Tailing the Komets

What did you think?

Did you like the new goal song? (I'm already tired of it. LOL). How about everything else? I thought the opening ceremonies stuff was good as usual, with something new from Icy.

It's been a long time since the Komets have had a defenseman as strong as Mario Larocque. He and Dupuis together might be the most physically strong pairing in the  UHL. J.C. Ruid definitely has the longest reach in the league. I thought Goodwin might have been the Komets' best player as far as all-around game.

The Komets looked much better as far as systems, but that might be in part because QC just stinks right now. The Mallards' defense is horrible, and the forwards aren't getting back much to help. There's way too much talent on this team for this to be happening. Jason Tapp made some amazing saves, but did you notice there was no one around to help him out on rebounds? The Komets were getting great scoring chances.

As for the officiating? Has anybody ever considered that the players just aren't paying attention? Coming into the game the Komets had had 12 power plays compared to their opponents' 20. The same thing happened in the first and second period again Saturday. That's three different refs. It might be time to take a peak in the mirror.

Wasn't it nice to see Eddie Long back again?

The new goal song has potential, but I agree with an earlier post that it was not loud or clear emough. I think it could be good though. And I did notice that is the song ICY was trying to get everyone into in the opening. Not to many people bit on it though.

Did not understand the "goal" song. Ole' Ole' was better than what was played last night.

Penalty calls need to be more consistant! Things would not get out of control if called consistantly. (not that I mind, I like a good fight)Aweful officiating!

Does anyone like the warm up sweaters? Thouth I was watch the Flint Generals warm up. Aweful colors! I know it is Napa colors but the jeresys need to have more Orange and Black.

Did it seem like "Domber" was out on the ice every other shift?

Few notes:
All the penalties will put a drag on games for fans if it continues. I'm not saying who is to blame: refs, players, the league...but I hope this doesn't continue. Watching a powerplay system or counting the seconds in a penalty kill is not fun when that's what the whole game consists of.

Good score for a home opener!

I've got alot of favorites on this year's Komet team.

With the players we have that can shoot, the Komets may end up having the best PP in the league

Rudenko is particulary fun to watch when on the ice.

The goal song should be fine when people have time to warm up to it. Although (sitting in 208 anyway) it was extremely hard to hear. It took me until about the 5th goal to even know what was being played. It sounded muddy and not very loud where I was sitting.

Go Komets!

I agree. The sound system in the arena is hard to hear. I was sitting in 220 row 18 and very hard to hear. I am normally in 226 & it is always hard to hear there too. I still could not tell you what song they played.

What is the name of the song?

If Richardson's penalty was for his hit on Yoder along the boards at the top of the faceoff circle, it WAS a penalty.

My question is: What if Richardson had scored in the interim between the hit and the call?

What do you call then?

A few more notes:

First period didn't have that much hitting from the Komets. The second and third period did.

Hukalo is a very talented skater. It looks like he is almost unsure of himself sometimes, however. He has a playmaker mentality I think and second guesses himself to shoot. All in all I was impressed with his play during the game.

I was talking to a buddy last night about the game and how different the team looks from last year. A few things I agreed with him on were:

This team plays aggressively. They push the action as opposed to last year when the Komets ALWAYS adjusted to the other team. This year's team acts where last year's team would react.

Larocque is going to kill someone out there this season. What a great pickup he was. He has bigger hits than anyone I've seen in a looong time. Absolutely creams the other guy.

Great effort all around last night. I liked the fact they got to loose pucks and really charged the net well.

Got to get more disaplined.

The goal song is Joe Satriani "Crowd Chant". Its the same song Icy came out to in the pre-game. There is a chant in the song and that is our opportunity to get involved in the song. The problems are most people don't know the song and you cannot hear the chant on the song system we have. It certainly has potential and if we could get sound fixed....and 7000 people doing the "oh's" then RR2 can take the dirt nap...forever.

I agree totally scoops. The song was great and has huge potential. The fans sure seemed to me to be eating it up big time. Dancing, clapping, and cheering. Ole was the biggest disappointment that we've ever had. To even compare that song to it last night is ludricous. Everybody at our end loved it.

It may be a great song, but if it's unclear on the sound system, what good is it? I suspect most fans weren't into the song as much as they were into the first home game and a big win.

I have to disagree with a lot of ou on the Rudenko thing, first of all the hit took only looked bad because he got hit along the bench, if got hit along the boards i doubt it would have looked as bad. And the concensus I see is that Komet fans want playeers to get revenge and then take 5 min. majors that put the Komets in a short handed position.

I don't mind players trying to get even, but they have to think about a little more if they can. Rudenko had the chance ti skate away, check the number and get even later that might have only gotten a two min penalty, instead he skates right over and deliberately slams a guy into the boards. Not the way I wouyld like the komets to stick up for themselves.

Greg, I think you are putting words into the fans mouths. I think they like the fact that a player will stick up for himself, but I don't think they all want revenge that ends up in a 5 min major. Rudenko should have chosen a a different time and not gotten the guy the way he did, and I don't believe he intended to get a 5 min major. What I want and I believe most fans want is not to get man handled by the other teams and especially in our house like we did last season too many times to count.

