The Komets also announced today that defenseman Brandon Warner has been added to the preseason roster and will be in the fold when the Komets training camps begins Oct. 10 at the Coliseum.  The Fort Wayne native has skated the last four seasons with the Komets collecting three IHL Turner Cup Championships his first three seasons of pro play.  Warner, 28, posted five goals and 17 points in 43 games last season and has totaled 22 goals, 73 points and 174 penalty minutes during his 191 game career in Fort Wayne.

I get that.

I can speak from true experience (Blake knows of some of the effects concusions have had on me and I haven't had one in over 10 years). The lows especially when the dizzy spells set in are something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

You can't sleep because the room spins when you close your eyes. You can't open your eyes for too long in the light because the headaches come in.

The worst part is, you never know from one day to the next how you will feel so you become afraid to make plans with friends and family. It can be a very very lonely existance.

I am not calling for an end to fighting in hockey. I do think it crazy that they throw their helmets off (which has been outlawed at lower levels). Yeah I know... they can wreck their hands. But better hands than brains, no?
I also have to wonder if any of these guys making let's face it a mediocre wage for the work they do, if any of them see what happened to some of these NHL guys and question if it is worth it. I know most of them are tough as nails and won't admit to being afraid but in the end...I just wonder.

Snuff, I know what you are saying about concussions and the after effects. I am not saying that fighters cant or dont experience these things; but am saying that concussions happen in all facets of the game of hockey and I would bet more often to skill or non fighting type guys every season than just enforcers.

I have a problem with all the people coming out of the woodwork who have agenda's in play pertaining to fighting in the game... These are the people who are trying to put blinders on everyone and say there is only one connection in these deaths and thats what job they had in the sport.

This is a huge problem in society in general and doesnt just pertain to fighter in hockey... I read an article shortly after Wade Belak took his life that broke it down simply: Athletes are people too and subject to the same human weaknesses we all face.....

No doubt. I don't see people putting Crosby on suicide watch.

The Belak story really got me because unlike the other 2, there were no public signs of anything wrong with him. In fact everytime you saw him on the ice, even when he was fighting, he had a smile on his face.
