Tailing the Komets

THIS is what Kent was talking about

The Fort Wayne Komets in conjunction with Xfinity and in preparation for their 60th Anniversary Season are proud to announce a schedule of five LIVE game broadcasts during the 2011-12 Season.  The Komet Home Games will air LIVE on Xfinity Channel 81 and will feature Kent Hormann handling the play-by-play call.  Hormann will be assisted on the broadcasts with Fort Wayne native Bob Gnau who tended goal at the junior hockey level in Fort Wayne and was also a successful high school coach in the area.  All production will originate from the Coliseum combining both Xfinity production cameras and facilities AND, for the first time ever, live broadcast of the Coliseum's internal network of cameras and production facilities.

The games that are scheduled for LIVE BROADCAST have been handpicked by Xfinity and the Komets specifically to highlight traditional special events that occur annually during each season.  The broadcasts will kick-off with the Komets' 60th home opener against the Evansville Icemen on Saturday, October 22nd at 7:30pm and culminate at the last 2011-12 regular season home game against the Dayton Gems on Sunday, March 25th at 5:00pm, which also features the annual Komet Team Awards immediately following the game, which will also be televised for the first time in team history.

In addition to opening night and the regular season finale, Xfinity Channel 81 will also feature LIVE BROADCASTS on New Year's Eve, Saturday, December 31st at 7:30 against Bloomington and Friday, February 10th at 8:00pm as the Komets host the Quad City Mallards for the annual “Comcast Report Card Night” game.  A fifth Komet hockey telecast will be announced at a later date and may include a Komet tilt from the 2012 CHL playoffs in April.

Blake it will be interesting if there is any measurable drop in attendance. Fort Wayne fans are noted at least in reputation for being cheap so it could be interesting. Since they are planning on doing event nights instead of regular games I don't think attendance will drop much.

Already at 7,000 for Saturday which is very good at this time of the week.

Drop in attendance? Except for the final regular season game, they intentionally cherry picked traditional sellouts. It's not like they are show Wednesday night games in January when people would actually rather stay home and watch.

JM I agree they are doing this the right way. I wonder if they had to pay out or make any arrangements with CHL TV to show the games live. I don't think they could have pulled this off when they were in with B2.

Hopefully they sell the building out opening night and ever more important I hope the team has a better opening night performance than they did last season.

Blake,
A little help please. Komet.com press release has New Years Eve in the article but Thanksgiving listed in the schedule at the bottom of the release. Which game will it be???

Thank you Blake. I guess I will have to record them and check them out since I will be setting in my seat for all of these games. I could never trade live hockey for TV.

Amen. They are also going to be available any time from the Xfinity OnDemand.

Blake,
Do you know if they will be available on Xfinity on line. I can't make it to the opening game.

If this was the "big signing" Kent was talking about, then I was wrong.

I am hoping that Mightbite is still correct about a "new" player being here by opening night. I have previously asked him to check with his source to see if anything has changed. I hope he is correct also. The Komets, in my opinion, are one more scorer away from being pretty special.

But, as promised earlier, I want to make sure everyone knows I was wrong about the Kent Hormann announcement.

This is from Comcast:

This will be live, so it will not be available on XFINITYTV.com.

The tape-delayed version of the game will be available on XFINITY On Demand the week following the game.

So this Xfinity Comcast.....is he a D-man or a Forward. I can't find anything on him on HockeyDB. Do you guys know if he scores goals and fights?

I just got my 125th tweet that the Komets are back to full strength and killed off another powerplay. And also that the King of Social Media loves the Pretzels and Cheese at the MC. Gotta love all the Tweets coming from the K's during the game.

And I got the response, it is for those people who aren't at the game...I get it.

I am teasing.

But seriously...couldn't they at least wait until the intemission to unleash 70 tweets? It was annoying hearing everyone's phone Beep in unison.

Even Blakes was twittering us....whoa.....I said twittering...LOL

Along with photographing, videoing and blogging. Sometimes I even get to write. I'm the king of all frustration. Oh, and don't forgt Jr. reporters. I'm waiting until I have to do play-by-play, too.

How about this, don't follow Twitter!!!!

Personally, I very much dislike Twitter.. I do not need to know what players are doing just before the game, just after the game, eating for breakfast the next morning, or what the team has as a promotion for the intermission....lol

Garbage....

Well what can I say. Kent's news on a big signing that would thrill Komet fans isn't at all what I expected. I honestly thought he was talking about a player. So whether or not I assumed wrong I apologize. A TV deal to show some Komet games live never crossed my mind. You see I have Frontier, not Xfinity. So my bad everyone. But hey, only 5 days to go. WooHoo!!!

Another solution, turn the phone off during the game or put it on vibrate at minimum.

Hmm, a phone on vibrate getting 125+ messages could be, ah, I better not go there......except to say Hit might be sitting there smiling a lot.

Sorry, I don't have a choice in the matter. Hit, how can I get my phone to vibrate like that. Might help with some of the, um, frustration.

just a fan
Mon, 10/17/2011 - 10:22pm

Steve... turning phone off doesnt work ... my phone died b4 the game I put it in the car to charge .... after the game in the parking lot I turned phone on ...... it kept going off till after I got home .... and I live by foster park ....... :) turning it off dont STOP it it delays it .........

Just so you know ... dunno if its worse to get em all night in spurts or all at ONE TIME for about 20 mins ....

Yeah, I know. I don't subscribe to Twitter, I'm generally too busy to be bothered or don't want to be bothered. For some it works and that's fine for them, it just isn't for me.
