Tony, Nice card....Is this his Rookie Card? Could you please tell me more about the card itself....I'm going to sort thru my modest collection to see if I might have Goneau's card already. Thanks

Hi Bob, he only had a few NHL cards. This is from the Be A Player autographed series. This series included an autographed card in every pack. It is from 1996-97 but it is not considered a true rookie because it is an insert. He had rookies in Upper Deck, Leaf Limited, Flair and a couple of other sets. To the best of my knowledge this card and it's silver parallel are his only certified autographed cards.

Please forgive me Blake, I know your busy, but. Justin s back on the Journal desk and is reporting that Kevin Reiter will not play for the Komets this season as he wants to play in the ECHL (no surprise there as, in my opinion, Reiter wants to play in a place where he knows he'll get some playing time and that won't be behind St. Pierre. IMO the Komets will be hard pressed to find a good back up. Justin is also reprting that Bingham is talking to KJ Voorhees who played for Knoxville in the SPHL.

I'm not surprised about Reiter not wanting to play in Fort Wayne. I'm sure that the Franke's will find another goalie that wants to be here....maybe we'll find someone during training camp. But, it would be interesting to know who else they are considering.....

Can we bring Kurk back??
Greg
Tue, 08/22/2006 - 5:10am
The problem is, a guy like Reiter would allow Bingham to play St. Pierre a little less and keep him fresh for the playoffs. Unfortuantely (sp), I think St. Pierre's pension for wanting to play a whole lot has now hurt. Yes the Komets will find a back up, but I have very little confidence that they can bring in a quality back-up to have the confidence to spell St. Pierre when necessary.

Nanci, who'd want to bring Kurk back? Not worth the effort. What about Sickich?(sp) He didn't get a lot of playing time, but didn't look that bad to us.

Tyler who???
Tony E

Tyler Masters? I don't know. I thought he should have been brought back last year but notice nobody wanted him as he sat out most of last season. That tells me there is something wrong because you don't go from winning 20 games to being out of hockey unless there are injuries, personality issues or some other problem.
Kurk....Well it is tough to judge him because his playing time was so scattered.
You know we may have the thought process backwards..There are alot more goalies out there than teams who need them. I am sure the Komets are looking but they may also be looking to see who contacts them first. I think they may look to pick up someone cut from the AHL or ECHL that would be a quality goalie who could start should St. Pierre get hurt again. Or maybe even push him for playing time. I think Frenchy may have lost his intensity a bit last year because he got too comfortable. Goalies tend to play better if they have competition pushing them.

We had been told that the reason Tyler wasn't back last year was because Frenchy didn't want him back. He said that he wouldn't sign if they signed Tyler. We thought he might have been worried about his starting position since Tyler was pretty quick and was much better at shootouts. Maybe Frenchy felt that he was too much competition. Tyler really wanted to come back last year. He told us that he really only wanted to play in Ft Wayne.

I can't speak to what Masters said or why the Komets didn't want him back. I can say that, if I'm not mistaken, Masters player a couple of games early in the year with Richmond then didn't play at all. So I don't see Masters as a viable (or capable) back up.

backup goalie will play itself out thru camp or after. plenty of guys will be looking for a job. any coach worth his salt would not let st pierre demeand any type of playing time. if hes # 1 then get a backup whom a smart coach would play more than the cardboard cutout did.

BUt who have to have confidence in that back up to give him the playing time. Reiter would have earend that confidence with the expierence that he brings. I'm not saying the Komets can't find a back up, and God willing he'll be capable, but I for one do not think that a goalie worth his weight will come to this team knowing that he might not get a lot of playing time.

I think one backup goalie to consider would be Kelly Shields. He was a really good back up when we had him the last couple times. He would be a good asset.

Always looking to the past. Yawn. Half the recent backups are retired or barely hanging on including Masters and Shields. Sikich did probably set a record though playing with 6 teams last year.
I will at least say this, given the circumstances for this year, I doubt any team will have a good one-two goaltender combo. So the question becomes, Can St. Pierre stay healthy and then have a productive Playoff run. Neither have happened in his Komet career.

Shields did play in a differet league for a while so don't say that he hasn't played or anything. Sikich would be our best bet. He was very god when we had him. Too bad we had an idiot for a coach and that time and he didn't see how good Sikich really was.
