Tailing the Komets

What Al Sims had to say

I think we got beat in every facet of the game out there. We've got some work to do this week.

``You high stick people in the face, you're going to get a penalty. I couldn't really see Brandon's second penalty in the near corner here, but Frankie's penalty, I don't know about interference, but you know, we shot outselves in the foot. We certainly can't blame the referee. I thought he called an OK game.

l; font-size: x-small;">I think they showed why they are the best team in that league, for sure. They are well coached, and I thought their team played really well and played their systems well. They really had us bottled up in the neutral zone where all we could really do was dump it in and try to get it back, and our power play and penalty kill need work. There's no doubt about it. We haven't had enough time yet. Our power play has to get better and so does our penalty killing. That will happen with time.

Bouch I thought played well. He kept us in it at 2-0 and gave us an opportunity to get a goal, but we had three breakaways. He's a very tough goalie to deke, and all three guys tried to deke him. He played outstanding. When their team needed the save, he made huge saves for them.

Well said, Coach.

Welcome to real hockey, Ft Wayne...

Coach Sims is right on... NHL rules and the ref called a good game. Couple pieces away from a solid unit; but it may take some tough decisions...

I liked the pace and look forward to getting to as many games as work allows...

I had a great time at the game. Komets looked silly and WAY out matched but it was great to see a quality hockey team in Fort Wayne that wasn't wearing orange and black. The Rush looked like they've been playing together for months and their goalie was excellent!

I hope this loss helps bring Komet Nation down a few pegs off of their high horse.

I thought Rapid City's style was just cleaner. They moved the puck quickly, didn't get caught chasing around and rarely let the Komets get to a rebound. The Rush played outstanding positional hockey and never let themselves get in too much trouble, and when they did Battochio erased every mistake. Well-coached, disciplined and smart. They played great road hockey.

It sure would be fun to see these teams play more than twice.

I agree. I'd love to see them play again later down the line in late Jan or Feb and see how they match up then. If Rapid City is just an example of the quality of hockey we'll get in the CHL then I am excited. I know they're the defending champs but I hope the other teams are right up there with them.

The Rush played a system that has been fine tuned to an NHL called game...

The K's have to realize that they cant tackle people at the blueline and get away with it this season... Have to move your feet. No floating this season, loved the pace!

Boy, that left alot to be desired. The K's will be fine, but they got ALOT of work to do

komets were way outmatched the whole game. They looked like they were stuck in the ihl. They could not handle Rapid Cities speed and good positional play. If the rest of the league is as fast as Rapid City is then I don't see the komets winning very many games. The Frankes just got knocked off their high horse and brought back to reality. I may go to a few more games this season anyway.

Hello, My name is Hit Somebody!!!.....I am new to this CHL thing, and I have a few points.

1) This was game #1
2) Rapid City just came onto our ice, ignored the bigtime atmosphere, and stuck it to us, professionally, and acted like they had done this before and would do it again as they went about their business and went back to their locker-room after the game.
3) The speed that Rapid City played with, and it was controlled speed, was amazing to me. The Komets had no answer to the speed, and late in the game I noticed D-Men just gave up trying to even skate with them.
4) We have several guys that cannot play at that level.
5) Petrosso and Naurato are both going to be fun to watch this year....hope whoever ends up being paired with them helps them get the puck around the net.
6) The CHL game, (after watching one game, LOL), seems to be a moving game with guys flying out of the zone and flying into the zone, and guys don't clutch, hold, or grab, they hit you.
7) The Komets will be just fine this year, it was game #1, and Columbus is going to send us some guys that can skate at this level, and we have Evansville, Dayton, Bloomington, and Quad City on our schedule more than 4/5 of the season, maybe more.
8) I like Tyler Fletcher's speed and size. Ward did not impress me at all tonight as the Rush ran over him all night long, and he kept getting thrown out of the face-off circle.
9) This league is for real, and the Rush were for real.
10) Our next home game is in a month.....wow.

