Tailing the Komets

This was no goal

No reason has been given so far on why Chris Auger's goal didn't count, but the Komets did not argue too much.

Not a bad performance by the Komets tonight.  They totally dominated the Mallards in the second period.  My only complaint is that they quit playing offensive hockey in the third period.  The 4 shots they generated in the period attest to that.  If they had been playing a top-notch team it could have bit them in the rear end.  As it ended up, they took some dumb penalties, gave Quad City a 5 on 3 power play, and ended up blowing the shutout.   Not real smart, in my mind.  It wasn't like the Mallards suddenly got better in the third period.  The Komets simply quit driving to the goal and applying consistent pressure on the Mallards.

I think they realized they had two more games this weekend on the road, and three in the next four days, and shut it down to save some energy. Don't like it, but it is the reality.

``He said that he thought that the goalie had the puck underneath him,'' Chris Auger said.

Looking at these photos, I am puzzled why this goal was disallowed.  I do not see any high sticks, nor do I see any goaltender interference by our players.  If anything, QC's #8, Lavender appears to be pushing Auger down to the ice along the front edge of the crease.....but that could also be simply follow-thru motion(s) by both players.

Good game, especially the 2nd period.  I'll take the win.....:)

We had a great view of this goal from out seats.  The referee was out of position and must have thought the goalie was laying on the puck.

We were sitting in sec. 221 and saw the whole thing. No question it was a good goal. The ref totally blew the call. Anyway, one of the best home games so far this season at least for the first two periods. They got a little off their game in the third but luckily QC was down for the count. If the Komets come out swinging to start out every game there's no stopping them.
