Tailing the Komets

thornefront

White beat the Black 4-3 after the Black led 3-1 at the intermission. Stephon Thorne, Jamie Milam and Eric Yngwe each scored once, and Tom Mele and Leo Thomas scored twice. Thorne put a wrist shot just under the crossbar and over goaltender Eric Beech's glove for his third goal in three days. Milan got a blast off a faceoff that was moving so fast nobody saw it. (In fact, that's the picture below). Mele scored two beautiful goals, snap shots top shelf on Nick Boucher. Both of Leo's goals game in front crashing the net, and Colin Chaulk set up Yngwe after a turnover when the rookie was heading to the net.

Some notes: Jesse Bennefield says he hopes he might be able to skate Friday... Jean-Michel Rizk continues to impress using his size and speed to battle for the puck... Tristin Llewellyn looked much better today on the defense and was a force all over the ice... Brandon Warner had two assists and had a much better day, as did Frankie DeAngelis... Dan LaPointe continues to impress at both ends. I think he's been the second-best center in camp so far behind Chaulk... David Starenky is always giving everyone a little extra nudge after each whistle. He and Dustin Molle together are very hard to get around or through... It's shocking how little you notice Bryant Molle, but it's because he moves the puck so quickly and never gets caught out of position. He just always does the right thing and makes it look easy. He and Milam are great together... On one play, Mele stickhandled through about four guys at center ice to set up a teammate for a shot that missed the net... Now that his immigration papers are finalized, Artem Podshendyalov will be in town Tuesday and will start practicing on Wednesday.

Going into camp, I thought the biggest battles would be among the eight defensemen going for seven spots, but that's totally wrong. There are some very good forwards who probably won't make the team. Right now I've got 14 solid forwards competing for 11 spots. Doesn't mean that's what the coaches have, howerver. Thorne, Rizk and Yngwe have been very impressive all over the ice, and their size really stands out.

More later.

Definitely not accusing you of starting a rumor here, either.

Let's face it, if I had my way I'd write three stories a day about the vets, rookies, tweeners, whatever. Don't have that option however since I have to take my own pics and video and blog about everything, too, along with writing about tennis and football and a few other things. I have to try to figure out what I hope you guys will find the most interesting and go with it. Only so many hours in a day and tonight is the first time this week I have finished before midnight.

So I'm going to bed. Partly because I have to work until 3 a.m. tomorrow night on football which is really going to Suck.

Good night all. And you, too, Hit.

I would volunteer to do video and pics...but I won't volunteer to write for you. We wouldn't last long on that one as a team.

JR1 we are really on the same page.
I want the Komets to be in the player development business, not the keeping vets with no hope of advancement business. But when I have tried to bring that point forward some bloggers told me to go back to the other CHL or the USHL.

The reality of it is that PC is here and if a vet is cut (and I believe it is possible) I don't think it will be him.
Hit, I don't think the third line has to be 3 young guys. I think putting him on the ice with two younger and faster guys might just get him motivated to step his game up. You know, pride might kick in that he doesn't want to get shown up by kids 10+ years younger than he is. So maybe he kicks it into another gear.

So if I am going to have to watch the captain, PC, Leo and Nick here for another season, let's bring home a kup and send them off into retirement as winners!

Hit. You sure are the life of this blog. Although, IMO, im going to take advantage of judging. You seem to be the body of this blog but reacts with the Brain. You like to start your own "shananigans" and then find yourself in trying to smooth over your own riots. I just think youre wasting your time here when you could be entertaining the world like an MTV True life show. Get paid for your drama instead of wasting your talents here. Lol. Like i am doing here, i'd watch it. But dont stop. ;D

You are so full of Krap you can't breathe.

I am not here to make friends this season. I have a family to feed.

I only listen to what Blakes and Mark says. Ok MAN? This is a hockey blog, Blakes said so, so if you don't want to talk about hockey, you can leave...ok? MAN?

I just emailed the Chicago Hounds and I will post it here when they respond.

Snuff, I just think that with guys like Chaulk, Milam, Smith, Bennefield, and Boucher, they have enough guys who can keep the young guys on track. You add in 2-3 of these young players who were captains for thier juniors teams and I dont forsee any lockerroom, off ice or on ice issues. The team could afford, in that respect, to let guys like Drouin, Thomas and Warner go and start somewhat of a youth movement this season...

I like the potential for a great mixture of veteran presence, youthful exuberance, and championship experience... Dont let it slip away because you want to stay loyal to a few vets...

Let the season begin. Everyone has been so negative of Pc from last year and it seems like it is going to be this way again. All I can say is I am so glad that I am not on the ice skating that is why they are. It is a lot easier to cut players down because we are not the professionals. Let us just concentrate on the season to start. I know the veterans are going to shine this year and help out with the younger players. Everyone is able to give their own opinion on what they think. All I can say is lets Go Komets!

