Tailing the Komets

Tonight's game

What do you think it's going to take for these guys to get the message about the penalties? Once again they are playing with five defensemen and once again Flint already has two more power-play chances than they do. What's creeping me out is that it always seems to be the veterans who are getting caught in the third period.

another blown 3rd period lead...

I hear Bozoian is back..or hopefully..why didn't they sign someone so they wouldn't play with just 5 dmen...i forget about that...

I hope the Komets show up on Friday..I don't wanna make the 3 hour trek to watch them get blown out..because they forget hockey is a 3 period game...

Just some Komet news....The K's traded for Noah Whyte today. He started the season in Quad City and was traded to Port Huron. We acquired him for some amount of cash.

Blake, I agree. The Vets need to step-up, get smarter, and start leading this team. We gave up 4 goals in the 3rd period to Flint? How can this happen? Look at this:

Neumeier: -4
Jorde: -4
Chaulk: -3 with 1 point
Galbraith: -2 with 2 points

These guys you can argue are our best players, and best defensive players. They have to play better hockey for 60 minutes. This was Flint guys!!!! The same team that we played Saturday night. (6-2 K's) They have got to stop taking gamenight off. I think it is the game between the ears that kills us.

Well penalties wise we had 6 powerplays and Flint had 7. We were 0 for 6 and Flint was 1 of 7. A more telling stat was Jorde and Neumeier were a -4 each and Galbraith and Chaulk were a -2 and -3 respectively. So are better players did not play well at all. I know Lance has come on as of late but he still is leading the team in the +/- category at a -13. He does have 32 points on the year but that stat shows he is somewhat a liability defensively on the ice. Neumeier is at a -5. I know we have only 5 defenseman, but his productivity as a player that logs a lot of ice time is telling in this category. You can even make a case that PC and Chaulk's productivity is lacking. They both are at only a +5 on the year and are the top scorers on the team. You would think these two should be leading in the +/- or close to the top in this stat. Our most productive players to date are Guy with 41 points and a +19, Goodwin with 48 points and a +17, and Guinn with 22 points and a +15 to date. And to think people are ready to throw Guinn to the lions? For as much grief that Guinn takes on this blog I think some of that attention needs to shift to PC, Chaulk, and Neumier. These guys log a lot of ice time through out the game, but defensively speaking they have not produced to the capabilities that they should. Maybe I am making too much out of this stat, but when you look at +/-'s you would hope these guys would be at or near the tops on the team. We missed a golden opportunity to put some space between us and QC tonight. QC lost to Rockford. The race for a playoff spot is going to be interesting. We need to lock up second place in our division, but if we do not the MC and Rich are right there battling for a at large spot. Is that how the 7 and 8th playoff spot is figured??

If it is true that we have acquired Noah Whyte, can anyone here truthfully give a good reason as to why we have this guy? What is the point of bringing in more of the same? He has played 50 or so games this year with whopping 16 points. He is a 6 foot and 185 pound Forward. Sound familiar? Aren't we all ready playing with this type of guy and also sitting some guys who are similiar? Why not give Summerfeld an honest shot at playing? What is this new guy really gonna do for us? At this point, either stick with what we have and not screw up a good thing right now, or go out and bring in an impact player. Please stop bringing in third-line or worse garbage from other teams. He may be a really good guy, we need a really good hockey player at this point.

My guess Hit is we got him for nothing. That meaning future considerations or just plain cash. That is just an assumption on my part and do not really know if we picked this guy up. It would be nice to have an impact player, but I am not sure we are in a position to really deal anyone on our roster. You would think we would try to land a defenseman and not a forward.

Do we have a particular need to pick up "nothing" (a body with a pulse), for nothing? Somebody hurt that we don't know about?

From the few games I saw Whyte play I didn't think he looked too bad. I was really suprised that QC traded him in the first place. It'll really depend on chemistry I would think. Hit Somebody, where are we going to find any top of the league players at this point? For the most part the trades we made this year has helped the team. Some haven't. Let's just see what comes of it. Or maybe we accquired him for a different trade. Who knows? Maybe some of these teams that aren't going to make the playoffs and are in financial trouble will be willing to trade off a big player for cash...but I don't want to start that rumor.

There's the story. Interesting that it isn't on the Komets' transaction page on the UHL's site.

We definetly need second place in the West. I don't think we would make it otherwise with the other teams fighting for the 7th - 8th spots. We are not going to catch Rockford, we just have to be sure we stay on top of QC.

As for the game tonight, I wish I knew what happened. I was in PH a couple weeks ago and was in shock the entire way home. This team is better than that. They can do anything. They have proved that already.

What I would like to see this weekend is a win at Flint (payback) and most importantly a win in Muskegon.

I have no doubt that this is the right team for a strong playoff run. Now is the time to bring on a winning streak. You don't want to peak too soon, but now would be a time to start the upward trend. I can just see it now, a 10 game win streak in the month of March.

Of course, we as fans need to do our part too. Being loud when they need us to be that 7th man.

I was right thanks to the link above. We got Whyte for an undisclosed amount of Cash. Interesting we would not give the cash to Sellars to help our defense, even with a bum knee, but we will throw out money to get a guy like Whyte. For what I ask, maybe we are using him in a trade for someone that is what could be happening because I do not see where we need him in our lineup. Is he a rookie???

Yeah I'm not sure I understand this deal either. We are playing with 11 forwards in our line up right now and only 5 defenseman. So unless someone is hurt or someone is going somewhere in a deal to get a defenseman then I'm not sure why they did this. The moves we've made have worked though so lets give it some time and find out.

Who's going to Flint?? Can you let me know where you are sitting?? Thanks! GO KOMETS!

It seems to me that it is easier for the forwards to come back and help defensively when the team is scoring. This may be contributing this year to some of our top players poor plus minus numbers. Guys like chaulk, drouin, galbraith, are working so hard in the offensive zone to try and create some goals that they dont have that zip to get back defensively. Last year when chaulk had venedam and goodwin on his line I dont think he had to create as much offense and he was always back helping out the defenseman. Neumeier and jorde seem to always be out numbered in the K's zone especially since we dont really have that scary offensive team that makes the opposing teams scorers play some defense. Thats why I believe it is SOOO important for this team to play physical and get the other teams forwards lookin over thier shoulders....

Was planning on going to Flint but have never been there. If anyone can tell me the easiest way to get there and how long it takes would be appreciated. Would like to know where other komet fans sit to buy tickets around there. Thanks!
