Tailing the Komets

We need a new topic here

So, what do you replace hockey with in the summer?

Me? I sleep once in a while and also have a somewhat normal (ha!) life as long as the team isn't looking for a new coach. Sometimes I even get two whole days off in a row. Then I get bored real easy.

Do not know a topic but went past the new arena for the hounds and it really is something. It will be a state of the art facility. Also if you have to go to Chicago avoid the Dan Ryan at all possible...Blake take a vacation I did went fishing up in Minn. no internet, phone, and only got 1 tv station...priceless...

Which of the Illinois teams will have dead-end arena (by that I mean no or minimal seating, like Quad City)?

I watched a little of the NHL draft on OLN yesterday.

Now that the playoffs are over, maybe some of those IDIOT ESPN commentators will shut up about the NHL moving to OLN. Am I mistaken, or didn't ESPN drop its contract to cover NHL games?

In addition to this overdose of soccer (granted it's the World Cup, but I'm not interested), we're now subjected to PAINTBALL on ESPN. COME ON!!! At least CFL games would be interesting.

One last hockey note. Has anyone checked out the Anaheim Ducks (no longer "Mighty"), their new logo and uniforms? HIDEOUS.

Jeff, from what I saw of the two new arenas....both of them have the "U" shaped or dead end seating configuration. However, both buildings look like they will be very nice additions to the UHL. I just hope that they have better building management than say, Missouri or Adirondack to name a few.

Without hockey......ummmm Ashley and I get to spend our evenings doing other things besides watching hockey?

Seriously sports wise I follow the Pirates and Bluejays and am also a huge CFL fan (big game tonight between the Roughriders and the Lions)
I would love to hear what hobbies my fellow bloggers enjoy, whether it be collecting something, gardening etc?

Well, this summer I play Roller Hockey 2 nights a week. Thursday night at the plex, and Sunday night at Classic City Center in Auburn. We will be taking Jonathan to the MDA clinic this summer. Celebrating both the boys birthdays. JOnathan's bday is July 21, and Blake is Sept 17. Other than that. not really much going on here..

Kathleen and I enjoy watching baseball....mainly Cubs, White Sox and FW Wizards....We'll be going to a Wizards game on Tuesday. Otherwise, I'll be attending my 25th class reunion in July and spending some free time in the pool to unwind....Oh, a trip to Chicagoland in August to visit family and friends....that and having one of my cars restored.

But c'mon Bob, how can you possibly enjoy watching the Cubs this year? And I am speaking as a die hard (die often) Cubs fan here. They are making me ill.

Blake, I know....they were awful today. My wife is the White Sox fan (grew up in Forest Park, IL) and they are losing to the Astro's right now, 6-1. But I do enjoy watching other teams also.

I play tennis 3-4 times a week. Parks and Rec leagues and USTA team tennis league also. If the guy I am playing ticks me off enough, I drop my racket, jump the net, and knock the crap out of him. Wait, maybe that was a dream that I had there...oh well, can't wait until the Komets lace them up and start knocking the crap out of the UHL. Wonder if Enema Man will be at opening night...he could sure knock the crap out of people. Hobbies...well tennis, fishing, watching baseball on tv, playing with my daughter, yard-work, home theater design and electronics, to name a few.

Too little too late...probably they will trade him away....but keep Rusty Dusty...it is time to clean the management house on the Northside starting with Andy Mcphail, Jim Hendry, Dusty "the Lizard" Baker, all the way down through the minor league system and the scouts. Some have talked about Mark Cuban buying the team..it is only a rumor, but at least he would back the team and make sure that the right people were putting this franchise on top for a change. It is a shame the Cubs aren't contending for Championships every year. It actually is a crime.

Since I live near Lima, OH and the travel back and forth during the season takes a lot out of us, my wife and I tend to relax during the summer,I try to work on my trading card collection, watch playoff hockey games that I taped. We've got a lot of anniversary parties this summer and my wife and I will be godparents to my nephew Nick on the 16th. We are also trying to go to the TRF parade and spend the day and then watch the fireworks from my mom's house on the 16th.

Greg, being a Godparent is the best. A license to spoil, wind them up and then give them back. Later on it's a little more responsibility, but until age eight or so it's a total blast. Have you heard about the book Letter to a Godchild: Concerning Faith by Reynolds Price? I just ordered it but that might make a nice gift.

We take short weekend trips all summer since we don't have hockey. Big Nascar fans, so at least we have something to watch on the weekends that we're home. LOL Tape it if we're not going to be home. Work outside and just enjoy the nice weather. Wow, WLDE is playing Gary Glitter right now. That always puts me in the mood for hockey. I sit in my office and yell, YOU SUCK!!! LOL I'm the only one here.

I curl up into a small ball and wait till late September rolls around. I hate summer! Then I snap out of it, try to find new and old music for the upcoming season and look forward to another year of Komet Hockey. Other than that, I work my daytime job, play roller hockey once a week, and play the occasional karaoke or dj gig. And dream of another chance to make it to Canada and eat Tim Hortons till I look like Fat B*****d from Austin Powers. Oh wait, I'm already starting to look that way!

I thought your were banned from Tim Horton's???

Wasn't that your photo on the QE401 I saw a few weeks ago?

Matter of fact Molson has your photo on the front doors as well! At least you haven't made it to the milk cartons (yet).

What does everyone think of Port Hurons and Elmiras signings so far. They have been forming thier teams long before the league meetings when it seems like everyone else have been waiting... I like the Flags signings so far, and you never know when Nichols is going to implode and sign someone like Tedstone. By the way over/under on Tedstone at 400lbs. this year...lol...

Bob
Mon, 06/26/2006 - 3:12pm

JR, I say under on Tedstone....but not by a whole lot....I'll be nice and say 365-385.

Bob
Mon, 06/26/2006 - 3:13pm

Err....probably closer to 385.

Attention all CUB fans.

Whenever you talk about (MAJOR LEAGUE) baseball, you are talking about the WHITE SOX.

Also, you must preface the words "White Sox" with the words "WORLD CHAMPION."

I'll take the OVER on Tedstone, plus the number of laps he actually skates in pre-game (not shifts) when/if he comes to Fort Wayne again. The one game he dressed for Flint here two years ago, I'll bet he didn't skate more than 3 laps in pre-game and looked worn out doing that.

I don't doubt the guy can fight, but who is going after him? Make him come after you first.

In response to your first question, if Port Huron can sign Daigle, that could mean another 10-15 wins right there. Hay was a good bad-team goalie, but when he's on, Daigle is capable of winning games all by himself.

Elmira should be much better with Beau on their team.

Tedstone is a putz! I'll take the over.
