A source, was it deep throat, wait, he died. Was it Brosal? i find it hard to believe anyone who knows what is happening is talking. Maybe that radio station needed some ratings.

I bet Schebig spewed the beans again.

Burgee- My beans come out the wrong end.

I would be very interested in what Chaulker is hearing since he has all those sources.

We can sure tell when Blake is on vacation! It should be about over and than we can get the straight skinny.

Rumor had it a couple days ago (from a different source) that the IHL had submitted scheduling options with the CHL during thier talks... This rumor has a merger taking place and not the IHL folding... This would strengthen the CHL and give them a foothold in the midwest and save face for the IHL by not folding... The chatter is picking up, there was a news article out of Quad City saying that the Mallards future was bright and sunny. Movement is happening quickly now.

BTW, the ECHL wanted the IHL members to submit entry requests as individual teams and not as a merger. The IHL franchises seem to be sticking together and trying to do whats best for the entire league. Sounds like the ECHL only wanted 2-3 IHL teams. The rest didnt meet owner or arena minimum standards... These are some of the rumors out there right now and with the article Brandon provided it would seem that these rumors are starting to solidify...

Have a great summer also Eddie...

The coliseum according to the AHL, ECHL, and CHL rule books doesn't fit the league standards. The players benches are to be located on the same side of the ice in the neutral zone. Would the coliseum have to be reconfigured to fit the rule book, or would the leagues give them an exemption?

Burgee has really picked up the trash-talking here lately. Hopefully none of this stuff is true or he'll hear a lot of it from everyone he's been bashing.

Regardless of what ends up happening, I'd just like to see some different competition.

I would much rather join the ECHL than the CHL....but I also would much rather have a "mid-west" type league over anything.

@ggeiselman

I think it just has to depend.

Rockford had to reconfigure everything when they moved to the AHL. But with Kalamazoo, their player benches aren't on the same side and they were fine.

CHL North = IHL.

Same teams over and over. One or two road trips to South Dakota or Missouri.

I fail to see how this is an improvement. Bloomy and QC make sense. Why wouldn't the Komets be in the ECHL? What happened to the "geographical footprint" that was harped on for so long? Toledo, Cinnci, Kzoo, FW, Port Huron, Dayton... There's a "geographic footprint". Or are we not disucussing geography since it no longer fits the purpose?

Not to poke holes in any thoeries; but there is a large monetary fine invovled with leaving the ECHL plus you have to leave the name and all trademarks with the league. Toledo also has a clause in thier contract that states that if they default the ECHL has the right to come in and take over the lease and team to find new owners, basically giving them first right of refusal (IHL"s favorite clause) in Toledo...

Cinncinnati leave after winning two championships in three years??? Doesnt seem logical....

I got my letter saying the "early bird" price extended to June 4/ this is something else, a nervous deal.

JR
Thu, 05/27/2010 - 10:41am

Gee, I wonder if they have been getting alot of calls from season ticket holders wondering what league they are pre-paying for??? I'm assuming that we will hear the big news before that date...

I've said I'm going to be patient and I'm not going to judge anything until it is official.

However, I trust my instincts and I'm afraid of the CHL. I haven't had a chance to think this all the way through, but it seems the CHL has as many, if not more problems than the IHL.

OK, I know they have more teams but they've lost two (Amarillo and Corpus Christi) this season. They lost the New Mexico Scorpions last season. They are in a pretty good contract squabble with the PHPA right now. The Komets would be the second farthest east team in the league stretching from Michigan to the southwestern United States. ( How does that fit a geographical footprint)? If they are going to travel that far then the IHL should have kept Elmira. The CHL has substantially fewer veterans on their rosters and only play a 64 game schedule. Did I pay more for that?

RunningKomet says he'd like to see different competition and I agree with that. It would be fun to see different teams, no doubt about it. My question, though, is this. If the IHL becomes a midwestern division of the CHL just how many times will we really see a "CHL" team in the Coliseum?

I guess I'm just on a rant because nothing has been stated officially. I do want to see hockey next year ( I better 'cause I just gave them a whole bunch of money) but I want it to make sense whatever the decision is.

The CHL would've been my last choice. First would be an IHL with a new team or two. Second would be a Midwestern league combining some teams that use common sense as an approach to do business, then maybe a link up with the ECHL to renew rivalries with K-Zoo, Toledo, Cincinnati.

JR is right when he says "its all about survival".

What I'm wondering is this: Is the "survival " designed for the long term, or is this merely to plug a hole?

Just after submitting my post above I went to Cohn's site. I suggest you all read his latest story and decide for yourself what this means.

Ashley
Thu, 05/27/2010 - 11:28am

They certainly made the right move by extending the early bird prices.

If its the CHL, they do need to lower ticket prices, as Alan has pointed out that it is a 64 game schedule. I know in the ECHL the prices for each playoff round goes up. And even for the IHL with the shorten schedule, prices should have dropped, not gone up.

I'm going w/ the theory that the ECHL thinks they are too good for their own good. Admiting only a few IHL teams because their arena doesn't meet their standards???? That's crap. They also let 2 original ECHL franchises go by the wayside in Johnstown earlier this year and Dayton a year ago. They also refused financial help to two teams last season, and they were gone by the All-Star break.

It's AA hockey, it's not NHL vs. KHL, there's no reason to have such high standards on arena's, except to lose money. The ECHL use to sell expansion franchises for 1 to 1.5 million dollars, now their worth? Zero, they just turn in franchises.

I think if the CHL does absorb the IHL, we'll be happy. You'll just pretty much play the same teams we are now and maybe have the option for some road trips. I like their business model, it seems much more solid then what the ECHL is offering, thus the talk has picked up w/ the CHL and gone no where w/ the ECHL.

One thing I will say about the Frankes, they are taking all of their teams w/ them and will not let them go. Which shows a lot of loyalty on their part.

(If this happens of course)

Having said that I think at this place in time, baring IHL expansion/continuation (yeah right) the ECHL is probably a better fit as far as fans go, especially considering traveling. As said though, not all IHL teams would make it.

Well, we knew it was going to be an interesting summer eh, and summer hasn't started yet..........

The smart owners are the ones who are not talking. Winks & Nods are not serious information and or leads. I truly believe all of the speculation is just that. Wishful thinking or dreaming. We have all seen some information leaked to see who jumps up and salutes. I also think when ALL of the T's are crossed and the I's dotted we will be given the straight stuff. Until than I just can not get all excited. I am to old and my BP is high enough. I must admit it is fun reading everyones ideas, desires, dreams and wishful thinking.

By the way--I have not been contacted for my ideas, desires or opinion. I guess that tells me they really don't care what I think. Oh well, I sleep good at night.

Superfan always goes on vacation when he!! is breaking loose. Always. LOL

He said he will be back June 2nd, wonder if the Franke presser will be June 2nd???

Was this a planned event and this has been in the works for a while? My guess is yes.

The letter from the Komets in the mail today was interesting timing with all this news breaking today.

Thw wording in it is also interesting....The IHL committed to delivering a great product with more teams....so on and so forth. I will have to grab the letter and type it here for those who haven't seen it......

Reading it, I wouldn't have guessed the Komets were going to the CHL. No way.
