USA 1 Swiss 0 at the end of the 1st period... Bobby Ryuan puts the good guys up in the last minute of the 1st... Swiss are hitting alot and the game definetly has a north american feel so far...

During the 1st intermission of the USA/Swiss game all they can talk about is Team Canada... I think I'll puke if they talk about Sidney Crysby one more freaking time... Of course, I really shouldnt expect anything less since they have a bunch of Canadiens doing the reporting....lol

Go USA!

One practice before the first game is showing, hopefully they can get it together before they play the canucks this weekend.

Anyone know why the NCAA regional championship got moved to 8:00pm on that sunday instead of 2;00?

Jeremy Roneck vs. Mike Milbury is going to be the best match up of the Olympics

JR
Tue, 02/16/2010 - 5:45pm

Team USA wins 3-1...nice start...some rust on the line combos needs to be shed before they start playing the big boys (which will come with more practicing)....

Is anybody else sick of those idiots in the corner trying to stick their heads onto the set between periods? What are they, 12? Grow the heck up you cornballs. They need an enforcer on the set!

Go USA!
Tue, 02/16/2010 - 8:33pm

It might be good for tv but not the crowd, 8:00 pm on a sunday? what do you do just sit by the computer waiting to jump on someone. it was just a question?

Trying to stick their heads onto the set? You're right. Grow up and do something really creative like using sock puppets.

Milbury needs to be put in a nursing home!

Go TEAM RUSSIA!!!

Sorry.. I love America, but Russia has the best players in the tournament.

How bout Iginla's hat trick?

Sorry, JR. Is it the NBC crew doing the hockey on USA? If so out of 9 people, I think only one Pierre McGuire is Canadian. There is no doubt Canada should be the favorite on home ice, but anything can happen. USA is fast like they were at the World Juniors. The big Olympic ice surface would have helped them. The Russians have probably the five best players but do they have the best "team"? We shall see over the next few weeks.

Hey, is anyone there? I don't mind you giving our Canadian rhetoric the business. For the most part they deserve it. And you should be giving the American side everything you can. The games are played on the ice. Let's hope they are all good games at least between the contenders. It would be too much to hope for the best team to win. And I don't necessarily think it is Canada. In the Olympics a lot of things can happen that keeps the best team from winning, just like regular play.

To Mike in Toronto. The United States is very lucky to have a neighbor like Canada. I remember when I was 14 years old and with my family at Daytona Beach, Florida on vacation. There were three 18 year old Canadian kids there at the same time. Somehow I met them and will never forget the discussion we had as they were curious and interested in the views and opinions of an American kid who was facing (as we all were at that time) the prospect of going to war in Viet Nam. For me, the war would still be at least 4 years away ( but in 1966 there was no end in sight) and most males of that era always had Viet Nam in the back of their minds. When I became eligible, Nixon had started the "Vietnamization" of the war and my lottery number did not come up. My discussion with the Canadian guys was that I would do whatever was necessary for my Country and would not run from my responsibility. I just remember how those guys listened to me and how each of them were glad they didn't have to face war. My brother went, my cousin went, and Thank God, both came back. Many families were not that lucky. Those 18 year old kids listening to a 14 year old and asking so many questions was something I have never forgotten. Those who were alive during the 60's will be able to relate to this. A war that lasts for 13 years touches a lot of people in different ways. So, Mike in Toronto, I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the Canadian people and wonder often about those three 18 year old guys and how their lives turned out. This turned out to be a different kind of post for a hockey blog, eh?

Thanks Mike, I hope the games are good and without controversy, and maybe the Americans can turn some heads.

Allan, thanks for that. We all remember what a terrible time that was. Unfortunately we are facing some of the same things overseas now. American and Canadian soldiers are not coming back the way we would like them to.
It brings the Olympic Games into some perspective. When you consider the world is here competing in no small measure due to the sacrifices of people like your family members and friends.
Through the many conflicts our countries have partnered in we can still cheer on our teams. We are of the same vintage my friend. Let's continue to tease, cajole and whine a little, but not too much. All in fun. But with the respect for each other that all good partners have.
rgurney, I am sure the US team will gel and have a great tourney. Sunday's game will be epic. Which ever team wins will most likely face the Russians. As long as a North American team beats them, that's important.

I'm with you Mike, if the USA flames out the Red Wings fan in me still has Babcock and Yzerman to root for.

Doc Emrick is a friend of mine and he is the best play by play guy on tv. We both lived close to each other down in the Huntington area. I rmeber when he used to sit up in the last row under the press box at the coliseum and talk into a tape recorder practicing his play by play. When we did our first broadcast of the game of the week Doc talked to me and gave me some advice and I really liked him giving me his time! Doc is one class man!!!!