I love how people are saying that Komets got knocked down a few levels after this game. (sarcasm) We are in a different league, we knew it would be faster, we knew the teams would be better. The IHL teams merged to the CHL all teams agreed to do this knowing what the CHL had. So how did they get knocked down a few levels by losing? How did the Frankes get knocked off their high horse tonight? I dont think anyone thought we would dominate this league like we did the last 3 seasons of the IHL. BTW it was the first game people! Im disappointed that the K's lost, but i loved the game tonight. I like the faster play and the checking and hitting. Heck even Cohn predicted the K's would lose 5-1 well he was close. Even if you lose every game i will still be right behind the FRANKES and the KOMETS cheering. The moved to a diff league and you people still arnt happy with them.

What would make you happy? As it stands right now it seems nothing they can do will make everyone happy! We got to the AHL and you will complain about the prices and all the call-ups. Not to mention if we lose the home opener you will still say that the Frankes got knocked off the high horse A True Hockey Fan. Dont worry about going to anymore games this season as you never know THEY MIGHT LOSE!

Don't think it knocks the Komets/Frankes down a few pegs but I hope it brings our fan base to reality, I can not stand 95% of our fan base because they are so cocky.

I noticed how much better the passing was on the part of RC. It was the entire game, but it especially showed halfway through the second period and beyond.

Fighters under the rules of this league seem to be worth about as much as a fart in a windstorm.

I dont think the Frankes or the fans mind the loss. Fort Wayne just makes hockey fun, remember??

Blake, can you post a better picture of the Jersey? Is this our new home jersey?

The overall speed in this league is amazing....I noticed that right off the opening faceoff. I have not seen that many hits into the glass in years. If you want to slow or stop someone, then you better hit them into the boards, no more of the hooking, tripping, etc.

That first penalty Guy took for hooking is a good example...the referee saw it and raised his arm. Last year, it might not have been called.

True, they lost an Opening Night game, but the sun rose again, it's not the end of the world. Next week's road trip couldn't come at a better time.

Uh Oh!

Guy and PC looked slow.

Frankie and Warner need to move to forward if they are going to be that far out of position.

one game, new league new players. all of you negative nellies are having a field day. my god, its one game people! we lost. i must have forgotten our unbeaten season last year. we played their best team and just maybe they were better than us. doesnt mean the rest of the chl is better than us. high horses and cocky?? maybe that high horse is what has kept hockey in the fort and maybe that cockiness is what leads us to the top attendance and souvineer sales in all of minor hockey. geez, one game for a team that historicaly never gets moving until christmas time. yu guys are priceless. goodbye and good ridence. sorry superfan, i cant take these rookie experts anymore. this is suppose to be fun but now its doomsday every day.

Supposed to be fun.....What is fun about getting your butts whipped for 60 minutes?????

Our team was flat out stomped. Between a completely slow defense and 0 puck control in the neutral zone, we had no chance from the get go. The only thing that kept us from losing 8 or 9 to 0 is Nick playing great between the pipes and Leo diving and sacrificing his body to block shots in game 1 of the regular season.

The only positives I can take from this game are the play of Patrosso and Schrock. They kept up with the speed of the game and didn't panic when the pressure hit them.

I can only hope that Columbus sends us some guys that can keep up with the pace of the CHL cause quite frankly(or Franke-ly) there are about 8-10 guys on the team that don't belong in this league. You can say it was just one game and that life will go on tomorrow and chemistry and what not, but you can't teach speed and it won't change as the season goes on. Yeah, we will beat the Bloomingtons and Daytons and we play a majority of our games against them but in the end if we don't adjust, we will just get swept in the playoffs by a faster CHL team.

I forgot merchandise sales and top attendance wins championships....

Cant wait until X-mas to get going this year. All those bad habits need to go bye, bye if we want to be competitive in the CHL...

You can be happy that we just have a team;but I want them to be competitive...

I cant say that I will miss you Chukitt, I cant remember the last time you actually shared an opinion with the blog or added to the conversation... Just fly in and bash others for thiers.

Hit, Yes, Mr. Hextall was at the game...so was Duane Lewis. I did briefly speak to Hextall after the game, essentially to exchange greetings. Hextall also spoke to Cescon in the hallway before talking to me.

Mr. Snufflupugus, It was nice to see you again last night. I hope you enjoyed the game, despite the results.

Mightbite, I'm a friend of Wendy, and I thought she did a wonderful job with the GOTW interviews, and was disappointed when she told me she was let go right before the playoffs.
