned and they will improve for next year. I just want to throw one more thing out there for all of you. If it were not for the Franke's this city would have no team so the next time all of you go and bad month them you better think about that.

JM
you say I am half full of negativity but if you read everything on here alot of people have been full of negativity. So honestly I think I am in good shape for being only half

One thing we all have to think about is this Komets teams vets have put ALOT of miles on thier wheels over the past three seasons. This is a big reason why I say let guys like Drouin and Guy sit for a couple weeks and let the younger legs battle thru this rough patch...

Confidence can also be slowly lost if your getting tired or nagging injuries are bothering you. If you arent able to do what you were doing earlier in the season, you start taking more chances to try and get the job done. Shots arent getting thru from the point, you start pinching in giving the other team more chances for odd man rushes the other way... So many ways for an athlete to lose confidence in his game.

Brandon Warner is an offensive defenseman that people have said can move the puck on the point and people have said has a great shot from the point.

I think putting the team's woes squarely on Frankie's back is misguided. Does he have 40 goals and 50 assists this season? He is good, but not that good that he is the Kog that makes or breaks this team....I think some are over-blowing this argument.

You always have to go and call out my Buddy PC don't you? You can't lay the blame just on him. Guy either, he is a senior citizen....he has rights!!!! LOL

In all seriousness......lots of problems facing this team, and not enough time IMO to fix all of them.

The players are the only ones who can pull themselves out of this funk......

Can they do it?

I have no problem with Warner taking PC's spot at the point on the PP; but calling him a defenseman is going too far. LOL. If your going to put him on the point, then you need someone who is really good defensivly because Warner REALLY likes to pinch in...

Actually, the defenseman who's shot almost always gets thru is the D-man who I cant remember if he's EVER taken a slap shot during a game, Mironivic..... Those little floaters he sends the nets way always seems to give the goalies fits because they are normally the ones that get deflected, redirected, or bounce off equipment easier... You've gotta be quick to redirect those boomers; but just in the way to redirect a floater....

I agree with that, too. Part of the situation with some of the defensemen is they are shooting them along the ice, they are getting blocked and turned the other way for odd-man rushes so it doesn't matter who or how many players are in front of the net.

Typically, the only time we get a shot off of the ice...is when it's aimed dead center in the goalie's chest.

We also dont have point men on the PP who take very many one timers... Most of thier point shots are very deliberate, giving the defenders time to get in front of the shot. Guys are too fast in this league to stop the puck in your wheel house, wind up and blast away.

I'm open to seeing a new PP unit.

Lardner, Chaulk, Schrock, Molle, Warner

What did Leo do to deserve that? Who's playing defense when one of those blueliners turns the puck over?

OK, I'm sitting here reading everyone's responses to the question of what to do with the powerplay. My suggestion was to abandon the present style and plant Mirasty in front of the net to block the opposing goaltender and try to pick up a deflection or rebound.

Some like the suggestion but I sense that many others do not. Lets present some facts to support my suggestion:

1. The powerplay is something like 3 for the last 35 chances.
2. The present style requires the perimeter men to move the puck quickly so the defenders cannot shift in time thus opening a shooting lane. I submit that the Komets skill level is poorly suited for this and the defenders have more than enough time to block those lanes. The result is either losing control of the puck or at best regaining control, starting the process all over again, and losing valuable powerplay seconds off the clock.
3. Maybe Ratchuk and Warner, but who else among defensemen have the blistering shot needed at the point? Used to be Dupuis and Drouin but that combination has long since been given up on. It's been a long time since the K's have had a truly outstanding offensive defenseman. DeAngelis is OK by this team's standards but would pale by some guys the Komets have had in the past.
4. Lets face facts. The Komets have made the playoffs and although their final position has not been determined, they really aren't playing for much now. ( Sure, I know that the final position might spare them from Colorado or Rapid City, but is that someting to really get excited about)? The point is that NOW is the time to try things, see if any improvement can be made that may help the team as they go into the playoffs.
5. Some guys don't want to play in front of the goaltender. I can understand why they don't want to get whacked and hacked by the goaltender, get in front of some hard shots, and pay the price that needs to be paid. Seems to me that Mirasty loves that style. I have a feeling he would relish that role. He wants to play, try him there.
6. What is there to lose? And if you're going to "shake up" the lines anyway, then you realize that changes need to be made.

It isn't a sin if you try something and fail. The sin is not trying at all.

I just can't believe I'm the only one who is seeing this.

They have been trying Mirasty on the power play at times. The one game in Dayton when Leo and Patrosso got kicked out he had a regular shift out there. I think he's gotten a lot more opportunities on the road because the Komets were often getting blown out than he has at home, though.
