Tailing the Komets

Wheels on the bus go...

The Komets are getting their sleeper bus from a company in Alabama. How'd you like to be the poor slob who has to make that trip just to get up here and then drive again for three nights. It's the same company Evansville used last weekend. It will sleep 23 or 24 people. It's also got couches and a small kitchen.

Neil Musselwhite will not play in a game for at least 10 days if the Komets sign him. He's been skating in Germany, but he needs immigration paperwork completed and some new skates. The skates he was using this season were left behind in Germany.

Looks like the Komets will use the same lineup this weekend as they used last week. Danko Mironovic could come off IR is someone gets hurt Thursday or Friday. He looked ready to go in practice today.

Well, nevermind then......where the heck do you get hockey skates in this day and age. It might take take 4 months to get those....seeing that it will involve an ironsmith and a cobbler. Then they will need a stagecoach service to deliver those things.

What the heck is this thing that I am using to send my message on??? Telegraph?

Someone wire Albert Ulysses Gore and get him to invent some sort of system to communicate with others....and maybe to shop for hockey skates.......

I am going to the Saloon to get a foo foo.....

Blake, is the whole immigration paperwork nightmare the reason we have seen so many USA born players on the roster this year?

Is it the same bus company that Evansville has used all year? They've already had 1 breakdown this year

Yes, definitely JR. CHL has different rules than the IHL had. IHL allowed players to play and THEN get the paperwork. CHL requires you to have the paperwork first.

Hit, any player, especially pro players, will tell you particular skates really matter. Players have patterns for skates just like they do sticks. Some of the players have... I want to say this correctly because they were not necessarily blaming this... but the CHL has a deal with a particular equipment company and players are required to use that equipment. That means a larger number of players are using sticks this season that they have never used before. Some of the players have mentioned this when talking about their lack of scoring so far. They are still getting used to their new sticks after using other brands and patterns the rest of their lives. Since I have never played, I could see that being a factor or it could be all psychological. All I know for sure is that nobody is more superstitious or routine-oriented than a professional athlete.

Don't know what it costs, and they aren't saying. I'm sure it's not cheap to rent a bus from Alabama. Believe me, from my experience, usually things from Alabama end up costing you a ton of money.

Thanks Blake...

I know that I have read where alot of NHL players have molds made of thier feet to have form fitting skates...

I knew of this.....remember the Great Colin Chaulk Skate Debate of 1652??? (joking of course: 2008 right?)

We talked his skates into the ground I think...

There was another player that we had the discussion of skates about on here one other time.....can't recall who.....but this isn't the first time.

My previous post was Burgee-esk.......I was just yanking chains.......LOL

Good info though about the sticks and skates and the Magic Bus.

For the record.....I was not bashing Burgee.....I was joking and kidding.....

Can't believe that no one got the "here's your sign" joke. Oh well. I even tapped my microphone and nothing. Crickets.

Happy for Evansville. Roadtrip!!!

Go Komets!!!

My prediction is Patrosso scores 4 goals on this trip. And Cescon scores 1. And opens a can of whoop @&$ on someone.

Anyone CHL TVing the games this weekend? I am.

"They are still getting used to their new sticks after using other brands and patterns the rest of their lives."

Yeah, I can see how that would be an issue considering how players name their sticks and say each one has its own feel -- and that's when they are exactly the same brand and pattern.

It's more the curve on the end then the stick. Players know their shot and use certain curves to lift it. Skates are very important. Most players have skates that they always skated with since they were mites. How many players get around using the latest and greatest or a particular brand is that they have the equipment manager sew the tags from the brand they are promoting while skating with their old comfortable skates. It's all about selling product. Anyone see the new Easton stick out which has weights to counter the slap shot? Can you say gimmick? A little pricey for me at 279 bucks for a stick that's just going to break!

Why would he leave his skates in Germany?

I was told the team bought them and would not allow him to take them.

Saw the bus waiting in the coliseum parking lot, it's your basic mid to late 80's "tour" bus...Looks very similar to the bus Evansville used last weekend

Do any of the nearby ECHL teams use sleeper buses? Can't imagine other hockey teams in Michigan or Ohio are using an Alabama bus. Who does Quad City and Bloomington use? Oh, and thanks Blake for the answer about the skates.

I knew a guy once who wasn't a very good tennis player, but he was always drooling over the most expensive rackets in the sports stores, convinced that if he could just buy one, he'd turn into Andre Agassi or something. The equipment one uses does matter, but it can only help so much.