Boone, my comment wasn't meant to be an attack or "talking crap" about another blog. It's my opinion and a cold, hard fact as to why I don't read Ice Chips anymore. Mr. Cohn has been condescending to bloggers on more than one occasion. It's unprofessional and I have no desire to see it. I'm well within my right and within the context of this discussion to point out why Mr. Sebring has my support and my desire for it to remain that way.

I just hope that Komets coaches/management do what they said and take the best players to form the 60th Komets team. I am looking forward to seeing these guys in action and then maybe put my 2 cents in after I see them play. But I think the young ones that don't make it now, we may see later.

haha. fact? more like opinion. all im saying is, with all due respect to the writer, blakes comment above could be taken pretty harsh. but you having no desire to see it is a step foward. now the only thing that would make it even better...is to keep it off this one. dont worry about it. no real good reason to be over here itchin and moaning about a -different- blog and its writer. just dont see the point... at all.

Yes, FACT. Read it again....
"It's my opinion and a cold, hard fact AS TO WHY I DON'T READ ICE CHIPS ANYMORE."
The fact I speak of is my own personal reason for not reading Ice Chips. I'm not speaking for anyone else. If my goal was to "itch and moan" about another blog I would've done that 10 months ago when I first lost respect for that blog. When my "itching and moaning" has everything to do with what I'm addressing Mr. Sebring about, I think I'm well within reason to reference that. Cohn did "x" so I did "z". If you continue to do "x" I will, again, do "z". I gave precedent to my opinion. Unfortunately, it wasn't a good story. I don't want to put up with the antics any more than you want me to reference the antics. I wish I didn't have to be subject to the unprofessionalism. I wish I wasn't given a reason to be disappointed. But, if you don't stand up against what you think is wrong you're just as guilty as the one doing wrong.

I think, after reading all of these comments, we really need to start watching games and get a hockey "fix".

There isn't any doubt in my mind that we all want the same thing. That is picking the best players from this camp to represent the 2011-2012 Komets.

It appears to me that the Franke's and Al Sims have done a pretty good job bringing in solid, talented players. These include the young guys and also the CHL recruited players. ( It may be their best recruiting year ever.)

I can't talk for everyone else, but for myself I fear that past loyalties can affect the choices made after the pre-season games. Loyalty is a wonderful thing, but must be tempered by the fact that prior announcements coming from the front office have indicated that no one is safe and all must play their way on to the roster for opening night. Cutting ties can be tough but is a necessary learning experience as we recall last season.

A blend of experience, talent, youth, speed, and goal scoring and goal stopping is necessary. I seem to think that the defense is pretty well st up. One or two may have to go. The forward position is where this is tough. We have some veterans that we are questioning. They are fair questions based upon our experience watching them. We seem to have some young, rookie forwards who are doing a nice job impressing people. Some good hockey players will have to be let go. I just hope that the decision makers have the wisdom of Soloman when determining who will go and who will stay.

Apod will be back next week. I doubt they would go through all of this trouble to cut him. There is still the "mystery" signing that "will thrill all Komet fans" yet to be announced also.

The roster will be an ever changing entity for a while.

Keep the best players.

Just drills and skating today. Schrock was not in either practive nor was Bennefield.

Stephon Thorne is an impressive skater and looks like he has alot of hockey skill. He stood out. Big and strong, athletic.

PC stood out to me too. Skating hard and working the drills very well.

Rizk and Ywnge both big talented, look good.

Starenky looks solid as anyone for just defensive skill and postioning. I have to say all of our Defensemen are bigger and stronger than what we have had in the past and all seem sound skating and moving the puck.

It will be alot easier to point out who looks good watching them tonight in a game.

Stay tuned tonight or early this AM when I get back from Dayton...I will let you guys know what I saw.

Bob,

It was a joke since I can't come on here without annoying pop-ups. I already have my Masters degree and am working on my doctorate. As I'm sure you know, unless your parents have never had a job, or your parents are divorced and you're one of 30 kids living on foodstamps, fafsa is a waste of time to apply for.

Also, the 10:15 practice only had Chaulk, Smith, Chaumont, Auger, Milam, DeAngelis. I assume that those 6 aren't playong in Dayton tonight. Those 6 were not in the 9am practice.

Those 6, I didn't see Schrock or Bennefield in practice, and Apod not here yet makes 9 players not going tonight I assume.

So the other 20 will play in Dayton? Does that seem about right Blake?

Canlan is colder than a meat locker...I am still chattering my teeth. burrrrrrrrr!!!

Hit, Bennefield started the pratice this morning. I was there around 8:50 and they where on the ice. He came off and just sat on the bench in between the locker rooms. He stayed dressed so I dont know what happened.

We had to leave because my nephew got to cold in there. I told him to dress like a butcher but he didn't listen.
