Tailing the Komets

Update from Kelly

``I talked to Pat and David last night. I told David and Pat next year, if they see that I put up good numbers, maybe there's a future again. I told David last night that Fort Wayne Komets have ran 55 great years as an organization and when my famiy run an organization, they run it the same way. The professionalism is unbelievable. It's just an ice-time thing. I'm excited, I can't wait to get on the ice and play in a game.

"I hope those guys do really well. I'll keep track of them. I did mention to David and Pat if they get in a jam and need players to call me directly. We'll cross that bridge when it comes. Pat is a great coach. Every drill leads into some reason with his systems. He's teaching these guys all over the ice. I hope that I'm going to use those skills that he's already taught me here in Huntsville. I want to use them coaching someday.''

Class act

I second that. While he is not a stat sheet stuffer, his importance to the team is unmeasureable. Based on our inability to stay out of the box...I think his PK abilities will be missed.

Can we actually call him up from Huntsville or how does that work?

There is no reciprocal agreement between UHL and SPHL to honor contracts so it's theoretically possible. Unlikely, though.

I'm not surprised to see Kelly go, but I'm sad about it all the same. At least he got to leave on his own terms. He was fun to watch in that he worked his tail off all the time. Nice guy & a class act off the ice, too. Best of luck in Huntsville, Kelly!

At least he is going to be heading for a nice community. I have umpired a couple of tournaments at U Of A Huntsville. Friendly people, nice mild winters and plenty of stuff to do.

This points out the stupidity of the UHL's veteran rule. Who cares how many veterans you have and who cares how many you play as long as the team is under the hard salary cap? Who cares if one team suits up ten veterans and eight rookies each game? I don't as long as they are under the hard cap.

The vet rule is one of the stupidest rules in the UHL. We know have a hard cap, that should be good enough.

Sorry to see this, but can't say I'm totally surprised. I was afraid he'd be the odd man out with the extra veterans. Good luck, Kelly!!

Can we blame the Owners on the Vet Rule or can we finally safely lay this one at the Fearless Leaders doorstep? Brosal has to be blamed for something....I am sure of that.

While I wish Kelly and his family well. Miller is indeed a class act on and off the ice. I would welcome him back in a heartbeat.

We'll all miss you and wish you nothing but the best of luck in wherever you play. I hate it that it's not here, but I can agree with his reasoning.
