If we don't go three more games, would it carry over next year? I knew they would not suspend Reaney no matter what he did. NO WAY. This whole situation is sorry as heck.

Well its supposed to be "open season" so we'll see if that is true or lip service to sell tickets. It was a clean hit but unfortunate he got injured. I think him being the leading scorer, the fact he got hurt, and all the complaints about it afterwards played more into this than the actual hit itself. I suppose if OC layed there after being blind-sided would of resulted in a suspension. I am more disapponted in the lack of consistancy (see Frankie) than the actual suspension OC received.

I am hoping to see their best effort of the season tomorrow because alot of guys are playing for jobs, pride, and CHL respect.

WOW! what a hose job. dishing out suspensions based on injuries? no way league hinders rabid cities chance of defeating komets. this is more staged than wrestling. one word "credibility".

I agree the consistency is BAD. If guys like Reaney and Christian are without suspensions I say throw bows in faces and board everyone.

I'm kidding about that last part but seriously thats the message you are sending to the players.

I found this comment interesting coming from Colin Campbell (NHL disciplinarian) as he described the intent of Rule 48 (the same rule being cited for OConnor's hit...):

But NHL senior executive vice president of hockey operations Colin Campbell said the hit did not merit a suspension.

"When Rule 48 [Illegal Check to the Head] was unanimously adopted by the general managers in March 2010, there was no intention to make this type of shoulder hit to the head illegal," he said in a statement. "In fact, at that time, we distributed a video to all players and teams that showed a similar hit on a defenseman by an attacking forward coming from the opposite direction behind the net and stated that this is a 'legal play.'

"This hit meets none of the criteria that would subject Torres to supplemental discipline, including an application of Rule 48: He did not charge his opponent or leave his feet to deliver this check. He did not deliver an elbow or extended forearm and this hit was not 'late.'"

This is in reference to the Torres hit on Seabrook during Sunday's game.... Interesting to say the least, BTW, the article can be found at ESPN.com

Yes Dan, if the series were to end on Wednesday or Friday...the suspension does carry over to next year if OC is with the Komets (or any CHL team for that matter) There are also some other leagues that will enforce the penalty from the CHL if he does change leagues

JR1..I read that article and watched the video of the hit on Seabrook from Torres...that hit was MUCH worse than the hit OC put on Menei and Torres gets no suspension (Note: this was his first game back from a 4 game vacation because of another illegal hit). OC is getting completely hosed on the deal. The CHL is basically saying that a 5 minute major with an obvious intent to injure is equal to a 3 game suspension when the guy didn't target the head and didn't intend on injuring him. I would rather of had OC in the box for 5 than in the stands for 3 games.

Maybe OC sitting for 3 games is what the K's needed...it gives them more of a chip on their shoulder and purpose to play balls out and stick it to RC.

I know a lot of you don't/didn't like IHL 2.0, but I would love to see the K's get out of the CHL and go back to something that makes more sense and makes it easier for the fans to travel to road games. Plus is BS like this OC - Reaney incident that makes the CHL look completely biased, classless, clueless, and stupid.

Bloggers don't play hockey. Except for Brian. Where is Brian anyway?

Bloggers complain. Its the very nature of this site. Blake supplies information, we complain and argue. Why mess up the flow now? ;-)

im still here JM.. just taking it all in. watched the video of the hit many many times. i cant believe this is a hit worthy of suspension. we chatted about it in the locker room and 99% think its nothing more than a political suspension. no way the CHL will allow an IHL team success . the officiating has been very very poor all season and it obviously carries on up thru the hierarchy of the league

WOW simply amazing the excuses people come up with.

Frodawg, no excuses just observations.
Not one person save the CHL grand poobah has deemed this hit suspensionable.
We (Komet Fans) have a greivance with no forum other than this blog to air our displeasure.
Sorry if you don't agree, no I'm not sorry.
No one is making you read it.

It's just strange when every game i have been too and have watched, the ref/linesmen have always came out on the ice before both teams, and leave after both teams have left the ice. Why is it, at Rapid City they came out with Rapid City, Left with rapid City, and at the end of the game, hi fived some fans? (both games).

Frodawg
Tue, 04/19/2011 - 2:07pm

Are you kidding me. I was at the game in Rapid City and that didn't happen.Where are you coming up with this info ?

hey frodawg... the only excuse is the poor excuse of a so called league disciplinarian. we had our only allstar knocked out of action due to a clear blow to the head with no suspension involved. yet we loose one of our best players due to suspension on a very very questionable play because one of the leagues favored team cries in the media . then, the rapid city player gets a free pass (oh , sorry undisclosed fine) with intent to injure one of our players. the chl is a joke! chl credibility is a joke! but, hey what do komets fans know? we only been watching hockey here for 60 years now!

Fro, it happened. All because you personally didn't see it doesn't mean it didn't happen. It was clear as day caught on camera both Friday and Saturday

Harbz, No I dont want to go back to anything even remotely resembling the IHL2.... Jones was NO better handing out suspensions....

Hockey discipline is what it is and always has been.... Unreliable at best...

Yes and i just watched the 3/12 reg season away game and the ref/linesmen came out before both teams, left after both teams and at the end of the game, left after both teams! Kinda odd why the change in the past 2 games in the playoffs!

Steve
Tue, 04/19/2011 - 2:42pm

If the fans high five the ref and linesmen in RC I suppose they'll never see an ice scraper night or a peanut butter marshmallow night or some of the other memorable things seen in probably every other hockey barn in the US and Canada. You have to feel sorry for them..........

Don't agree with the length of the suspension for OC, but I do think the CHL is wrong with the hit by Reaney.

Frodawg
Tue, 04/19/2011 - 2:45pm

Excuses for 2 losses aren't getting you anywhere. They simply got out played and I'm sure it's hard to admit. Remember Komet fans the season isn't over yet but it really would be nice to see it end in 3 games.

This has nothing to do with anti IHL B.S. folks.
Don't you get it that with all of the defections that are coming the CHL is crossing their fingers and praying the Komets (and the other ex IHL teams ) stick around?

This is nothing more than the inconsistant judgement that plagues hockey at all professional levels. Please....stop with the "anti Komet" stuff.

Hate to tell you but your wrong snuff. No way no how does the league allow an ihl team to win. Please remember this is "minor league" hockey. Let's get tropical !

Rabid Pity... LOL! I like that one! I fully concur kw. I'd like nothing better than to see a 3+ goal beatdown tomorrow night. I'll be at center ice behind the Komets bench, 1st row above the walkway.
