Great piece. I believe you capture the essence of Colin Chaulk. If you have never met him or seen him work on the ice then you don't know these things. I can tell you that all of it is true without going into too much detail I know from some personal experience. He is a class act and arguably the best AA hockey player out there.

Having played with Colin a few times just before training camp opens I can second the thoughts shared in the article. He has a way, a style, a commitment that is infectious to those playing with him. He is not the saviour. However, he is truly blessed with the ability to "bring out the best" in those he is teaching and or playing with. He will help to remind his teammates of their abilities and their responsibilities. I am happy on many levels that he is back. I look forward to seeing his determination as the season goes forward. I look forward to seeing this puzzle called the "Fort Wayne Komets" begin to come together even more as the days and weeks pass by.

Colin Chaulk has the God-given ability to make everyone on the ice better. He commands and receives the respect of his teammates on and off the ice. He receives more than his share of attention from the opposing team when he is on the ice. How can this be anything else but good?

I'm looking forward to watching him again on Coliseum ice. I am hoping that he keeps his stick down and the number of shots on goal high.

"Most likely it will be when the Quad City Mallards are heading up ice on a rush"

I hope he's yelling if QC has the puck tonight...Trying to beat 1 team is hard enough as it is but 2?

Crap! Wrote Colin Chaulk's column last week when he was supposed to play on New Year's Eve against Quad City. Then Colin Lister died... and some other things.

I was lucky to meet Chaulk a couple of times when he lived a couple houses down from some friends of mine. He seems like a really great guy and his talents on the ice speak for himself. I can't wait to see him play again and I'm thankful to see him back in orange and black. GO KOMETS!!

Great article Blake. Its the kind of insightful and encouraging story that all Komets fans should appreciate. Its been a season of frustration with a few bright spots and I think the Komets and their owners have done whats needed to try and put a winner on the ice. Everyone has been hoping for a leader to emerge and no one did and now they have one in Chaulk. They tried but it wasn't working. I would hope the other players on the team understand that this is a blessing and not a curse to name Chaulk the captain before his first game back. The guy knows what it takes to do the job right, play hard and win. Other blogs people are questioning naming Chaulk captain after screaming all year that this team needed a leader. Now they have one and they still aren't happy. Lets all remember that Chaulk is not a saviour. He's a leader. He can't do it alone. Everyone has to step up and do their thing and get it done, including the fans.
I for one will be at the game tonight and am looking forward to a loud and rowdy crowd. Go KOMETS!!!

Less than 3 hours from now the best player to don a Komets jersey in decades will be back in orange and black to lead our boys once again. How can anyone question his right to wear the "C" for this team? Chaulker has proven himself over the past 10 years and has faced adversity and emerged each and every time a better player for it. He has been sorely missed and I, for one, can't wait to see him again. Go Chaulker, and Go K's!!!

If you haven't read the rantings coming out of Dayton, take a look at http://www.daytondailynews.com/dayton-sports/hockey/gems-plotting-revenge-against-komets-1047559.html . One would only hope that this is just a marketing ploy. It's in bad taste, and it shows poor sportsmanship no matter how you look at it. (League review of this perhaps?) Anyone going to the Dayton game Saturday, Komet players included, should be prepared.

Good article Blake, Colin will definetly be the "LEADER" they needed. Will do everything we need as a force in the locker room. SO LET'S GO KOMETS!!!
