Tailing the Komets

Thanks again

To Mark, Jennifer, Tom, Teresa and David for allowing me to use your quotes with today's rivalry story. If you haven't seen them yet, it's going up on the web as I, uh, type I guess.

The reason that story started was because I walked around the locker room and asked the players who they felt was their favorite rival. There was no consensus at all. A lot of guys had two or three (blasphemy!), which is why I asked the fans in a post a few weeks ago.

Thanks again.

Nice article Blake, hopefully the UHL will read that a help us capture a rivial for seasons to come. It is amazing that the UHL has done this to the K's with our rich tradition and fan support. Franke be raising holy hell with the UHL brass to change this.

rivalries are dead. to have a hated rival, every player must be ready to drop the gloves and do what needs to be done to come out on top. this will never happen in todays game. no checking, no fighting and not many players staying with the same team for any length of time. theres no reason for todays player to fear another team.

Great article, Blake! I enjoyed reading it and it was really something to actually see my name in print. Unlike Smitty though, I think I only got five minutes of fame! I'm now ready for my other ten.

great article blake should have talked to some old komets and they would have filled a book on stories of real rivalries!

Great article Blake! really enjoyed the old picture from a Komet/Flint fight years ago. Is there any chance you cuold dig up some more old pictures of fights/brawls and post them somehwere? The older the better!
It is too bad there isn't a place where fans can post old Komet pictures and maybe even old home movie clips. I bet there are hundreds out there! I have seen a few before.

Adding another vet spot and taking away the rookie rule is the way to go for the UHL. Having to play 4 rookies is stupid because it possibly brings the level of play down. I say if a player isn't good enough to make the team then he should be cut. It shouldn't matter how many you've played. I guarentee without a rookie rule Ryan Keller would still make Muskegon's team (Just one example). Adding another vet would allow teams to keep players around longer and that in turn helps opposing fans know more about your team which creates, like Blake states, a potential rivalry. I'm not sure why teams wouldn't want this! More familiarity and better players would equal more attendance which in turn would equal more profits. Aren't they in the business to make some money?! Just think what our team could potentially look like if there was no rookie ruleor even the 3 rookie rule from last year and 8 veterans.

The Possibility:
Forwards:
Chaulk Goodwin Venedam
Luciuk Drouin Smith
Carpentier Galbraith Stewart
10th forward (rookie)

Defense:
Neumeier Jorde
Guinn Dupuis
Bozoian Sellars

Goalies:
St Pierre
Kurk

That team would compete for a championship! Does anything think we wouldn't be averaging more people per game with that team?

Chuckitt, no time for that unfortunately. Nor enough space to contain them all. As it was, I had to cut four or five inches off what I had.
