Tailing the Komets

Wow, this is ugly

This has been by far the most boring game of the season, and that's saying something.

David Franke is lazy and stupid......realy.....

My spelling is taking a hit from reading too much...'REALLY'

The Komets don't spend money....REALLY?

The savior came back from Italy free of charge right?
These vets they are paying are cheaper than the rookies I wanted brought in, right?

I am with you on the coach, assistant coach and the vets.
And I can even go with you if you said David Franke was too loyal to the vets because I think so.
But they are spending way too MUCH money on vets who are not performing and on a coach who isn't getting it done.
Money/lazy wasn't the problem for David Franke. Spending too MUCH money on lazy staff and players is.
All of the above said, hasn't he earned enough respect around town with his years of success that one bad year doesn't get people calling for his head?

The question of how much of a liability Warner is may depend upon where he is playing. When he scored two goals a couple of games back he was was not playing defense. He was playing right wing on the power play. He started both of tbese shifts on defense and then slipped into the forward position before scoring the goals. As a forward he may be fine. As a defenseman, lets be honest, he has had more than the expected number of screw-ups that you ever want to see.

Friday's game was a whole-team problem. Everyone played like they were recovering from an all-night bender. No effort. No passion. No cares. No goals. Chaulk started his journey into the Heart of Darkness Friday night and, at this point, there is no sign of him re-emerging victorious from his quest.

I bet chaulk is wishing he made his plane ticket from Italy round trip.

I think Scarecrow just came off a bender with that post?

What?

Or maybe my wife gave me some roofies?

Doubt it.

LOL

And to go back to my lines.....

I was suggesting that Apod is a goal scorer if he has someone to pass the puck to him. Musselwhite and Francis....not the swiftest passers on the ice, and the 3 of those guys together are dangerous to the team defensively because none of them have the concept of getting back to help out in the defensive zone.

So spread the rookies out with the more experienced players is my suggestion.

When Leo comes back, this is what you have to do:

Chaulk, Apod, Lardner
Leo Curadeau Shafronov (or PC)
Francis, Schrock, OC
Musselwhite

They need to find a couple of energetic defensmen that play like madmen.

I smell a "MORAN" comment coming......

Maybe it's because some of us can't understand why some people hate him so much, JM. He's not a great player, but he's not nearly as bad as some portray him.

Mr Snufflupugus
Sat, 01/08/2011 - 1:41pm

Blake is correct. Brandon Warner is an average AA hockey player. He makes mistakes like most AA hockey players do. Erratic (did I spell that right? soo tired) passing and other flaws that Warner displays at times are what makes him a AA player.
I will say this, we can question effort of many people on this team but I don't recall doing it with him this often.

His being a Fort Wayne native may make him one of the last of the average AA players on this team to be cut but at the same time, if his mistakes are the reason you are winning or losing then you don't have a very good team anyway.

I'll agree with what Blake and Snuff have written. Has he led to losses? Absolutely. You can prob say that about any player on the team though. I'm not a supporter, but part of the reason the debates about him get so heated is that his defenders, who seem to have unexplainable obsessions with him, tend to try to lump his talents in with the likes of Lidstrom and Orr. Sorry, I just don't get that, no matter where he's from. The assessment that he's average for this league though is fair, if not a little generous. There are many who are worse though, I'm sure.

Hate seems strong. I don't think anyone has ever said "hate"... Some just don't like his playing style.

Blake Sebring
Sat, 01/08/2011 - 2:31pm

also never understood why some of you hated Kevin Bertram so much. I'll bet you'd kill to see him out there playing again. Or Rob Guinn, may he rest in peace. They were never perfect as players, but by God they gave an honest effort every night and made the most of the skills they had. All I'm saying is if you're going to give Brandon crap for the losses and the mistakes he makes, absolutely do so, but also give him credit when he does something right, which he actually does more of. You guys laugh at plus-minus, but do you realize how hard he has played this year to be plus on this team which can't score five-on-five? It's insane. By now shouldn't you recognize how hard it is to find defenseman at this level who can move the puck even a little bit? Other than Frankie, who else on this team can do that right now?

Blake, They hate him so much cause they can't be him. They were never good enough in the first place, or can't play period. They are just haters.

