Tailing the Komets

Tonight's game

Did anybody else notice it seemed to be the veteran players who were making the critical mistakes at the wrong times? On Rockford's last goal, the Komets had Dupuis, Guinn, Miller, Drouin and Chaulk on the ice. They can't do much better than that lineup. Galbraith was on the ice for five goals, three for and two against, Neumeier and Miller on for three against.

Sounds like we gave one away tonight that we really needed to win. Chase summarized the game that we got out-hustled way too much after going up 4-1 in the 2nd. He also sounded like we took too many dumb penalties and that certain guys were giving up the puck in front of the net too often.

Should we stop expecting so much out of this team and just live with the fact that we cannot compete with Rockford, K-zoo, and Muskegon this year? Should we just accept what this team is? Is there any hope?

I was saving this for Friday's at a glance, but whatever.

One reason the Komets are getting creamed by the UHL

Blake while I agree with you about the powerplay stat's it still comes down to the fact that we do not have the talent from top to bottom with this club. We lost 2 to 3 guys from last year that imo were not replaceable. Venedam and Greenville come to mind. Our jimmies are not better than Rockford's, Muskegon's, and K-zoo's joes. That is not coaching, that simply is not getting "lucky" in scouting future talent to step in and take over.

Rockford scored 3 goals in the 2nd period? Most of the time that is not an odd thing, but when you are up like the K's were last night and then let the HOGS come back like that? I'm frustrated ..very frustrated.

I wonder if Frenchy would have been in play would he have let the 3 goals in the 2nd slip right through? I'm not putting Kurky down...I'm just wondering!!!

My bad the HOGS o'n'l'y scored 2 goals in the 2nd period. But still......

I heard it really wasn't a lack of goal tending that gave the game away so I don't know if St. Pierre could have made much of a difference.

Mark Smith (while having a career type season before he left) turned out to be a suitable replacement for Grenville. But even still, we have yet to place this hole but 30 goal scorers aren't exactly falling from the sky these days either.
Sean Venedam had a once in a lifetime year last season and I would say Lucuik will put up about the same numbers to what Sean normally did, but in less games. Andrew is the more consistant offensive player but I think Sean did more of the little things that don't show up on a stat sheet and it cost us Virag to get him.
Still leaves us a few bullets short of a full magazine, on paper.

The Komets will be eliminated in the first round in 3 of 4 likely scenarios (DAN,MUS, KAL) and have a slight chance against Rockford only if they have call-up problems. This team is not amongst the elite of the UHL and should consider making the playoffs its season goal right now. Either Neumeier is one of the biggest victims of the new rules, or he has just plain gotten old. He was around a plus 50 last season and is (-8) this season. I know this has something to do with the line you are paired with, but he seems to have lost a couple steps and is always trailing the play.

Personally I think this team can be as good as the best in this league This team has enough talent to beat the best teams in the UHL.Last year they knew they could beat the best. This year with the pressure of trades, line changes , new players on the team and a revolving door for other players. Not to mention that the komets have arguebly one of the best organizatins, cities and fan base in all of minor league hockey.I feel that the Komet players are still getting to know how to play together, and what to expect from each other in certain situations on the ice ,when and if that happens look out cause I dont think weve seen the best yet from this team.

This is what our team needs to represent:

Komet Hockey. It's about Dedication. Determination. Skill. Slapping the puck in the net. And, unleashing the JUNGLE on Other Hockey Teams, Night After Night.

Sorry, folks. But with the exception of Chaulk, St. Pierre, Drouin and Dupuis, the majority of players on this team are AVERAGE at best. Every year we seem to load ourselves down with the 5' 10', 185 lb 15 goal-scoring wingers who only play one style. While our defense may have reasonable size, show me one guy one this team that ever has opponents looking over their shoulder for to avoid a hit.

Why is it that, despite the numbers Puhalski puts up at this level, he can't even get an INTERVIEW in the AHL?

FYI....Jeff Worlton did sign with Stockton of the ECHL, he's played 1 game no points 5 pim's...Josh Vanderbreggen played 2 games with Columbia (ECHL) no points 2 pim's and then released. Nothin stellar; but according to the reactions to thier departures I just you'd like to know....

Vanderbreggen sure looks inviting now that Jarram is out for awhile.

Any news on Jarram's shoulder?

Why the fascination with Vanderbreggen? Roanoke released him, Columbia has now released him, whos next? Are all these coaches nuts or is he no good to play in AA hockey. There has to be a reason why three teams have let him go this year.

I'm with Nanci: how's Jarram doing? I know he suffered a separated shoulder, so how long is he going to be out of the line-up?

See you all in Kalamazoo!! Anybody else going?

The Fascination with Vanderbreggen was he was a kid who played a rough style of play on D and would drop the gloves. He showed a lot of grit as a defensemen something that was lacking.

i agree with carl and skate, this years team just doesnt have it, chaulk, st. piere, always steady, dupuis is starting to get better, drouin is a point a game player but one that you hardly even notice out there, the rest of the squad is average to below ave. dont mean to be so negative but i just dont see any playoffs runs this year unless they can get lucky and land a couple stars!

I'm going to give the Komets credit where credit is due! They work hard day in and day out to improve. And when they play 4 games in 5 nights... It's pathetic the way some of these bloggers whine and point the finger. I would LOVE to see the Komets vs. The Whiners from this blog play a little hockey.

Overachieving right now. Congrats and keep it up.

Any word on Kean? Blueline getting thin again.

My facination with Vanderbreggen is simple. He had decent wheels, gritty, he hit, and he gave me something to remember this year. The game were Chaulk kneed Chaz Johnson. He skated the length of the ice and did the superman dive onto the pile to drag someone out and fought. First game as a Komet and he is out there standing up for his teammates. You do stuff like that, you get a fanbase. They had Johnson and Big Snake out there together while we had Chaulk, Druin, I assume Goodwin, ect. Could of been real ugly.
He might be the worst defenseman ever to skate a pro game but I certainly didn't get that impression in his short stint here. Zero even strength goals scored against while he was here. Franke and Puhulski are the experts on talent so maybe they seen something different.

Vanderbreggen is one of those guys that if he didnt fit in on defense I'm sure he would have moved to forward. The fans liked him so why not keep him as your odd forward and let him do his thing. He could skate, would ACTUALLY hit someone, and he showed his grit by coming to Chaulk's defense. Plus if one of the defenseman get hurt he could fill in. Oh well....

I would say that we are a good team when everyone is healthy; our problem this season is that we have had very few times when the whole team has been playing. I think having Carpentier and Kean out of the lineups are HUGE holes. Now I am not saying that they are stars, but they do the little things that help our start from having to do it all. Hopefully we can ride these injuries out and get healthy for February and hopefully the playoffs.

Nanci, Who was whining on this blog topic? You think opinions about what is going on is whining? I am not trying to start a fight or anything, but can't people give some feedback on here? I didn't read anyone really saying anything that bad about the Komets at all. I think everyone wants this team to do good. Just confused.
