Tailing the Komets

Un-be-liev-able!

Komets trailed by one in the final minute, but Konstantin Shafranov roofed a wrist shot from just outside the crease in the final minute to force overtime, and then score 1:17 into overtime off a backhand pass from Rick Varone to give the Komets the win.

"It was a great win for us," Komets coach Al Sims said. "When you are losing with 42 seconds left and you end up winning, it's unbelievable. It says volumes about our team and the belief they have in themselves, especially on the road.

Believe it or not, I had a feeling this was going to happen, even as the clock was running down. Okay, so I knew it might not happen, too, but I felt strongly enough that it could to not be surprised. Sure, we were down a goal, and that's never a good thing against a team like Port Huron. But then I realized that the Ice Hawks hadn't put us away, either, despite it sounding like they were giving it their all. It's the first time all season that I actually wasn't worried about the Komets finding a way to win. So yeah, remember how I was saying a turnaround was still possible but probably not likely? Well, guess what? :D