That's crap, too, InTheNet. That kind of reasoning, or lack of it, is just as bad and unrealistic.

For the record, many of us have said we would have no problem with Warner at forward... Its not the offensive end most have a problem with its in his own zone thats the problem. He benefits greatly from being DeAngelis' D partner.

Bertram never used his size enough...

Rob Guinn......wont speak ill of the departed...

People "will go to the end of the earth to defend Warner" because so many are going to the end of the earth to attack him. Extremism creates extremism.

As for why people hate on certain players, it reminds me to some extent of the old story about blindfolded people feeling only one part of an elephant and trying to determine what kind of animal it is. I think some people just can't or won't see the whole picture.

Let's talk about the "weather"....

Alan
Sat, 01/08/2011 - 6:10pm

OK. Lets stop beating around the bush with this Brandon Warner unceasing dialogue.

The reason some fans feel the way they do about Warner is that they perceive he is getting some kind of "special treatment" from the K's that has to do with his Dad.

Now look, I don't know if that is true or not and frankly I don't care.

Here is reality. You will never change the minds of those who think that is true. Conversely you will never change the minds of those who think he is great.

In fairness to him he is in a spot that he can't win whatever he does. Another player who suffered the same fate was Ron Ullyot. Both were from the Fort Wayne area.

The only problem with your analogy Wendy is that we're actually watching the games...

Plus, your analogy could be used for those fans who defend him no matter what as well...

Let's do talk about the weather you Morans!!!

Maybe you the solution to the weather Snuff?

I smell Komet Warrior?

My dislike for Warner stems purely from the fact that he is a bad defenseman. I could care less about the other stuff... I would have no problems if he were a forward because I believe his skill set is better suited for that position.

Hit Somebody!!!
Sat, 01/08/2011 - 6:23pm

Agreed JR......on both points.

You no Moran.

Sat, 01/08/2011 - 6:35pm

Everybody knows my dislike for him.....stating basically he is not a good dman and why other dmen are put on ir over him i will never understand.....he would be better suited on the offensive side of the puck since we lack the scoring there......when is sims going to reem this team for not getting in front of the net, crashing the net, screening the goalie......i have said and will say again sims is a very overrated coach and always has been......As far as tonights game goes wouldnt be surprised if dayton looks to take out some players especially chaulk since he is one of our better players on the team......The one guy who whether he can fight or not who would stick up for this team was put on IR last night for im sure no reason but to play musical chairs like they have done all year.....I will be POed if an injury happens tonight and we get pushed around we have seen in the past when we stick a scoring line out there against a goon line or guys looking to go after someone what that result is.....with that lets go komets!

Blake Sebring
Sat, 01/08/2011 - 6:44pm

I understand your position JR. There has always been a long history of Komets' fans not particularly caring for a lot of defensemen with offensive skills. Evans, Rob Doyle, Tom Pederson, Tom Nemeth, Oleg Shargarodsky, Bob Wilkie, Fredie Bouchard, A.J. Bozoian, Mike Dombkiewicz, Jason Kean, etc. That position, a defenseman who can move the puck, is the hardest one to fill. That's one reason, and only one of many, that has allowed Guy to stay around so long. Players who can do both, move the puck and play strong defensively, usually move up very quickly, but you MUST have them or you have no power play or much offense a lot of the time. If Frankie was two inches taller, he would not be here right now. If they were great defensively, they would not be here and then we'd all be crying because the defensemen don't help the forwards score. Imagine where the Komets would be this year if Frankie and Brandon were not around to help the forwards at all. OMG! They'd have about three wins. Good ones like Guy in his prime and Kelly Perrault are worth their weight in gold. That's how rare they are.

BTW, Brandon has not played forward on the PP this year. He's playing the weakside D and sneaking down low to take advantage of the weakside forward. That's his specific role in this power play design. IT does seem strange, though, that most of his PP goals are from in close to the net, but he is actually playing the defensive position in that power play.

Blake, right on about Bertram. I miss the heck out of him. When he was on the ice, I always felt confident the other team wouldn't score. Solid player. The so called haters of him didn't like him because he was big and didn't fight much his last year or two... Excellent AA defenseman.
