Tailing the Komets

Updates, we've got updates

From Komets GM David Franke:

* They are hoping to get 25 goals off the second line from Voorhees who is supposed to be a great locker room guy who can fly and has a pretty decent shot.

* O'Connell is supposed to be a very good skater who didn't play last year because of an inner ear problem.

* They can't come close to matching what Mario Larocoque wants so he won't be here this year. Franke said he's asking for $2,000 a week which is what he made last year in Danbury.

* They are looking at some younger kids who can also play for toughness. "We want to have team toughness and we're working toward that end. We
have a couple of guys on the team who will be able to drop them and go but they
have to be able to play, too. You have to have somebody that can play.
We're hovering in on a couple of guys right now that will bring
that element to us. We'll end up with some physical players here who can get the job
done.''

* They are still talking to Matt Elich's agent.

*  Kevin Reiter is trying to get  a tryout in the ECHL.

* MacMillan signed with Columbia , ECHL and Berry in the CHL.

*  Komets are close to a deal with A.J. Bazoian.

* The Komets are going to get a defenseman from Hershey of the AHL. They already have someone in mind and the deal is done. If that player makes Hershey's roster,  then  Hershey will  find the Komets  another defenseman.

*  Ryan Jorde didn't like the Komets' offer and  the Komets haven't heard back from him in two weeks.

*  They should be ready to announce the signing of two  or three players middle of next week.

*  Komets are talking to Pascal Mourency.

* Komets have not heard back from Jamie Milam.

*  Matt Hunter is not calling Pat Bingham back.

With the player from Hershey, the Komets have 12 players on the roster and if they sign 2-3 next week, they'll be in great shape for this time of the summer. The biggest needs are toughness that can play, back-up goaltender, a second-line center and two or three rookies, all of which should be very doable. There's also a good chance some guys will be dropping into training camp -- the same as happens every year.

``I think there will be a lot of guys coming in
here later in September,'' Franke said, ``and some kids from the Coast. We already know there are
some ECHL teams who have over-recruited and won't have enough spots.''

I'll be interested to see who the defenseman is that we get from Hersey and if he gets called up who they find to replace him. I like the fact that the K's are talking to Bozoian, I felt he should have gotten more playing time.

No Larocoque, no big deal.

If Morency signs, Morency signs. I'll wait to comment on him until I've seen him play in a few games.

I know this will be a negative comment, but I hope Voorhees, the stud from the SPHL, doesn't turn in to another Dan Price.

What was wrong with Dan Price Greg? I kind of liked him. I also hope that they sign AJ. He has a great shot from the blue line.

Dan Price was over-hyped. His biggest accomplishment in Fort Wayne was kicking some tail in an amatuer roller hockey leaguea at the plex and then rubbing it in on a bunch on 17 yr. old kids. IMO, Price was a jerk.

On a different note, we got a call around 7:30 last night from the Ft Wayne Freedom office. We used to have season tickets, but didn't like it when the prices when up after misappropriation of funds. They were about begging us to come back! He even told us that he'd bargain with us on the price. I told him that we are K's season ticket holders and K's tickets are a lot cheaper, by the game, and we see lots more games. I guess the Freedom must really be getting in some tough financial shape.

I'm with JM on Price being over-hyped. He came from the CHL as a big time stud scorer and yet hardly showed it playing for the Komets. Now I grant, we have a different coach so that might make a difference with Voorhees, we'll just have to wait and see.

OK, just wondering why you had said that.

It's the new and improved JungleMonkey. Or the one that's hungover after a night of midget strippers.

The lollipop guild. Haven't I seen them advertised around town at various adult establishments? Wonder what the big attraction is, no pun intended.

Regarding Dan Price - My best memory of him was when Virag was centering a line of Virag, Price, and Massie. They were the hottest line in the league for a number of games including the night that Massie scored four goals. They worked so well together that the coach broke them up the next week and they never played together again that season ending with Price not even getting a chance in the playoffs until the last game when he scored a goal.

I remember that Rick. We were so mad that coach had broken that line up just when they were so hot. Puhalski was so good at doing that. Get an awesome line, break them up, then everything went downhill. He never let guys play together long enough to get used to each other.

Price struck me as having decent hands but he just seemed a step slow at times. Who knows if he was dealing with injuries or the speed of the UHL was faster than he was used to. His skills were above average but he certainly was never going to be an above 40 goal scorer in this league. That being said if he had never had any hype (and really I don't remember anyone from the Komets organization hyping him as a 50 goal scorer but I could be wrong) people would be happy if a guy came from nowhere and put up the numbers he did.

There's another issue with the Frankes. THey have expectations of what this or that player can bring to the team, that's fine. They and the coach discuss it with the. The problem then becomes that they tells those expectations to the press the tells us the fans so we automatically think that's what this player will do, the mineut he doesn't, he's a waste of a roster space. I don't mind saying "we have confidence in this player or that player." But to make those goals public, I don't know, I think it lends itself to ridcule if this player doesn't live up to them.

That's true Greg. Somebody may have scored 40 goals with another team, but there is no way of knowing how they will play with a different coach and team.

Price was a good guy and a pretty good player too. I hope that we do sign A.J.
He was a great defenseman and could bring some class to our team. He had and awesome shot from the blue-line

Hey Jason, grow up and maybe join the conversation a month earlier next time. Been there done that. In fact, why don't you come up with a suggestion of what you'd like to hear instead of ripping him.

Give Larocque $500 from the Komets, $1000 from Perfection Autowash and $500 from Komet Kuarters. Problem solved.

Yeah, except the UHL now has the power to check out every business a team owner is affiliated with. And the government gets kind of grouchy when you do things like that.

as he was affectionatly called in section one, the doughnut boy aka dan price was one of the biggest busts to come in to the komet nation. touted as the next best thing since sliced bread, he barely scored twenty goals and was always the last man up the ice and the first one to head to the bench. blake, im married, not allowed to go the the gentlemans places anymore(still have my lifetime pass to showgirl tho). bring on the lollypop guild, the loolypop guild..... you can use that line instead of the smurf line!

Sat, 08/26/2006 - 11:40am

Does Komet Warrior want to date Robin Big Snake or something. Every few weeks he asks about getting BS for him. The komets shouldnt want him. He took some of the dumbest penalties ive ever seen, even made Galbraiths penalties seem like good ones. Big Snake had talent but let his big head get in the way. If you got in his kitchen he was done for the game.