Greg

There not saying that it was wrong though and that's what gets me. Rudenko got hit didn't like and crushed a man into the boards. Frankly he got the penalty he deserved and I could see being suspened for it.

I'd like somoen to actualy come out (other than me) and say that was a bone head thing for Rudenko to do and so far no one's said that. That bothers me.

Hawthorne got the call on him right I could care less about what happen afterward because that was a team defending on of it's own. The fact that only MacIntyre got a 5 and no one else got anything doesn't bother me. MacItyre gained a lot of respect from me with that more than Rudenko taking a stupid penalty.

If you want to get even, square up on the guy and challange him legally or hit him cleanlly. And I think the hit on Rudneko was okay, a little late and may have warranted a interference call but that's it. It looked bad because it happend around the bech.

Greg - you will have a tough time getting many people to agree with you on this one. While nobody wishes to see a komet player act like a goon, at the same time every komet fan thinks back to the past few seasons when other teams could really take it out on us.. The crowd saw more than a "cheap shot" in Rudenko's hit. They saw a komet player show some fire and emotion, and stand up for himself.. would we all like to see players taking 5 minute majors every game? heck no... But i would rather have 1 of those from time to time rather then watching us get run out of our own house every game..

Otten was trying to do the same thing to us that teams did in years past. He had some fire and emotion. Wanted to shake the game up and fire up his team. His hit was dirty as well. (opinion of most people i have heard).. Last year Otten may have gained some momentum off that, and made a skater or 2 look around for a hit next time.. Rudenko thought he took a cheap shot and was not gonna take it. Good for him..

Judging by the cheers in the crowd after the play i wish you luck in your search for support in the Rudenko hit... Cheap hit? yes it was. (kind of). Feel good to see a komets player stand up? yes it did..

couldnt have said it better myself komets123. the hit on rudenko wasnt that bad but because it was by the boards, it had the potential to be a boarding resulting in injury. i think rudenko saw it comming and moved a little so the hit didnt look so bad, but rudenko knew the intent was there. glad he stuck up for himself, he should have just picked his spot and then took the guy out with him, but then again, thats why these guuys are in this league, bad decisions will do that just as much as lesser developed skills.. go komets!!

The whole thing is a bit Rudenkolous if you ask me. The Komet's needed to send a message last night that this version of the K's won't be cheap-shot targets like the teams over the past 6 years. I don't like them taking gamers and 5 minute penalties either. But I also think that the officiating must call things both ways. How can McIntyre jump into that throwing punches and not get a stiffer penalty? How can Tapp leave the crease to dance with a forward, and not get any penalty? The message was sent, although not well enough due to the awful officiating that overshadowed what should have been a great night of hockey.

I do seem to be thinking that K's fans actually liked what Rudenko did and that is the wrong assement (expect from iluvhockey who said they applauded (sp) when Rudenko made the hit), the thing that is getting me is that it was a cheap shot pure and simple, everyone saw it and everyone knew what had happened. There's a difference of opinions on the hit Otten gave to Rudenko. I don't think it was bad at all and chuckitt didn't think it looked bad.

I don't mind that Rudenko didn't like the hit against him. I don't even mind that he wanted to do something about it. I mind that he did it in the wrong games and what most people here don't seem to realize (that's what I'm gathering by the lack of it being stated) is that not only did he give the Mallards a 5 min PP to work with, he took himself out of the game. Now there's standing up for yourself then there's being stupid and in that case it was stupid. Luckily the Mallards weren't that good Saturday night and the K's had the game pretty well in hand. Had they played a tougher team and I bet the outcome is different.

I liked the pay back hit Otten knew the shot was bad when he did it now next time when they come back they know well man the Komets get you back instead of like when Pulskia (Spelling) would say now get them back later and get your butts kicked and let them out work you call the gamer boith ways and you don't have t worry about stuff BTW Tapp would of got beat down that is why he did not skate over to St. Perrie he knows lol very good game nice to see a coach that gets involved

I'm not saying that Rudenko's hit was a good one, I'm just saying that I agreed that he should not let Otten walk all over him. Too many times in the past teams come in here and just beat the tar out of us and we never showed any spunk. I didn't like the 5 minute penalty, but I have to agree with 123 and sniper. I just want them to stand up for themselves and their teammates and that's what they did Saturday night. Everybody was applauding around us when Rudenko made the hit, because they are so tired of seeing calls not being made and players getting slammed all the time. People are sick to death of the officiating in this league and have heard many people say that they don't like to come any more because of the officiating. I'm hoping that the play Saturday night brought some people back. Granted the officiating was questionable at times, but what a good looking team. What more can you say?? 6 PP Goals in 1 game??? That's just amazing. Give them a chance. Let them settle down. It was the home opener and Ft Wayne fans put a lot of pressure on the players. I applaud the whole team for an excellent job. Looking forward to this weekend already.
