Where have all the nellies gone?

Where are all the red headed hockey chicks?

Chaulker, come out from behind that fake name and I'll respect your opinions a little more, majority of us on here know who each other is. I'll post who I am next post.

Blackhawks in 5 but I am betting philly in 7, I've been betting against CW all playoffs and its paying off! (Schebig, CW is conventional wisdom)

And for the first time ever, Schebig has a higher word count than Alan this week!

Disclaimer: I typed this on a blackberry without my bifooguls, any intrepretation other than what I intended, spelling or grammatical errors, well tough noogie.

So if he said his name was Ken Smith that would give his opinions any more value??? You dont know Ken Smith any better than you know Chaulker (which is not his name, fyi)... So how does knowing someones name give any more validity to thier information or opinion?

Writers will sometimes write under alias', journalists quote "sources" without giving names and bloggers post under "handles" (or whatever the heck you wanna call it)... I dont see what the big deal is???

Blogs and message boards have broken some of the bigger news in the IHL over the last couple years and those guys didnt post under thier real names; but it didnt make the news any less valid.... IMO

I have to go with 2003. I honestly believe Chaulk was in the prime of his career at that time.
Add the likes of Venedam, Stewart, Virag, Perrault to even the role players like Severson and Ortmeyer and you had a team that could have competed with many
AHL teams night in and night out.

Ooops hit the submit button too quickly...
2008 of the last 3.
But 2003 of the 4 teams that won. The team that lost to Musky in the finals was probably better than the 2009 team that won it all.

Burgee, it's an internet blog about a sports team. You're thinking that I want your respect on my opinions, I don't. I've seen what you're opinions are, and I don't care what your real name is. In fact, I can't remember one time where I thought to myself, hmmmm, I wonder what Burgee's real name is so I can really get to the bottom of his opinion. Not really. You can put your name as Tom McGuffy, Thad Tower, or Sammy Rual......what does that matter? I see your views on the IHL and I don't agree w/ them, so having a name won't help us agree or me respect your opinion.

I'm not an IHL official, I don't have any affiliation w/ the team, Costanzo, or any other sports franchise. Putting my name out there does zero good to anybody.

Here's my name, Foster McMillan Fart Henry Obama. Now do you agree w/ me that Costanzo never wrote one piece to influence Musky's choice of leaving this pathetic league? Didn't think so.

Well, that about does it for me. Blake, can you please send me Steve, Alan, Burgee and Dennis' email addresses. Sorry to see you have to go through that Dennis.
Mike out.

Mike-- He is really harmless. He means well. I'll give him credit for his opinions. Everybody has the right to be wrong. Everyone that I know has made mistakes at some point in their life. Most of the time I enjoy reading others ideas and opinions. Some of those even help me change mine others I just laugh at. Blogger are like hockey players (think about this) some are really very good and than there are some who just want to be players. We (blogger) just hope we fall some place in between. When we make the "Big Time" we get our own blog. Than the real headaches begin. Just ask Blake!

To paraphrase Chaulker, the question is, how does a beat writer in Port Huron who wrote one article that could be concieved as negative towards the league at the end of the year be directly responsible for a team in Muskegon leaving the IHL as asserted by someone commenting here???
Ron Ropp is the "silent" beat writer in Muskegon who would have more of an influence towards the league in Muskegon, so I would think that that statement should be directed more at him than a writer from a different league city... This is my guess; but I think that is the question that Chaulker is trying to get answered...

I visit several different hockey blogs/message boards and if you dont like someones posting just move past them... There are people here that I read line for line and others I just browse over or ignore completely... Thats an easier option than getting someone banned or not reading the blog. Lets be adults, and part of that entails dealing with opinions that differ from yours in a positive manner. IMO

Thanks JR, if you noticed anything throughout this entire process of blogging, I did not call anyone "ignorant" or any names, did not question anyone's opinions, if I didn't agree w/ something I def. didn't call them stupid for feeling that way.

Mr. Schebig is an outstanding gentleman, I only came to that because him and I were able to have a decent conversation. I apologized for questioning his involvement w/ the K's/IHL official, because he explained it to me. He doesn't have to spend the time to do that, but you can tell he's a genuine guy.

What's happening on this blog is name calling happens because opinions are not agreed upon, someone gets backed into a corner, and their only response is to call someone stupid. It's easy to do that, instead of asking questions, getting stats to prove points. Most bloggers on here get mad when others are not happy w/ the league they are in. If someone said "the Blackhawks suck", they're not going to win the stanley cup, how/why/and where did you form that opinion? I'm curious. If it's said that this league is not my cup of tea and I express that, I get called dumb and stupid, but NO ONE has said why this is a good league, NO ONE has given any decent reasons why we're not in the AHL, we're just told to go away. I'm looking for answers, that's it.

