Interesting views regarding home ice advantage, don't you think?

" I don't think home ice should matter in the playoffs, period.  It has nothing to do with anything."  - Joe Ferras ( Rapid City head coach).

"I don't think home ice matters in any series really, and that's even proven in the NHL where you see plenty of teams lose at home." -Nick Boucher ( Fort Wayne Komet goalie).

"It's huge". - Al Sims ( Fort Wayne Komet head coach).

If it isn't important then we sure waste a lot of time with regular season games.  If you buy into the fact that home ice advantage isn't important, please explain to me why it would've been better to play the game seven, triple overtime, Cup clinching game  on Port Huron's ice.

Another note:

Who is the author of "Icing the puck"?   Ken Elliot? Ken Elliot?  Come on now!  The name is Ken Ullyot.  Somebody needs to get smarter or hire a proofreader.  For as much as this man has meant to the Komets and the IHL, this is just embarrassing.

Speaking of the IHL.  I never thought I would say this but I miss the IHL officiating.  This group of referees and linesmen are just plain incompetent.  And that goes for both sides, for and against the Komets.  The playoffs should be a reward for the best officials.  If this is the best, then this league needs to reconsider their method of hiring.

The Komets need to, and better, send tapes to the CHL of the hit on Starenky and the chop on Schrock after he scored his goal.  It shouldn't matter if they can come back and play, a lesson needs to be sent to the offending players that the CHL will not tolerate that kind of stuff.  The league doesn't need that kind of reputation and has to protect it's players no matter what uniform they are wearing.

Finally, a big shout out to Janice and all of her sign helpers.  Janice, this is the best sign ever.

Don't let Ferras fool you. He had 3 goals for his team after January. #2 was gaining home ice advantage.

Funny how things don't matter when you have no chance of having them. Ferras would love to have home ice.

Obviously a copy editor being a tad bit aggressive because I had it correct when I submitted the story. I'll bet it was somebody's blasted spell check.

The point is, home ice really doesn't matter with these teams because they are so close. It only matters in the line match-ups.

Thanks Alan, Since people have started noticing the sign..and commenting on it...it holds so much more meaning for me. I always want to come away with the sign meaning something to the fans and to the players! This is one of my favorites so far.
