Opening Arguments

U2 can fight poverty

I thought it would take a lot longer for Nancy Pelosi and Hary Reid to do something I would agree with:

Meetings in Washington last Thursday between rock star Bono and Democrats, including Senate leader Harry Reid of Nevada, yielded a nice photo-op but not much else, according to Bono.

Bono, the U2 frontman and anti-poverty activist, was on Capitol Hill to seek assurances that $1 billion in planned U.S. spending to fight AIDS and malaria in Africa would not be lost if Congress freezes agency budgets in the coming year.

Bono said he also was seeking to close a "commitment gap" between what President Bush has requested for anti-poverty efforts and what Congress has agreed to spend in the past.

After meetings with incoming Senate Majority Leader Reid, House Speaker-to-be Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Democrats on the House Appropriations Committee, Bono said he came away empty-handed.

"I'm alarmed we could not get a commitment from the Democratic leadership to prevent the loss of $1 billion in the continuing resolution," Bono said Thursday in a statement.

Anybody who can "alarm" an arrogant twit like Bono can't be all bad. You know how much of a dent could be made in poverty if U2 would just cut their outrageous ticket prices in half?

Amen, hallelujah. Leo, your timing in the delivery of this liberal-slammer redeems it so well that I'm LMFAO. More of the same, puhleeze.

Bono doesent have to give his money away... Bono is not about Poverty so why F*** should he have to give his money to them... Its about us (including Bono). Again its not about one person donating money. Goverments have the power to do something and governments will increase aid if we as people find it important that it is not ok anymore that children are dying of hunger... That is not ok anymore.. That is important not just to me but so many people... Most Governments give less then 0.5 percent to the poorest and then if going up to 0.7 will end extreme poverty then im all for it.... Why is there so much hate??? Do you like poverty?? Why would you not want to change the world in this way?

I agree with Joe. Besides Bono can give all his money away, and it still wouldn't do any of those poor people any good, if the richer governments don't start helping poorer countries out economically to become self sufficient. Besides if you hate U2 so much, what do you care how much their tickets are, as you obviously wont be buying any.