I didn't mean to come on here and break up your party Mike in Toronto, that's not my goal/purpose. Mr. Burgee wants my name, why? Why do I care what his name is? What is that going to prove/solve? Some of you think I'm related to Paul Costanzo because I'm defending him, I'm not defending him, I'm saying you don't have proof that he's written stuff against the league. Leaving the blog/cussing/calling names is all an easy way to get out of a decent conversation that you can't handle or prove w/ solid facts/opinions.

Mike in Toronto
Wed, 05/26/2010 - 8:36am

Not my party, Chaulker. And JR I think everyone got the question being asked. I just feel there is a way of expressing one's opinions without disparaging remarks directed at other individuals and institutions.
The way I read it, you have expressed your opinions and in so doing have questioned Dshcebig's integrity, berated the league and lampooned your president. Oh, and was it you who needed to be reminded of the Turner Cup being named in honor of a fallen soldier?
Your question about the league can't be answered here. Call the Frankes and see what is going on.

Chaulker
Wed, 05/26/2010 - 8:52am

Berated the President?? Is he the only one w/ the last name Obama? Sorry, cry me a river.

I know the history of Joseph Turner, I didn't need to read Blake's recent article on it. The Franke's didn't need permission from the Hockey Hall of Fame to use Joseph Turner's name, they did however, need and asked to use the old Turner Cup, and they said no. So it was pretty easy to get a new one made at Marc Fore. It's not like the old one was 50 years old, it was just used in the early 2000's. There's a reason they didn't let them use it and it has nothing to do w/ the cup's condition.

You're making things up and digging WAY too deep into it. Don't tell me I'm not respecting a fallen soldier because of what this league does....there are lines, but you've just made the first step over them. Geesh. Make it political why don't ya.

Chaulker
Wed, 05/26/2010 - 9:01am

Maybe the guys that leave the cup in the bottom of the pool, drink beer out of it, and throw it around and take it fishing aren't remembering the person that it's named after.

The one thing I didn't hear out of all three years they've won the cup, was any moment of silence or memorial ceremony for Joseph Turner during the celebration.

To Mike in Toronto: Mike, don't leave this blog because you are tired of the crap that went on here. You give this blog good information, insight, and always a message everyone can respect. If you quit because of Chaulker's stubborness to drop this thing, well, the blog will be poorer for it. Hang in there. Don't let others frustrate you to the point you want to quit.

We all have the right to post, but that was quite a rant. Out of 68 posts I counted 19 submitted by Chaulker. Whatever point he was trying to make was lost by his refusal to take a step back and stop beating the dead horse.

Dschebig, you have no reason to apologize to me. You did what you did because he would not let it go. I wouldn't have felt right if I hadn't stepped in to offer my support to you. Those of us who know you understand your loyalty and dedication. You didn't deserve the crap that was thrust upon you, especially, and I mean ESPECIALLY, questioning your honesty and integrity.

Again, to Mike in Toronto. Hang in there and don't let this be the last time we read your offerings. I have a feeling that this summer is going to be a goofy offseason. We need all the common sense we can get.

( Apologies go out to Dschebig, Burgee, and RunningKomet for the length of this. I just don't like it when a friend gets stomped on.)

RunningKomet

I guess I could be missing something here but I don't really see where anyone on either side of this has really been all that disprespectful. Chaulker at one point questioned if Dschebig may allow his opinions into his scorekeeping, but then Dschebig explained it and Chaulker apologized. From what I've read, Dschebig and Chaulker don't really seem to have a problem with each other and they have both said (numerous times) that they respect each other and have even changed the subject several times. I don't see this as Chaulker or Dschebig not dropping it, but more so as everyone who wasn't involved in the conversation as not dropping it (and now I'm included on that list). It seems like a lot of people really have some thin skin on here.

I'll probably be unpopular for this also, but I don't get the whole "real name" argument either. Someone much more famous than I (Shakespeare) once wrote:

'Tis but thy name that is my enemy;
Thou art thyself, though not a Montague.
What's Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot,
Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part
Belonging to a man. O, be some other name!
What's in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;
So Romeo would, were he not Romeo call'd,
Retain that dear perfection which he owes
Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name,
And for that name which is no part of thee
Take all myself.

Take that, Alan. I bet you've never rocked some Shakespeare in a hockey blog before!

