Tailing the Komets

Thank goodness we can get back to the games

Couple of notes:

* Please remember to bring your Komets Kare Packages donations to the games this weekend.

* All-time Komets scoring leader Len Thornson suffered a mild heart attack yesterday, so mild in fact he's already home in Florida and doing very well. Please include him in your prayers.

* Saturday night is ``Kill the Komets'' night in Dayton. Wonder if that will help draw a crowd?

* There are only a few home games left if you'd like to purchase some of the books for Christmas gifts.

* Wendy, who's the interview this weekend?

* Anybody else think the Komets could/should sweep this weekend

Our own FiveMinuteMajor is up on Friday night -- the lovely Rachel Alexander. And then I'm supposed to interview Master Sgt. Steve Kingsley on Sunday. Called him today. He was all like "Yeah, yeah, yeah. I already know where to go." LOL.

Hey, saw you filling in for Tim, btw. I was glad that you were able to promote the Komet Kare Package project before it's over for this year. The Sunday show won't air until the 16th.

Lots of prayers for a "Komet Great". Do what they tell you Lenny. You have lots of friends in the Fort.

Without sounding ignorant....what is a Foo Foo drink? Is it one of those drinks they sell behind Section 205? If so, those are good....just don't drink too quickly or brain freeze occurs!

You said it Burpee.

That is actually a very smart question Bob that none of the rest of us have had the guts to ask.

Anybody else ever notice how Burgee takes the green pills like they are green M&Ms?

With two hotties like Wendy and FMM, how are we supposed to listen when we're so distracted?

Filling in for Tim -- without the snazy tie. Good thing Randy knows what he's talking about and can cover for me, though Otto keeps closing in to make us stand so close together.

Did you know Randy was old enough to be my grandfather?

BTW, had an absolute blast at HS hockey on Wednesday night. Thanks to everyone out there for pitching in to help me out on some stories. That's some fun entertainment is anyone is looking for a good family night out.

You got it bob, dump some malibu in it and the night gets much better, a Foo Foo is any girlie drink that a real man drinks and yes I put the little umbrellas in them! Why, because I don't like beer. This year you can bring your glass back to any game for $2 off your refill. They put a whole bananer in their, blend it up nice n smooth, then you sneek around the corner and dump your flask in.

So if a girl drinks a Foo Foo is it not really a Foo Foo? I don't really like beer either. I gotta go to bed, need my beauty sleep for tomorrow!

Prayers to Len Thornson, maybe the greatest Komet of all time. The league is in a lot of trouble and we are concerned who Wendy is interviewing? Lets get our priorities straight.

Alan....really. It's the Game of the Week, and she interviews a fan, mostly ones from here. You're gonna say we should stop all activities because you think the league is in trouble. Sheesh. Give that man a foo-foo drink stat!! :)

And the foo-foo drinks have no alcohol, Burgee, you gotta add your own? Crap! Well, that changes everything. I'll have to find a flask and a bigger purse.....

And Blake, I'm so offended to not be included in that category of hotties....just because I'm no longer a redhead? Man, tough crowd! LOL

Foo Foo Fii Fii Fum. I am not a Foo Foo. Burgee is a Non-Alcoholic who pops all kinds of pills. Lives in a different world and marches to a different drummer! He likes suntan lotion has a great little grandaughter. Most of all a wife he may not deserve. Other than those things he's a nice guy!

She'll be on later -- probably January. I guess she just forgot that you haven't seen her yet. You'll have to forgive her. She's a blonde now. ;) LOL. Actually, I hate blonde jokes, but that one was too easy.

Wendy, Men in Black was a clever movie. I think what I will do is just look into the flashing light and forget what you said. I'm glad you didn't take it personally. I just thought that on a day when Dayton has to announce new ownership, and we learn that Quad City has an "out" if league membership falls below seven teams, AND with the always present on-ice and off-ice struggles with the Flint Generals, the question of who you were interviewing was somewhat less important to the other problems of the day. Plus...I was real honest about coming on with you earlier in the year when I told you I would rather wait until March or so, when we know more about the league, its teams, the success or failure of the K's, and what the future may hold for the IHL. Apparently I have lost my "gentleman" status. Have a great interview and tell Tim, Randy, and Otto that I appreciate their broadcasts and the sacrifice of their personal time to do them.

