Thanks for the article about High School Hockey. Though we are playing our postponed games from Wednesday at Canlan on Saturday, the league is looking to next Wednesday as the official debut. "Stick it to Cancer" is developing into a great annual event with lots of support from the Vera Bradley Foundation. Coach Schiebel (who many will recognize as a goal judge at Komets games) has done a fantastic job to bring it all together. Many will be going to the Komets home game next Wednesday. Make it a night out and stop by Canlan at 6:30 for part of the first game between Snider and New Haven before heading over to the Coliseum. The new facility is located across the street from Glenbrook Commons.

Wanting to learn a bit more about the Icemen, their players, stats, etc. I Googled them to find their WEB site. When I clicked on the link a warning page from Google came up advising me that their site has installed malware on visiting computers. Hmmm.
So I went to the AAHL site and learned it's a five team league and their commissioner has resigned. Perhaps the AAHL isn't doing well?
Hopefully construction goes fast in Evansville and they will be able to come into the IHL next season, if there still is an IHL.

Found this interesting today from a story in the Chicago Tribune about the Big Ten expansion. Sounds very familiar:
A source from another conference said the Big Ten, which could expand to 12 teams, 14 teams or bond with another league to form a super-conference, will make its decision strictly on finances.
"It will be purely an economic decision," the source said.
Meaning if the league decides schools such as Missouri, Pittsburgh and Rutgers qualify on the athletic and academic fronts, the decision on whether to extend invitations will come down to university presidents asking: Which, if any institutions, can make us the most money?

Blake, who is your pick to win the gold in hockey? it looks like Canada, Sweden and Russia are the favorites but i like the looks of team U.S.A. that is built for speed. i think they might surprise a few teams on the larger rinks.

They are playing at the Canucks stadium so USA will not benefit from a larger rink

They are using a regulation NHL rink. Marty Brodeur will be able to utilize his puck handling strength in the corners of NHL size ice for the first time since the lockout. Just another reason to give Canada an edge. (IMO)

There was one fight. But if that the future stars of the IHL, then the league is in trouble.

1) Shaf is not playing in the Olympics as his Country ( won't even try to spell it ) did not qualify. 2) Don't get all worked up about the fact they used the words "Stars of Tomorrow", they had to hype it someway. 3) I wouldn't want to watch the AAHL on a regular basis. I suppose for some cities and fans who have never had hockey, it gives them something to cheer, a little community pride, and something to do. I think the crowd was about 1000+ people. There were some people from Battle Creek and even a few from Evansville who attended. One thing that happened was that a Battle Creek player and an Evansville player collided full speed and both went down in a hurry. When they hit, there was a THUD that everyone could clearly hear. It was a violent collision. Both players had to be helped off the ice and later the Evansville player had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital. He suffered a concussion and since he only spoke French, another player had to go along to interpret for him. 4) Tim, I know what you mean. It is always nice to see a player return. Ya know something though, he was like two different players if you recall. The first two-thirds of the season he was hot and was popping goals regularly. Then, during the last part of the season and the playoffs he just disappeared. He took a lot of penalties also. The one thing I do remember ( and will never forget ) was when he wanted to fight a guy who "turtled" so he just kept picking him up and slamming him to the ice.

Alan-The guy from Evansville later returned from the hospital and skated a shift in the third period. I don't think he should have but than what do I know.

Thanks for the update, Dschebig. I'm glad he returned but I sure wouldn't think it wise to put him back on the ice.

Hayley Wickenheiser is the cousin of the late Doug Wickenheiser. I'm pretty sure Kim St. Pierre and Kevin St. Pierre are not related.