Just a little tidbit for the conversation... The Musky to USHL thing has been in the works for a couple years at least... When the K-Wings jumped ship to the ECHL, I'm told there was an offer to a few other teams in the IHL (K's included) that was shot down after some fast talking internally in the IHL... Musky had the option to go ECHL and they were also being courted by the USHL at the same time. They decided to stick with the IHL for one more season at least from what i have been able to gather.

My guess is that after the problems in Dayton and Flint early on this season and the USHL's desire to get some closer franchises for the USA hockey backed teams out of Ann Arbor got the ball rolling towards the juniors again and they made the jump. They decided to stop bleeding money and go with a more stabile league... Based on this information it is my opinion that a beat writer out of Port Huron could have absolutely nothing to do with a team from Muskegon leaving the IHL...

RunningKomet, you are correct. I've never combined the works of Shakespeare and comments in a hockey blog before.

However, I am not a stranger to his works and recognized your offering as part of "Romeo and Juliet".

Let me offer my favorite line from Shakespeare's "Hamlet".

"To thine own self be true...." I wouldn't have felt "true" to myself if I hadn't interjected my thoughts supporting Dschebig and my asking Mike in Toronto to reconsider his decision to leave this blog.

Good for you, RunningKomet. "Thou hast made thy meaning clear. Just as the sun shines down upon our poor wretched souls opening our hearts to the warmth of life, your words have opened our ears to the truth."

That wasn't from anything Shakespeare wrote. I just made it up.

Chaulker
Wed, 05/26/2010 - 10:33am

Mike, thank you, like I said, I'm not out to offend people. And thank you runningkomet.

I am being "stubborn", sorry. I really don't have to come here and I certainly don't want to offend anyone.

You have all seen my at Komet's games, I'm sure that I have joked around with a lot of you, we've all been going for a very long time, the chances are slim that we haven't run into each other. And I guarantee not one time have I had a conversation w/ someone at a hockey and the guy left saying, "He's a jerk".

JR and I are friends outside of the bloggosphere. We are also moderators at an internet message board that is devoted to the IHL. We have over 700+ members from all different cities and there is not one article that is out there that is IHL related that is not posted on our site. I post Blake's stuff all of the time because he is a wonderful source of IHL information. (I ALWAYS credit him and the News Sentinel also) I am not going to give the name of the site, because I am not on here to promote it, gain members, or views/hits. It doesn't matter to me. What I am going to say, email Blake if you want the address on the internet and check it out. It is a great opportunity to see what other fans of other leagues/IHL teams and hockey fans in general feel and say about the IHL. You may not agree with them, but there opinions are ALWAYS welcome. Name calling is not permitted and handled swiftly. You are safe to love the league and hate it, that's how we operate.

My point? Look at some different views of the league, get that information coming out of other cities. In fact, there are many other message boards out there, some good, some bad. I'm biased to ours because I feel that it is well moderated.

Again, I am not promoting our site, because I will not post it on here, but there are other options with more information. My #1 goal is to put out a lot of information about the IHL. I know the IHL backwards and forwards, doesn't mean I'm right about it, but I do form my opinion's based on a lot of outlets of information.

WOW! Look at all the hits Blake has recieved. Culture is why out of my league, JR & Alan sorry about that! I have excepted Chaulker's apology. It is obvious he will meet me one day. I truly appreciate the support. But, I am a big boy. If I dish it out I expect to take it from anyone who may disagree. If I say this please don't take it wrong, Opinions are like AH's everyone has one. They are very healthy (opinions) at least on this blog. Folks (can't say guys) I haven't got a clue as to what will fallout in the next few weeks. For all I know Minor League Hockey could go nuts (get smart) and totally re-organize. They could form totally new leagues with 20 teams each. Only the Hockey God's know and they aren't talking. They never do anything until someone (the Blackhawks I hope) wins the Stanley Cup. Then they get serious. We all love and support the Komets. I think I will just wait and see what happens. I know this much with pretty good certainty there will be hockey in Fort Wayne next year. The Lord willing Blake will cover it and Bob Chase will broadcast it. Hopefully that let me keep score. No one should ever be insulted or chased away, period!

mightbite--I have a better idea. Let's meet at Burgee's and have a pool party. The water would be good for your rotator cuff. Burgee can buy the Foo Foos for everyone. He has WiFi and we can all blog till we go goofy. That will not work! We are goofy already. Well, we can solve ALL of the Hockey problems, trade war stories and debate who was the toughest, biggest, badest and bestest teams in every league. If we get a headache Mike has those little pills and suntan lotion to chase them. What do you think good idea and one of my more crazy ones? I was going to say stupid but someone earlier said that wasn't a good word to use. I'll call Jimmy Hawthorne to referee if he is needed.
