1-1 after the first period. Shots 12-12 in a very fast-paced game without much hitting so far. Komets forecheck has been pretty steady and effective.

Komets scored first as Artem Podshendyalov and Chris Auger were on a forecheck and Podshendyalov took the puck behind the net to the far side whirled and scored.

Then J.M. Rizk was called for a legitimate boarding penalty against the Mallards' Jason Kostadine and Matt Duffy scored from the point on the ensuing power play.

Komets have mixed up their top two lines a bit. Podshendyalov is skating with Auger and Colin Chaulk with Tom Mele spotting Apod one time so far.

Second line is Brett Smith, Bobby Chaumont and Jesse Bennefield. They got caught once badly for a 4-on-2 where Nick Boucher made the save and another time for a 3-on-2 that the defenseman broke up.

Defensive pairings are the same.

Not a ton to pay attention to so far, just back and forth. Kind of a tough camera angle so far away from the action, too. We'll deal with it.

Brian Lavelle has made a couple of nice comments about Bob.

Rizk is going to score. He's already got five shots and has had about three really good scoring chances.

APod's the best player on the ice tonight so far.

It's 3-1 Komets after two and shots are 24-19 Mallards

Brett Smith scored with a long wrist shot off the halfwall following an APod pass to give the Komets a 2-1 lead. I don't think David Brown ever saw it. Then at the end of the period, in the final seconds, Auger and Apod broke out 2-on-1 and Apod whipped a pass over the Auger who scored milliseconds before the final horn went off to end the period.

Quad City almost scored a couple of times, once again getting an odd-man rush against the Smith-Bennefield-Chaumont line, but Boucher made the save, and Justin Chwedoruk got around Jamie Lovell for a 1-on-1 chance, but Boucher got the blocker down in time.

Seems like the third line is the only one doing any hitting at all tonight among the forwards.

The Komets used a more traditional power-play formation on their one chance so far with two men on the points. They didn't seem to have any luck with it and I'm not sure they got a shot on goal. Apod earned that PP chance, too, with a hooking call on Jared Lavender.

Leo is back in town, but he is not playing tonight. He has not been activated yet from his leave.

Sorry, I've got to leave for a little bit to pick up a friend at the hospital. You'll have to fill me in on what happens when I get back. I'll hustle.

Good to see K's up after 2 periods, but it appears to be a non eventful game.  I wonder how much QC is putting into game with the rumors of the having pay roll issues etc.  But watching QC at times is more painful than watching paint dry

Blake - I dont know if you have noticed how much Rapid City has been in the "area" lately, but I was wondering why we didn't get a match up with them while they were on this trip. It seems like they have been here about two weeks. After last years newfound rivalry, why wouldn't they want the matchup? Are they ducking us after getting their 4 home games? How much do the Frankes have a say in the scheduling? I guess that's one more reason I'm looking forward to the ECHL. I look forward to the games where we play teams we don't see that much. As much as I need my hockey fix tomorrow, I'm kind of disappointed its versus Dayton. There is no reason we shouldn't have played Rapid City on their road trip. Good news is they are beating E'ville.

I don't know, Bam. Doesn't make sense to me, either.

Just so  you guys know, Bob is not going to do tomorrow's game, either. He's fine. Just got worn down last weekened. All the tests at the hospital came back good, but he's going to miss tomorrow''s game and Jim Shovlin is going to fill in with Robbie Irons.

Congrats to Nick Boucher for his 200th career win and his 200th game as a Komet. Not all at once or anything because that would be a record. Yeah, I stole the line.

Rush and Komets have played 5 games...Rush and Gems 6 games. I know It's only 1 game difference but considering we are 2 hours closer for the Rush we could've easily played a 7 game series. Instead of the Rush coming to Fort Wayne once and the K's playing in Rapid City 4 times.
