Leave it to Burgee to ruin a perfectly good trivia question. How about an attaboy?

Only reason I know this is because I saw Mario Lemieux do it all by himself one night on TV. Remarkable.

Darn, I knew this one! Oh well. Too slow. Of course, the reason I knew it was because of a short highlight reel of that Mario Lemieux 5 goals-5 ways game that was mentioned on PuckDaddy last fall. I looked up again just now. Pretty amazing stuff.

Off the subject but I want to post this. No one, and I mean no one, can tell the extent of an injury when a player is taken (or helped) from the ice. Last night Robin Bouchard (certainly not a favorite of any Fort Wayne fan) was helped off the ice after a check by Brad MacMillan. It appeared to me as a head injury as he was motionless on the ice for quite a while. Even the Komets team doctor came on the ice. As a season ticket holder I was embarrassed by the music that the P.A. guy decided to "entertain" the fans with. The Fort Wayne Komet Hockey Club prides itself as being a "class" organization. No "class" was depicted then. I hope this was just a case of a poor decision that will not happen again. Some of the hits and checks in hockey can be quite scary. Remember the cross check to Kevin Hanson? Lets use better judgement next time.

Heres another random thought I had while watching the game last night...How many time did Mr. Defensive forward-Tab Lardner get schooled or beat by the real best defensive forward of the league David Hukalo. I am thinking that the league is getting sick of giving it to Hukalo so they had to give to someone else, but they got it wrong. again just a random thought!

What was with the musky goalie coming out and playing 15 seconds of the third period?

Just a note to everyone concerning "the hit" and my actions afterwards. I was busy upstairs and saw it after the hit happened and then realized who was on the ice. After seeing him act hurt many times and using the possum routine to try and draw a penalty, I thought that's what it was initially. When I realized that it was more serious than originally thought, I switched to pa announcements and not just go silent . When he did get up, I did play "Dizzy" because if you have ever played the game and ended up staring at the ceiling, that's what you feel. I know what concussions can do because I've seen the worst of them (Robin Bawa) and taken those hits myself back when I played organized hockey. In retrospect I probably could have done it a different way. I'm sorry if you were offended by my spur of the moment choice. I try to inject some levity into the things sometimes to keep it from being a grave situation. Once I realized he left with help on his own 2 feet, then I knew things were going to be better. My job is not scripted just like a game is not scripted and just like a mistake on the ice, sometimes in the heat of the moment I make them too.

I believe the whole 15 second goalie thing was he has to play one shift in 6 different games to be allowed for play offs. Just like hodgman has to play atleast one shift for us to use him.

No problem, Larry.

Kometfan, they are trying to qualify him for the playoffs. He has to play in six games to qualify so they are putting him in for a shift at a time because they are still trying to secure a playoff position.

I think there are 6 ways to score a goal !!!
If the other team puts the puck in their own goal !

So maybe the question should be "Five ways for a team to score a goal in a game?"

KometsPA: I didn't seen your reply on this post when I commented on the other post. I appreciate your reply here and was honestly surprised that it even happened (being as you are normally hilarious and spot-on appropriate). I've always commented (ever since I was a little girl) about how much I would love to have your job and I suppose I never thought about situations like that. Thank you for commenting and I look forward to your clips at the next game.

I do have a question for all of you though. Out of all of the games I've been to in my life, I've never seen so many centers on their knees as I saw last night. Other than trying to delay the game, I can't for the life of me figure out why they would do that. Any insight? Thanks!

shouldn't you have to play more then a shift to qualify for the playoffs?

Kometfan21 & GameMisconduct.... On the score sheet you indicate if a player becomes part of the game. In fact a player would not (at least when I was involved) even have to skate a shift. They could set in the pent. box to serve a goaltenders time or when a player gets a minor and maybe a misconduct. All they have to do is take part in the actual game. Believe it or not there have been cases over the years where a player set on the bench and never took part in the game. The one you see all the time and do not think about is the 2nd goaltender setting on the bench. He does not get credit for the game until he takes the ice....

Blake, there are only five ways to score a goal. If you remember when Leo Thomas won a draw a few weeks ago and the puck went all the way down the ice and into to the empty net. The last player to touch the puck or the closest player to it gets credit for the goal. In that case it was the other centermen. Sorry but someone on the other team gets the goal. No one felt worse about that goal than Leo Thomas. I could find know one who could ever remember that happening before.
