Hit Somebody!!!
Wed, 11/11/2009 - 6:01pm
No....the goal obviously is marketing to get as many butts in the seats as possible. The IHL needs this added drama to draw some attention and to get the fans back to the game. If it works, then they are freaking brilliant.....everyone wants a cup, but i would guarantee that the league as a whole is not looking to hand-out 7 cups this season, they are looking to attract fans to the games. So Relax, Big Bird.....er.....Big Bird's friend.....LOL

And what's wrong with wanting to see a little retribution? Is it ok if we call it that instead of revenge? I'd love to be able to see that game. I think I've asked this before, but do they B2 all their away games? If so, I might have to fork out the $8 for that one, even if it is tame. I just want to be sure I don't miss anything. Not even a nasty look directed at Lawmaster. I have a way better name for him, but I think I'd get in trouble for it on here, so I won't use it....

The komets need to worry about the first two games this weekend before anything else.
Andrea
Thu, 11/12/2009 - 10:51am
I would agree with Alan. Worry about the games on Friday and Saturday, then turn your attention to the game on Sunday. One at a time. I can understand why the Lumberjacks would advertise in this fashion, they need to sell seats. However, this could backfire if nothing happens during the game. They are taking a risk. Now, for how I really feel. I would agree with the concensus that it was pathetic how the Lumberjacks went after some Komets, absolutely. However, I would like to see the Komets get even in the standings and by beating this team each time they play. I believe it would make the Lumberjacks more upset for the Komets to take it to them in the standings than with fists flying. In the end, points are what the team needs; not penalties and not suspensions. If you want to prove a point, do it by scoring the goals and winning each time. Put the puck in the net, play smart hockey, and play your game. That will make the Lumberjacks more upset than anything else.

Alan - Good point. I hope this season doesn't turn into something where the attention is placed solely on what will happen the next time the Komets play Muskegon. I highly doubt that will happen with the team we have and with how Coach Sims works on the psychi of the guys on the team.
The real question is are their tickets there always only $5?? We almost pay that just to park! Even the cheapo seats at the Coliseum are $10 aren't they? Granted, our facilities are a lot better than anyone else's, but the revenue from the Komets aren't the sole source of funds for the arena (concerts, trade shows, racing, etc). We obviously don't mind paying the higher prices, but it still was an attention-getter that you could get into a hockey game at this level for $5!

$5.00 tickets help fill the building with non-season ticket holders. People who may not have otherwise come to the game. It helped sell some seat in Flint last week-end. You can only do it once or twice a season or you will make the season ticket holders upset. My experience tells me winning the game will be the focus. Curtain players will get their just do in the course of the season. Sundays game should be some fairly tired players tryng to win first and foremost. I have been wrong before and will be again. I am going to the game and hope to see the Komets win.
Alan
Thu, 11/12/2009 - 1:36pm
I totally agree with you and Andrea, Dschebig. The first thing the Komets need to do is win games. The schedule is very unbalanced so far this season. For example, Dayton has played 11 games already and Fort Wayne has played only 7. This is because there is an uneven number of teams in the "I" and also building availabilty. The point is that Fort Wayne has "games in hand" against almost every team. Now is not the time to lose focus on the importance of winning.....the players know how to handle the situation with Muskegon. Al Sims will not let "revenge" get in the way of "winning". For those of you who are expecting something big to happen; well, it could, but usually the next game is pretty tame. Remember that Sunday will be the K's third game in three nights whereas Muskegon will have had Saturday night off. For those looking for some "payback", I would suggest it would be better if it were to happen here in Fort Wayne when Muskegon returns in a week or so......Dschebig is also right on the money when he states that a team can only discount tickets so often without upsetting the season ticket holders.

If someone is going to Muskegon to watch a hockey game, great...I wish I could go, but lately my work schedule has been terrible. However, if one expects "Revenge on Ice"....forget it, it won't happen.
Every time after an incident like that happens, the next game between the two teams is extremely mild by comparison. I have be going to games for almost 25 years and I have rarely witnessed anything major occur in the next meeting after an on ice incident.
Like Alan said, the team is going to be tired after playing 3 games in 3 nights....I know that I would be....LOL

Or there are games in early December if you'd prefer, but they probably won't be as big as those 2. Pick your poison. You guys are going mental on this thing about Muskegon.
Yes, winning hockey games is the overall goal.
No one here said anything about losing sight of playing hockey and worrying about revenge on Muskegon.
Finally, the events that happened in FW against Muskegon is the kind of thing that people have been whining about not seeing enough of over the last 5-6 years of hockey in the UHL and IHL. People wanted to see some rivalries, some villains, some hatred between players and fans and hatred on the ice of teams. People complained that this level of hockey was losing the "It" factor which is the drama and the old time hockey of the past IHL. The Hockey is good this season and there is nothing wrong with fans and players getting a little extra intense because Muskegon is coming to town, or vice-versa.
If you guys want to watch boring hockey with no drama and no bitterness between teams and fans/players.....then I suggest moving up the road to Kalamazoo.....because that is what they have there.
