Let's leave the coach, owner, player bashing to a minimum. We've pretty much said all that can be said and it's obvious that debate can't be advanced yet.
So pick your topic.

The Danbury/Kalamazoo series!
I'm heading out to Danbury with some friends of mine from Kalamazoo. I'm excited to go out there and cover the Wings (and the series) for PHN.
I'm up for anything..
have fun FWKRTJ...
go Wings
I wanna talk about me!
Who are your top 3 favorite Komets tems of all time and why?
Who were the three best fighters for the Komets of all time?
Ok, I wanna talk about who the heck designed the roads in Fort Wayne??
No blinking red light for turns and what is up with those cement medians instead of middle turn lanes so I don't have to drive a mile out of my way just to turn into a gas station??
During my years in Fort Wayne, that really was my only complaint about the city.
Tony, you might have opened a can of worms with that! LOL!
Lol. Ok, why?? I never met anyone down there that could explain it to me.
Tony,
where are you talking about..Coliseum Blvd
Tony E. normally those areas you talk about where areas that had accidents daily. Alot of times they are not too far from intersections. I thought you'd say how no-one can find where they are going cause it seems like we have about 2 names for each street in Fort Wayne...lol
Hey Skate: Three of the best fighters for the K's were Dave Norris, Darcy Keating and Mike Penasse. Of course, I hear Fletcher was great, but I wasn't here during his tenure.
How about best K's line ever? My answer would be Laird-McDougall-Dumba. They were a thing of beauty!
Let's talk about if they should change the rule to allow the opposition to check golatenders "outside" the blue area.
I figured it had something to do with accidents. Yes Coloseum, part of Coldwater, Lima etc. The names in town I figured out after awhile.
I guess I could take it a step further and ask, what is up with the numbers for county roads instead of names? This was another thing nobody could tell me. Why don't they give roads real names? I was never real good with numbers/math and when I would get directions to a school that looked like one of those Sodoku puzzles, it was no wonder I didn't end up in Illinois!
Tony E
Not being from Allen County, it always screws me up driving outside of Fort Wayne that every time you change townships, the road names change.
DeKalb County is pretty easy to figure out - the N-S roads are odd numbers, the E-W roads are evens. The only ones you have to watch out for are those ending with A - these are angling roads.
Noble and Steuben counties use a grid system, with N-S and E-W meridian roads - everything else 100, 200 , 250, 300, 350 is based on the mileage distance from that meridian road. That one can be hard to follow.
Teresa, good memory. Don't remember Keating, but I do remember Norris and Penasse. The line with Laird, Dougie, and Dumba was awesome. brings back some good memories. Fletch was a good fighter. I saw him a few times. Had to stop and raise kids. Ddn't get to come as often back then. LOL
And for the record, Robbie Laird is my all-time favorite Komet player (and coach). Go Robo!!!
Best lines, in no particular order:
Anderson, Boudreau, Loach
Laird, McDougal, Dumba (Keating)
Goodwin, Rivard, Dubchak (The FIRST Johnny Goodwin)
MIG line (You spell them)
Best fighters, again in no particular order:
Sean Gagnon (although he may be first)
Purinton
Fletcher
Keating (when pissed)
Fitchner
Favorite teams:
92-93: How they won, who they beat, unexpected sweep of 3 series including NHL-laden San Diego
90-91: Ice Patrol. What a gutsy bunch. Lost in finals to heavily favored Peoria. Down 3-0 in the series and having lost 5 straight (if I remember) to them in the regular season, Komets win game 4 here, go to Peoria and -- somehow -- win (I was there). Fought their hearts out in game 6 here, losing 3-1. I still think if it could gave gone to game 7, they would have found some way to win.
72-73: Champs. Tough team and talented, too. Great team defense.
What about best/worst Komet uniform
and best/worst opponent uniform?
Best Komet uniform - 64-65 Captain Komet uniforms
Worst Komet uniform(s) - 87-88, 88-89 Winnipeg Jets-styled unis or the 67-68, 68-69 unis (the ones with orange, black and green)
Best opponent uniform - any of the 1970s Saginaw Gears uniforms - tangerine and aquamarine or 1970s Flint Generals
Worst opponent uniform - 1979-80 Dayton Gems (the multi-striped ones like the Houston Astros).
Does anybody else have any thoughts?
Jeff, I liked the Indy Ice home and away jerseys from the late 1980's early 1990's...the ones with the black and silver and the outline of the skater. However, the one Indy went to with the polar bear in the city skyline reminded me of a really bad Godzilla movie. Why it reminded me of that, I have no idea! I also liked the logo of the Orlando Solar Bears, but did not like the lettering for the players names on the back. Too hard to read with the large first letter and the rest smaller.
How about the Fort uniform?
MiG line might be best of all time if you take into account plus-minus and the lack of other scorers on that team. They scared the entire IHL.
I've always like Captain Komet.
Fort uni was bad. So was one spelling Komets out in late 50's.
Also like the fireball variations.
Of those, the one with the K in the firesball and omets trailing. Looked like a comet.
Skate,
If the Komets are thinking about tinkering with their uniforms or coming up with an alternate, I'd like to see them go to that 2nd year uniform you mentioned.
The Komet jersey where the name was spelled out in the 50s went to Huntington, WV the next year - they removed Komets and replaced it with a black ? circle and white H for their logo - they made it just one year. Maybe it was the uniforms?
67-68 was the fort jersey - not a bad idea, but can anybody tell me why they added green? The next year, they changed the logo to an orange star with Komets in it and kept the green.
If you wanted to go away from orange and black, I also liked the first big K version the Komets wore in 85-86 - I didn't like the modified ones the next year - they put white nos on a white jersey and blue numbers on a blue jersey.
The last Welker team (89-90) had a good color scheme (HORRENDOUS logo) but it was not a great KOMET uniform. I've got a Kevin Kerr-worn Valentine's Day special uniform from that season.
My mistake - the 67-68 team wore the star with Komets and the 68-69 team wore the fort. Does anybody have any idea why they added green to the orange and black?
Jeff, not only were the logos from the Welker era (the lost years) but that skating teddy bear mascot? was TOTALLY LAME! If I remember wasn't his role to encourage kids to read or something like that?
The Komet orange star uniform was from 1968-69 and the Fort was from 69-70. The koala bear mascot's name was A2D2-Athletes Against Drunk Driving.Idiotic like everything else Welker touched.
I originally thot the Fort logo was supposed to be a rocket. It was a long time b4 I knew it was a Fort.
Amd I am SMART!
I like the orange.
Neal,
Dubchak gave me a stick after a game in which he scored 2 goals in the 60's. I've never forgotten that. When he was in town a few years ago for old timers night and signing autographs, I took the opportunity to thank him.
How about the Icy St Patricks day? I also liked the special cup logo from a couple of years ago
Tony -
Well (I KNOW we're not supposed to say anything like this), but with the current coach it will be a long time before we can use that special cup logo again.
Jeff is definitely the expert when it comes to Komets and IHL uniforms. He's done some amazing work on the subjects.
Jeff and everyone else, how hard would it be to come up pictures of the Komets one-time special uniforms? Is that even possible?
