Tailing the Komets

What Varone said

He was looking at the possibility of signing in Asiago, Italy, but told the Komets he would decide by Aug. 1, so he did.

"I wanted to make sure that I let them know in time, and I didn't want to string anyone along," he said. "I couldn't wait any longer. It's not like there's a bitter taste in my mouth coming back here. I think this team is going to be great."

Asked what he wanted to work on this year, Varone said, "Being more consistent offensively, being accountable in all situations and being not only what coach Sims can count on but also my teammates. I want to bring something to the table every night and make sure that I've done everything I can to help the team win.'

Did he feel like that was a problem last year?

I think it's pretty obvious we need a new topic. Anyone can tell this is the slow time for hockey fans. Look at the bright side, at least there aren't any Komets attacking cab drivers over 15 cents.

RunningKomet- Just to keep you honest the fight was over 20 cents. You get that way when you make millions. You and I will never know what that feels like. I gave up on the first mil and now I am working on the second. My understanding is Blake is on his third. He is hoping for a "blog stimulas"!!!!!!

OK. I am totally confused now. The link on Saidachev indicated he has played 66 pro games. I thought the rookie status lifted when a player reached 68 games. Maybe it is 64 games. Does anyone know for sure? If you know for sure would you please post it for me. I am also still confused about Haun. One person says he is a rookie. Another person says he has passed the 3600 minute plateau. You know, the IHL plays a 76 game schedule and a player loses his rookie status before reaching the 76 game mark? That seems wrong to me and if it is true the IHL Board of Governors should change it. Does anyone out there really know? Does anyone really care except for me?

Blake
Mon, 08/10/2009 - 7:46am

Alan, it's 60 games, and that's what it should be. Haun is NOT a rookie. They do it that way because they don't want teams sitting out players the last two games of the season just so they can retain their rookie rights for the next season, though it still happens anyway. As an example, Luciano Aquino was technically a rookie when he was with the Komets even though he was in his third pro season and had already played for four teams!

Dschebig: I can't totally agree with you that I won't experience the million (s). I'm well on my way. This whole crappy stock market thing is a HUGE opportunity for anyone who knows how it and the economy works. Takes some guts, but it's working just fine.
We ARE bored. Now we're talking about the economy and counting games...
I missed something, mightbite, what are you ranking there? Toughest teams?

Alan
Mon, 08/10/2009 - 8:10am

Thanks Blake. I remember when Lance Galbraith hurt his knee. The K's kept him out one extra game so he didn't pass over to the veteran status. ( In the end it didn't do them any good as he left to return to Idaho the next season). I appreciate your reply. Unless they play around with the IR rules somewhat, there will be some good, popular hockey players let go during training camp. I still want to see one more player-a good offensive minded defenseman. I have no idea where they would put him. This is probably the most talented pre-season roster I have seen for quite a while.

RK-It was meant as toung in cheek. I will need to win the lottery for my 2nd. million. You just never know. someone is going to win the Powerball sooner or later. It just might be me! All I really know is I can't win if I don't play. After all it's only $1. You are absolutely correct. We need the hockey season to start and soon!

RunningKomet

Maybe with your second million you can heavily invest in a minor league hockey team, Dschebig! Probably get a good deal if you love urban parts of Michigan.

RK- With my second million I think I will talk to you about who your broker might be. That way he and I could turn one into 2 or 3 million. Mine is doing a good job but is sounds like yours might be better. Mine is a retired Komet and does a good job for me. I wouldn't give up my (small) part with the K's to own any team in Michigan regardless of the sport.

The problem with the stock market is that you have to have something more than dryer lint in your pockets to get involved with it in the first place.

So RK... you seem to have something more there. Can I have some? C'mon. After a certain point, it's all just for show anyway, right? :D ;)

mightbite: As long as your rankings don't reflect final season standings, it's all good.

Wendy: I got started on a teacher's budget, so with some saving and self discipline, it can happen.

Dschebig: The guy who got me started was my college coach. He also used to teach high school, but now the interest on his stocks, alone, is more than his wife brings in (she is a pediatrician who owns her own practice). Now I listen quite a bit to a friend of mine who is a bank president and does quite well. I'm not a Buffet or Bloomberg by any means, but I'm learning :) I have learned the market is like one of those flocks of birds you see in the fields in the fall: one gets spooked and the whole flock takes off.

RK at my age I leave it up to the experts to manage my 401k. If he tells me to move it, I say where to and how much. I only have a few more years to play the game. Hardly worth jumping in with both feet. If I got out right now it wouldn't be to bad of a payback. I have just about got everything back from the big drop. I don't really thing he has done me wrong. I wish you good luck!

There will no MWHL in Fort Wayne....false alarm. Merged with the AAHL and there are now 6 AAHL teams, we need one more...maybe the K-Wings will drop out of the ECHL and be Flint's AAHL affiliate...LOL