Al Gore Invented the Blog, right after he invented the internet.

Was that after or before he discovered "Global Warming"?

Frozen Water
Fri, 12/04/2009 - 11:35am

This may be unpopular but I'm seeing Alan's point of view more than many of the others. The news of the league seems to take a back seat to some social interests from time to time in the blog. Before any of us have to read the "it's nothing personal" and the "everyone has a right to their own opinions or to talk about whatever they want" posts a couple people enjoy typing and re-typing, I understand that fully. I just don't get how someone who is discussing relevant hockey information and situations that will affect our team and league has people questioning why he's talking about those things. Maybe what people wear at Halloween, or drink at games, or new hair colors is more important, I don't know. I should probably just echo Blake's post: "Thank goodness we can get back to the games." Insert "you can say what you want on these blogs" posts here: :)

Frozen Water-- Could it be that everything that needed to be said has been said?

Blake Sebring
Fri, 12/04/2009 - 11:48am

Frozen, maybe it's because we've all had these discussions about, oh, 45,000 times previously and we've beaten the horse into hamburger. Some people will bitch about the league no matter what, and some just trust that it will all work out. It almost always does. Maybe it's because most of the people on this blog have more perspective and have been around a lot longer, been there, done that, etc.

Maybe it's because lots of people on here have heard the sky is falling so much and it doesn't happen that they've learned to just tune things out. Frankly, a lot of folks are bored with that.

It's minor league hockey. If someone wanted to focus on the negative all the time, there's plenty of opportunity in every league. That's minor league sports, period. There is no such thing as a perfect minor league -- or even major league -- sport today. There's no such thing as a perfect business today, either.

Burgee
Fri, 12/04/2009 - 12:22pm

Ditto what BS said.

Minor league hockey has been unstable since its inception and yes Al Gore invented it.

Blake needs to add a dead horse topic list:
minor league instability
changing leagues
suntanning

there are a bunch of topics like that we have beaten so bad the hamburger doesn't even look like hamburger and yes, Al Gore invented the hamburger.

Dschebig
Fri, 12/04/2009 - 12:32pm

Now we know why "Super Fan" is the man. I alway was of the thinking that hamburger came from beef. It is good to see Burgee's head is opening up. The pills must be working.

Swearing is allowed on the blog now? This should spice up some things! I was just under the impression that the News Sentinel had this blog to talk about what is going on in the world of the Komets and the IHL. I apologize for reading into it wrong. Yes I know I don't have to read the blogs, but there is actually good information that can by siphoned through the filler material. I didn't mean to get all the loyal subjects in a tizzy, I was just expressing an opinion that Alan wasn't too far off, something that I've read on here time and time again I was allowed to do.

Alan
Fri, 12/04/2009 - 1:04pm

Gee Blake, are your comments pointed toward me? Has Dayton changing ownership or Quad City's contractural arrangement with the IHL been discussed "45,000 times"? If you could please point out when I have "bitched" about the league or focused on the "negative" I would appreciate it. My "perspective" on the IHL has grown from watching the league in the 60's, 70's and 80's. Then watching it morph into "AAA" hockey in the 90's and then back to "AA" hockey. I thought I had always been just the opposite; supporting the IHL with my time, money, and comments. I am not trying to "bore" anyone with my posts. I just try to convey, to the best of my ability, my thoughts on the important "talking points", (whatever they are at the time). I am not a journalist or a writer. Sometimes my thoughts, opinions, or ideas, do not come across as crisp as I would like. While that may be a personal failing, one thing that will never fail is my support for the Fort Wayne Komets in particular, and the IHL in general.

one thing to remember frozen water, we bloggers are a part of the komet world and the majority of us have learned when someone is just crying wolf or is actually concerned about something in komet nation. we have heard the " we are in the wrong league" "the ihl isnt double a " the league will fold" all of this over and over to the point it is now laughable. most of us are the glass is half full types so when we hear dayton is in trouble but the league says its got it under control, we beleive it or we sit back and wait and give them a chance but there are a few on here that cant wait to pounce on any little crumb and complain and call names and ect ect. i cant wait for the posts that will now show up and tear apart the new gem owners and they dont even know the people!! so if sometimes the blog stays a little, its just us bloggers trying to get to know one another cause in the most part we all have the same goal and thats successful hockey in fort wayne! oops back to bed!
