Tailing the Komets

This is from Alan

Since things have slowed up a bit, I was wondering your opinions on who the K's should bring back from last years' team next season.  Remember that you can only have four vets, a roster of twenty, and have a larger salary cap.

Are there any CHL players you would like the K's to talk to?  For example, I am hoping that they contact Brandon Marino who played with Quad City.

Think about it.  Have some fun with it, but remember not to "fall in love" with a player just because he wore the fireball.  It's tempting to want to bring most of the team back, but that is impossible with the new rules.

Be the GM.  No one is right, and no one is wrong.  Let's see what we come up with.

Veterans back:  Brett Smith, Colin Chaulk, Brent Henley, and Schrock

Thorne, Rizk, Molle, Mele, Maggio.

Assuming none of the above get AHL offers.  Fill in the gaps from there, but I believe this is a solid core with the obvious leadership and the most speed from last year.

I agree with those picks....I wouldn't be surprised if Chaulk comes back in a coaching role of some sort though!

Schrock is not a veteran.

Think you need to include Auger. He led us in goals and only played 57 games.

Vets: Chaulk, Henley, Smith, Vaskivuo

Non-vets: Rizk, Thorne, Schrock, Maggio

CHL players I'd like the K's to talk to: Marino, possibly Ornelas, Colton Yellow Horn (yeah, he was annoying when he played for Allen but he's one I'd like to see in the black and orange), and Vladimir Nikiforov.

I would consider bringing back:

Vets - Chaulk, Smith, Milam, and Henley

Others- Vaskivou, Auger, Shrock, Rizk, Thorne, Mele, DeAngelis, B. Molle, Maggio, and DeAngelis

I think Rizk is a must sign along with Maggio as long as they don't end up in the AHL.

I'm not sure why no one has DeAngelis on their list.  You guys have to remember this guy has played every season with probably the worst defenseman on the team.  2 years with Warner and 1 with Lovell who was bad during the regular season this year.

Schrock has to be brought back he is the future captain if Chaulk doesn't come back, Rizk needs to brought back he is the future scoring of the komets. I would like to see Nikiforov from Bloom. in a K's jersey. Also would be sweet to see Justin Hodgman back or Ratchuk because they can compete at ECHL level. If possible it would be sweet to see Effinger in net, he definatley can compete at ECHL level and competes every game. Bouch should be fine though

I'd also like to see the K's talk to Scott Darling, maybe also Randy McNaught and Jeff Terminesi. Hey, any idea if Dustin DeGagne would be a good addition?

I agree with those who say Auger and DeAngelis should return, can't believe I forgot to add them to my list :)

As for Effinger, not sure.....after the staring contest he and I had before game 7 he'd probably be scared to come back!

We won't see Justin Hodgman back for a few years other than to visit during the offseason. He signed a monster contract to play in the KHL so good for him.

Everyone has done a great job with your suggestions!!

I am hoping that the K's can offer Vaskivuo a contract with enough money to tempt him to come back.  I'm not sure what the difference in AHL money is compared to Europe ( I think the European contracts are tax free).  Vaskivuo would certainly enjoy a higher visability to the AHL with the ECHL Komets than he did with the CHL Komets.  Maybe Sims could get him a training camp spot with an AHL camp.  While it is not likely for him to come back, it has happened before.  Derek Patrosso signed with a Bruce Richardson team in England a couple of seasons ago and decided to play with the K's.  I think Vaskivuo is the perfect type of player for the new league.  Talent, youth, speed, skill, and a great attitude.

I hope that the K's stay away from a NHL affiliation with both Columbus and Calgary.  They are disasters.

Congrtaulations to Justin Hodgman on his new KHL contract.

Keep the suggestions coming.  This may be the most interesting training camp the K's have had in years.  Too bad the Coliseum won't open it up for the fans to watch.  My suggestion for the brass at the coliseum would be to open the practices up, make eveyone sit behind the screens at both ends, and hire a couple of red coats to make sure people stay where they are supposed to.  Yea, it will cost them a few dollars to pay the red coats, but they would make it up in a hurry with the parking fee.

Besides the "normal" expectations of Toledo, Kalamazoo, and Cicinnati, I am looking forward to seeing the Elmira Jackals come to the Coliseum.  Plenty of history with the Jackals, too.  Also they are led by former Komets coach Pat Bingham.

I'm also looking forward to seeing more ideas and suggestions about the future roster from all of you.  Thanks to everyone and thanks to Blake for giving this it's own thread.
