Tailing the Komets

What Al had to say

``It was a great win for us. They really stormed us in the second peirod. We took too many penalties and gave them some momentum. We went into the third with 20 mijnteus to take a stranglehold in the series. We found a way to get it down with the special teams again.

``Both power play units are scorng. One has three goals an the other two. It's been the difference in the series. Everything else is pretty even. We made a special plan for Bloomington, and it's working so far. I think you have to look at  your opponent and find some weaknesses and exploit those weaknesses.''

I've been critical of Al all season, but he's showing some inginuity in this series.

Another great win and once again Curadeau shows up for the second time this season. Next year put him on the Hodgeman plan and only bring him back for the playoffs.

Okay guys let us keep it up. Let's show them that we can do it. People talked about how the Komets were no good. WE can win this if everyone on the team pulls together. Come on fans let us pack the coliseum and show are support. Let's do better on screaming for our team not like bloomington fans.

GO KOMETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Would love to see a huge crowd Wed. night but that just will not happen. Its a week night plus the attendance for first round games here is always VERY low. Lets get this win guys!!

What an awesome weekend for the Komets! Wish I could be there for at least one playoff game at the Coliseum.

But we are listening here in Texas.......I am sure you can hear us...lol!

We helped cheer on the Komets when they were in Shreveport........will help them on Wednesday night! GO K's!

k's up 2-0 on Bloomy. Huh, who da thunk it. Not me. But bloomy is a former ihl2 team with this being there first year in the playoffs.

And guess what the 500 fans that went to Bloomington don't want to hear it. Guess what...We are going to fill MC on Wednesday night. Wow, this is a magical run this year...I don't care what Mr. Snuff-a-negative says :)

He made a solid statement, KW. Curds was TERRIBLE during the regular season and has looked great during the playoffs so far. Not something worth getting in a twist over

With gas prices rising, I wouldn't mind some extra pocket-change. KW, want to put $100 on whether or not the Coliseum is full on Wednesday night? It'd be great if it was, but I have yet to go to an opening round Wednesday night game where it happens, especially on Spring Break.

Well you'd better check it out then because there are already 6500 seats out and it's only Tuesday. And far as negatives go Curdy has always stepped it up in the playoffs. Blake had some great stats on that. I'm just sick of people who can't find anything positive to say. Let me tell you after going to Bloomy with 500 POSITIVE fans it was great to see such support. I believe they out weigh the couple of negative posters on this board.

From the other blog:

The Komets have sold over 5,800 tickets for Wednesday's game against the Bloomington PrairieThunder and are expecting in the neighborhood of 6,600 fans by game time.

That's very good for a Wednesday game.

The Komets have a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five first-round series.

RunningKomet

So, taking out the 3,500 season ticket holders that often don't show, but still get counted, inflating the number, you are EXTREMELY far from us getting to "fill the MC". I'm more than willing to go ahead with the bet if you are that it's not full.

(I have a live one on the line here! Watch me reel it in.)

Blake Sebring
Tue, 04/05/2011 - 8:12am

actually, the 3,500 season tickets still count for the first two playoff games. I've also got a stat for tomorrow's notebook that over their last 10 weekday playoff games, not counting title-clinching games, the Komets are averaging about 6,000 fans for those games. That's amazing considering it's still better than 90 percent of all minor league teams do on regular-season weekend games.

Positive post.

Mr Snufflupugus
Tue, 04/05/2011 - 8:51am

Now that I got my positive post out of the way, on with my regularly scheduled programming.

How do you know whether or not I made the trip? How do you know if I went alone or was one of the Komet 500?

When a bird assumes that just because a window is clear he can fly through it that tends to lead to a headache for the bird.

I wonder if the Komet 500 will also be following the team to Texas or wherever they end up if they win this series? It is because of the Komet 500 that I hope and believe that the team returns to some sort of regional league in the future. The ability for the fan base to travel to other cities is good for every team in a minor league. To only be able to rely on a home team gate puts a hurt on the walk up numbers in many cities.

It has been a great run..if you can call 2 games a run. Perhaps a jog? A brisk walk? How about a 3 legged skip race?

Your friendly elephant signing off. Cheers!

Seeing that the K's had a really good weekend and it's spring break with 4 dollar gas I bet there will be nearly 7 thousand in attendance. I you have season tix RK you know that there is an extra charge for playoff tickets, they did not come as part of the package. So as a season ticket holder I'm inclined to go, especially since there is a good chance they will clinch the thing Wednesday. Logic seems to overwhelm some but don't worry folks I will be here all night.

RunningKomet
Tue, 04/05/2011 - 9:54am

I don't know that it's an "extra charge" since part of my season tickets were supposedly covered when there league decided to play less games in the season. I know that instead of paying $100 (or so) the past few years, I was charged $68 this year. I don't see it as extra since I keep my same seats, I just see it as paying at different times of the year, but still consider it part of my season tickets price.

I'll also be there, I'm just saying the place won't be full. I wish it was, I enjoy the games much more when it is, but I can almost count on having the seats around me open to put my jacket in and the seats in front of me open so I can stretch my legs out. I'm hoping for a sellout, just not holding my breath.

Also, I did not make the trip to Bloomington. I was a bad Ks fan. I was in Houston following the Bulldogs, so going to Texas is not out of my realm when it comes to traveling. It'd probably depend on which Ks team makes the trip also. I'm not wanting to go down there to watch the November/December Ks. Unfortunately, I ended up watching a different Butler team last night than I saw for most of March :/

KW, you haven't been following the Komets very long have you? I don't mean that as a put down or anything like that, just an honest question. The 1st few rounds of the playoffs always draw poorly...always. Even if you think it's a big game and Fort Wayne fans should pack the arena, they won't. You'll have the diehards there and it will be louder than a sell out tho. It's not being negative it's being realistic.

I was in Bloomington this weekend as well, does that mean my posts hold more water?

Tue, 04/05/2011 - 10:42am

I can say for sure that i know that 500 or more fans will be there Wed night to support whatever team shows up, cause there is only one team, and thats Our Fort Wayne KOMETS!!! LETS GO KOMETS!!!!!

GM: The Coliseum is half-full, not half-empty. Hahaahaha! I've heard from people that the numbers are a little higher than usual for a Wednesday game, but I'm still saying no sellout. Hope I'm wrong.

Curdy had two good games, put his number in the rafters. I'll be honest, I don't really care who scores, as long as we end up with more in the net than Bloomy by the end of the night.

It was fun hearing Rat and Phillips on the radio during the drive yesterday. The new assistant coach didn't make his usual appearance.

Keep up the winning tonight, guys. GO KOMETS!
