Tailing the Komets

untitled

The Komets and the Vera Bradley Foundation have teamed to fight breast cancer and promote awareness for early detection and treatment by presenting a "Pink The Rink" weekend when the Komets host the Tulsa Oilers in a double-header weekend Friday, Jan. 20 and Saturday, Jan. 21 at the Memorial Coliseum.

As part of the "Pink The Rink" weekend, the Komets will wear a one-of-a-kind jersey in support of breast cancer awareness.  The jersey will be white with pink and black trim.  The jerseys will be sold in a silent auction starting with the game on Friday, Jan. 20.  The auction will end after the second intermission of the game Saturday, Jan. 21.  All monies received will be donated to the Vera Bradley Foundation.

In addition to the colorful jerseys, the Komets will use pink skate laces and tape.  A sticker of the breast cancer ribbon will be affixed to the player's helmets.  Special Komet pink wearables and souvenirs will be sold each night and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Vera Bradley Foundation.

Also, player wives and significant others will be selling "Pink The Rink" autographed player pucks.  The pucks will be specially wrapped by the Vera Bradley Foundation and will sell for $10 each.  All proceeds will go to the Vera Bradley Foundation.

Awesome! My mother-in-law is a breast cancer survivor. I'm glad to see the Komets doing this.

I want to get a puck also. Will they be selling them during the game on the 21st?

I'm sure I know where my wife will be spending some of my money...I might have to rethink the 60th jersey auction to save for this one!

Is it possible to bid on a pink jersey if you are not at the game?

I really love this idea I know so many that have died from breast cancer and survived. My wish is if you couldn't afford one of the players if they would make them and sale them at Komet Kaurters and the proceeds go to breast cancer after the auction. Have they thought of that.....This year there is no way that I could afford a jersey from one of the players. Just an idea.....

Phillylinda - I bet this will be an "only at the games" thing, like the Camo jerseys were in past years. Otherwise it's like trying to merge two separate auctions. I hope, though, that the logistics are a little better. In past events like this, it was hard for the folks at the bid table to keep the posted bids current.

Ida - great idea. I think my wife would love rocking one at the games even if we couldn't get a game-worn one.

Don't forget, this isn't just for the ladies. My dad is a breast cancer survivor as well.
