Tailing the Komets

Who do you want?

The next coach of the Fort Wayne Komets will be?

Todd Brost is not a candidate (his choice). Pat Bingham is. Bruce Ramsay and Kevin Kaminski have applied as have ECHL coaches and AHL assistant coaches. Troy Neumeier is not a candidate because he still wants to play (good for him). The Komets have already heard from 12 people, and the process is just starting.

The Komets want someone who is very good at recruiting in college and juniors, a veteran coach with a winning record and a strong personality. They would also like to find a coach who can find tough players who can also play. They aren't too interested in goons.

The coaching search may mean a little change in the Komets' thoughts on returning players, but a lot of that will be determined on the salary cap issues. The majority will still not be asked back.

The ground rules here are that I'm not going to respond to every idea you come up with because A) I won't pretend to know everything the Frankes are thinking, B) if I did respond I wouldn't have time to do any publishable work which pays the bills; C) there's not as much going on right now as you may think and D) It might all be a conspiracy theory anyway, right?

BTW, congratulations to Justin on his wedding this weekend. Sucker! Talk about marrying over his head, I can't believe some woman would stoop so low. Hope the weather stays perfect like this for them.

I'll just be the one with the difference of opinions on Ramsey. I didn't think much of him as a player, certianly not as a tough guy. In fact I remember that a lot of his fights looked like a bad game of battleship, Right Cross-miss, left Uppercut-Miss.

Then how about remembering that he was at the end of his career, he was the only toughness on the team and he stood up for everybody. Remember that he never had a shift where he didn't give 100 percent. Remember the comeback against Binghamton he sparked in the playoffs, or the OT goal against QC, or the way he designed Muskegon's defense last year against the Komets in the finals. There's a reason the guy has so many rings. He's a winner and a leader.

Can't say I personally remember him given 100% all of the time. I remember the BC series, but don't remember Ramsey being much of a part of it. I don't have my stats with me to know about the OT goal, and until you mentioned it, I had no idea that was Ramsey who did that.

Rammer was the real reason they won the BC series. They were down going into the third period of the final game and he rallied the troops in the locker room between second and then threw his body at anything that moved. One of the most inspirational performances I've ever seen from a Komet. He did a lot of that kind of stuff behind the scenes.

How about Kevin MacDonald?

Just a thought -
The one thing about Michael Franke (I don't know David very well to comment) is he's very approachable. He reminds me that they let the players play and the coaches coach. They give players and coaches chances to prove themselves and if something different needs to happen, then they step in and make the necessary changes.

I'd like to think the change of atmosphere will do everyone well - Puhalski a new team and returning players a clean slate.

Kevin, another great guy, is out of coaching.

Sooo How about this gripping Poland?Ecuador soccer game? (yes I am am loser and watching it lol)
Finding a new coach is such a complicated process.
I mean, if you look for a guy with "experience" as a head coach, he is most likely available because he is out of a job. Normally that means he is coming off some kind of failure whether it be just a bad season or long term. Sometimes of course it can happen when a team moves, changes general managers etc. A guy who has never been a head coach before is risky because maybe the guy knows what he is doing, maybe he doesn't. Do the Komets want to be the test tube for him? I would love to see a list of the people who have contacted the team interested in the job. When an opening like this comes around, you never know who might come out of the woodwork.

Wow. Ramsey is a genius? Look at his head coaching record. Not that impressive.

Yeah, I'd condemn him pretty easily for not winning in Port Huron where the owners are always looking to bail, the fans don't show up and no one wants to player. It's all about circumstances. Look at Bruce Boudreau, he struggled here in the IHL days during the NHL lockout in part because the Komets had no way to compete financially with the other IHL cities. Now he's in the AHL finals. I'm guessing a lot of people on this blog were probably screaming for his head at the time.

Ramsay would be a great choice. He was a great leader the time he played here...always gave his best effort on the ice and you are right Blake, he put is body on anything that moved, sometimes hit things that weren't moving too. He would be a great choice because I think he would add that extra quality of wanting to entertain the crowd by getting his players to perform night in and night out and also by demanding them to play tough. That is what we all have wanted this past season and before. Give that guy a shot. It sounds to me though that maybe Killer has the foot in the door first though, seems like when the Komets drafted 4 guys off his old team that he personally recommended to the team, he would be the guy getting ready to step in....????? Either guy would be liked here, no doubt about it. We would see a team that played hard night in and night out and also allowed to display their talent outside of some BS system.

Hit, Killer didn't recommend them to the Komets, I called him to get his reaction to them after they were drafted.

I'll bet not one of you would want to trade phone bills with me this month. LOL.

Odds are that it will be one of the two of those guys, right? I like that both of them are being considered. Have any thoughts on it Super Fan. I mean Chief....LOL

If Danbury goes down the crapper and doesn't play, that would make Gillis available. If they do play he has to question his reputation being associated with the likes of Galante. I would be on the phone to this guy. He's a coach, not an ex-goon with a losing coaching record.

Not necessarily, Hit. JM, Danbury is expected to play next year.

I understand that. But I wonder if Gillis will want to be involved with all of this nonsense looming over the team. I'm also pretty sure his compensation is nothing to sneeze at. I just threw it out there.
