Tailing the Komets

Tonight wasn't any better

Give Port Huron credit. The IceHawks came in and played a perfect road game tonight. They let the Komets beat themselves by basically out-smarting them. Once again, Komets were not ready to play early and it cost them badly. Then they kept making very, very bad mistakes by taking penalties, pinching in when they shouldn't have. They didn't get a power-play chance until late in the second period because basically they didn't work hard enough to earn one. It's as simple as that.

It's 4-1 right now with 12 minutes left in the third. IceHawks goaltender Adam Russo was spectacular early when his team really needed him to be, but the Komets really aren't showing much smarts. Refeee Ryan Hutchison got the call exactly right on giving Brad MacMillan a seven-minute call.

Was he paying that guy back for high sticking him?

I will be interested to get Al's take on tonights game. Danko really struggled tonight may have been the worst game I have seen him play. He just flat out turned the puck over that lead to a goal.

The Komets tonight stunk up the joint for the 2nd straight game.

Goaltending was awful. Defensively they were awful.

Offensively...they where just blah.

MacMillans penalty was selfish....and it cost his team big time.

Its TIME TO STEP UP AND START PLAYING....

GO Hawks! GO!

Really, really not cool throwing bottles at Larry tonight! He played it up a little but if you do that you don't deserve to come to another game...... ever.

Since we are gonna throw Komets under this rolling bus tonight.....Can we not find a worse pairing of defensemen than Bertram and Warner? Niether can clear the puck, pass the puck, shoot the puck, and everyone on the ice skates around those 2.

We need Bobby Phillips back fast. And at this point, lets allow Matty Woodard to play defense.

I am a Mitch Woods fan. But this Mitch Woods is killing the Komets. He is doing nothing to help the team right now. He is a liability on the ice, and he takes the dumbest penalties. Mitch needs to take someone to the box with him, instead of skating alone to the box all the dang time.

Positives: OC is playing much better and Leo continues to play very well. I sometimes wonder where PC's head is though. He misses the net way too much.

The topline is not skating like a top line.

It might be time to shuffle the lines to get a spark. I don't know what else this team can do at this point to get that spark. But they are playing really bad.

The passing is terrible.

The effort is questionable at times out there.

The physical play is not there. Just take the dang body guys. It is not that hard. Sometimes coming out to start a game, it doesn't hurt to effort 100% and throw the bodies around and hustle out there and make your own breaks. This group right now comes out and allows the other team to dictate play. Play aggressive.

I am calling out the Positive Peters out there.....what good can you say about the last 2 efforts? Playing hard for 5-10 minutes a game won't cut it. It needs to be all game long.

Komets91 will fill you in on all the positives, Hit, or will just say being negative is turning you on. I couldn't agree more about Woods. I never knew the point of bringing in Woods from day one. I think all his fans who were so in love with him the first time around give him a lot more credit than his play has ever deserved. He is not and has not ever been a great savior of the Komets. His return has been one mistake after another. And while I'm venting, why is Warner getting so much ice time??? I don't care where he's from, he was terrible tonight. Our powerplays were a joke for the most part. Maybe I'm just speaking out of frustration, but how could one not be?? More after I relax a bit and the Positive Patties tell me how great the team is and how awesome Woods and Warner are.

They look like it's about the second week of the season or so. Considering the importance of this game and the size of the crowd I really expected more. Guess I'll have to go to Dayton to see a win.....

Don't count on them beating Dayton there. They give this effort in Dayton tomorrow night and the Gems will smoke them. Dayton plays hard....all game long.

This Komet team is frustrating.

Who threw a bottle at Larry, a fan? If so then I agree Hawks, there is no excuse for it. Sure he played it up a bit, he's that kind of guy and the Ks deserved it. Larry is one of the more entertaining players out there.

Warner would have been gone long ago if not a local kid.
Woods...well y'all know my feelings on him.
You want change? Next year... New coach? New Captain? Things won't change until they clear the roster of everyone who won a cup this decade and start fresh.
Knock junior hockey but every one of those kids has something to play for every night. A chance to get drafted or a chance to play at the college level after their junior time is up. A bunch of late 20's-30's something players without hunger for a cup aren't going to give consistant effort nightly.

Let me put it this way. I feel sorry for Icy on nights like this. Whether 9,057 people had a good time or not was entirely on his shoulders. As for Woods, it does seem (true or not) that his motivation is lacking thus far. I find it hard to believe that his conditioning was so bad that he's still not in game shape. I know he made a comment last summer about retiring again after this season is up, and now I can't help but wonder if he's just not all that interested in playing the way he used to. No, I never thought he'd be a "savoir", but I did expect him to do the things he does well and show some passion for the game out there.

Yeah I would like to know who threw the bottles out on the ice. We talk about Port Huron fans towards us and wow did we make an embarassing fool out of ourselfs. I agree with the others if you can't hold yourself back from throwing bottles then stay home. Yeah everyone was upset how the game ended but please we ARE better FANS then that.

To Mark21 and FrozenWater. I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING YOU WROTE. To Hit Somebody, except for the shuffling of the lines, I AGREE WITH EVERYTHING YOU WROTE.

The difference in the game was simply goaltending. Why the Ks ever brought in Woods is a mystery to me. I hope he goes when Hukalo returns.

So the "agressor" penalty takes the place of the istigator. It's not like he jumped Bedard. Funny, it was far less drastic than what Lawmaster did to Shaf on Halloween... yet MacMillan gets tossed.

We're the IHL, we want toughness... wait, we want selective toughness sometimes...

JR

Agressor penalty...what a joke... If the IHL wants more prospects in the league to make the new commish happy just bring back the instigator penalty and be done with it....

Well at least Wendy had a great guest for the fan interview!! The highlight of the night for me plus having Claude Wickenheiser do the color with Randy! Told them both that I was going to cut back on my talking and let them carry the talk. It isnt often we get to have a great guy like Claude help out. Really enjoyed meeting him..he is a class act!! Blake how much is the book?????

Shoud have said, "Back to you, Claude, Tim, and Randy." Oh well. Funny you should ask about the price of the book, though. ;)

JM, I didn't say I agree about not bringing Woods in. If he'd play the way he used to play, he'd be a tremendous asset.
