Tailing the Komets

Slow start kills Ks' chances in Dayton

Wednesday's story is here.

The Fort Wayne Komets should have set their clocks ahead a few days early, because an hour into Tuesday's game, not even Daylight Saving Time could have helped them make up for a slow start.

At least Evansville is having the same problems and we aren't losing any ground...yet!

This has got to be the most immature Komet team in years.  All this talk we have heard from players and Al Sims about "character" is pure and simple hogwash!  Any mention of "leadership" is nothing else but a fairy tale.

For a team coming into a game like last night's, against a clearly inferior team, to give the kind of effort they did is inexcusable.  Considering the situation,  and what was at stake in terms of playoff implications, this team has advertised it's relunctance to give a crap.  I don't know why I would be surprised.  We have seen it most of the year.  Either they cannot score consistantly, or when they feel their backs are against the wall, then they decide to turn it on. Most of the time it is too late.

Some, as did Janice above, mention that Evansville lost also and at least we are still tied.  Janice is very correct.  Still, all in all, that is Evansville's problem, not Fort Wayne's.  This was an opprortunity to get two very valuable points.  Yes, it was a "trap" game but those players and Coaches knew it going in and should have been prepared to bear down.  This is especially true when you remember that Dayton beat them 5-0 in the last game at Hara.  That fact alone should have motivated them to avenge that game.

I think Chaumont really misses Smith.  I don't know what to think of Thomas and Bennefield. If you can't score, than just stay with your man so they don't score.  If you don't care, then stay home.  We can lose without you just as easy as with you.

One last thing.  The talk about the playoff schedule and ice availability at the Coliseum may be a little premature.  I wish that Disney on Ice was scheduled earlier.  Maybe the Disney on Ice people  have skaters the Komets could use.

On second thought, we have enough Goofy's and Snow White's already.

This is one where the game sheet tells the whole story. Badly outshot upfront, dig themselves a 4-0 hole, try to turn it on in the 2nd, finally score on the PP then add two quick ones halfway through the 3rd before a late penalty sinks everything. I hate to say it, but the K's deserved to lose this one.
