Tailing the Komets

What coach had to say

We were bad. It's right between the ears. Did we look like our team tonight?

We had a great week of practice working on our systems and then come gametime you barely see them.

I don't know how anybody can have an effective game when it's one penalty after the next. Three power plays in a row for them, and then three power plays in a row for us. It's like your tongue is still dragging on the ice from the penalty kills to get on the power play. How are you supposed to make anything of your power play when you've been on the ice for six minutes straight?

It would be nice if we didn't put ourselves in that position. At the start of the game we're not ready so we're not skating so we have to hook people and hold people and trip people. I just thought we were bad.

ON FRENCHY: It certainly wasn't his fault tonight. That's why I get irritated when it's this team and it's a gimme. We're not a set of superstars that can just go out there and win on our talent. We win with focus and discipline and execution. That's not to say there's not some skill out there because there is, but if you don't do the things to put yourself in position to showcase your skills for your skill to come out, we're not a team that can go out there and create. That's what happened tonight. We scored a goal early in the game...

It's just disappointing. I just hope that we bounce back tomorrow with a better effort. We killed penalties great. We took penalties all night long and we killed them off. There's a highlight, a positive. Some guys just were awful and didn't help the cause. That's what hockey is. One guy's out there not helping the cause, the whole thing breaks down.

Alot of guys looked pretty invisible tonight. The team as a whole didn't skate hard. Looked almost like they felt they could pull off the win anytime they wanted. Komets didn't back off the penalties and it hurt the whole game. QC on the other hand worked hard, and it paid off.
On the upside has Frenchy had one off game yet? I've seen maybe 2 or 3 bad goals this season, but St. Pierre is just plain awesome. It's great to see Richardson get a few goals. I've been very impressed with him and his hustle. I'm a big fan of his.

I'm hoping you know the answer to this Blake. Why is it that when a player gets called for a dive, the opposing player also gets called for a trip or whatever was embellished? If I were a ref I'd want to call only the unsportsmanlike...

Matt, don't ask that question, they will rip you apart...lol!

I still don't think, if it is called right, there should be two calls at once. Call the trip or the dive but not both!

Matt

I'm not saying anything against refs, I just don't understand the rule clearly I guess. And the penalty I'm referring is one that I think should've been on only Fort Wayne not QC.

Can I start bashing Dumb-ka-witz yet?

Is it just me or is the only guy that is always pointing at his teammates when a goal get scored?

Matt

oh wow he had an AWFUL game last night...as bad as the whole team played, he stood out as especially bad

I thought bashing players was a sin on here...you can't get away with that someone could get mad LOL

Domber is one of my favorite players on the team....last night just was not the Komets night...I try not to bash players but that was the first game I've been to this year where they played like that and it's like, whoa so they aren't superhuman on home ice after all. Every team and player is going to have days like that though so hopefully that's out of the way for a long time

Matt, the reason that both are called is because they truly are two different rules. It used to be that the only way you were going to get a hooking call is if you dove chin first followed by a set of jumping jacks down the ice. This is no longer the case. The officials are calling the hook, even if you don't go down. So why make a mochery of the game by diving? That being said, just because you dive doesn't absolve the "hooker" from his penalty. You still have to call the hook but you also send a message to the guy taking the dive that showing up the officials will not be tolerated.

That question is really starten too Irk me....How hard is it too understand that you can have those two penilites called at once....We've only had hockey in this town for 55 years. Like the Trip and the Dive tonight...YES there was a trip...it was blaneted and righ in front of the reff..but Matt...Fell too the ice like somoene shot him in his league and he was flopping his arms in the air before he hit the ice...YOu have too call that...if you don't your gonna have guys floppen around all night when someone barely hits the guy.

Okay kids. My feeling on why the the Komets lost the game is because they deserved to lose that game. Quad City has improved but there was no reason for the level of play the kmets put forth on the ice last night.
About the only person I can pick out last night who played WELL was Richardson. Morency had what i would consider his normal game. And here too noone is saying anything on Larocque throwing down on Radoslovich. I thought that was what Komets fans have been looking for for a long time.

I don't know if nyone saw the boxscore for the Rockford Flint game, but apparently David Frawley fought Big Snake.

I was entertained, you?

Jason Tapp made some amazing saves.

I liked the fire I seen last night particularly in the second period.

Put a body on Parsons please. I think he has 5 or 6 goals against us this year.

Other than that......lets regroup tonight and see what happens.

I was entertained for a while, until the K's lost the lead.

BTW Scoops, you've got a cannon for an are.

Ok I'm gonna say this about Larocque and feel free to comment on it but yes I was very impressed with Larocque last night but then again where has that been the past how many games...I hope it continues...I'd like to see that kind of hitting every night but that's just me. I'm not saying that there should be a fight every night because I get more entertainment out of the guys just finishing their checks instead of just tapping each other...to me fights just take you out of the game for 5 minutes why not just hit hard and not get the penalty? anyway entertaining game last night lets get them hogs tonight boys...GO KOMETS!!!!

This is the first time in a month that Mario has been relatively healthy. He just kept playing through it.

Or let's put it this way, this is the first time in two months I haven't seen Mario wearing at least three ice packs after every game.

Heather
Sat, 12/02/2006 - 10:37am

I'm sure they all have ice packs on after the game. They play hard and take hard hits and get banged around a lot. I'm sure Frenchy was hurting bad last night. That was horrible or it looked like it from where I was sitting.

Heather
Sat, 12/02/2006 - 10:40am

I never said he wasn't hurting I just thought that he was supposed to be this big tough enforcer and last night we were seeing some of that and that's definitely a good thing as long as he's feeling healthy enough to do it. Not that I don't appreciate his offensive skills because those are great and I like a player who can do both.

The Rock laid the smack down. Thats what I've been talking about. I think KSP may have acted it up a little. How bout Pascal putting Tapp on his can near the QC bench? Stauffecher didn't want any part of Morency. I was more entertained by that loss than I have been by many of the wins this year.

Heather
Sat, 12/02/2006 - 10:54am

I'll agree to that JM and I'm sure KSP was buying some time but nonetheless it looked horrible. LOL The Rock laid the smack down...nice... he is my favorite wrestler turned actor lol so that always makes me smile lol

Heather, I didn't take it that you were saying that at all. Let's just say that only very recently has Mario been healthy enough to do that and leave it at that. And no, not every one wears ice packs after games. In fact, most do not.

Frenchy seemed and said he was OK after the game last night, but that looked really bad so we'll have to see how he felt today after he woke up.

Someone could also turn it around and hypothosize that if Mario had not been in the penalty box for 20 minutes last night the Komets might have scored enough to win the game. It's kind of an either/or situation. It's good that he stepped up, but do the Komets really want their leading scorer to be sitting out? That's a tough one.

Heather
Sat, 12/02/2006 - 11:25am

I would have liked to asked Kiyaga if he really would've fought that guy. They were pushing each other around and I thought for sure they were gonna drop the gloves.

Heather
Sat, 12/02/2006 - 11:29am

I don't really know if they could've won the game last night had Mario not been in the box. The whole team wasn't there to win it so I don't think that would've made much of a difference. That's my opinion though.

Did any listen to Bob Chases interview with Pascal last night?

I am trying to remember the name of Pascals brothers rock band name? Anyone know it?

It was 50 something?
