Thanks for all the articles and coverage, great job! Wish YouTube wasn't blocked at work, I'll watch the videos tonight.
Did anybody else notice that Witchita never got more than "3" goals in any game ?
(5-3 6-3 7-3 6-3) Great games and great team.
I took the day off so I can read all your great coverage (and sleep in!). Thanks for everything you've done this season, Blake. It's very much appreciated.
Thank you Blake for all your sleepless nights, the extra miles on your car, the writers cramps and the awesome live blogs. You go above and beyond so we can know everything about the Komets! Your an awesome beat writer and an even more wonderful person. Now get some sleep! :)
Sleep??? We are just starting...we need to figure out where we will play next year and who we need to bring back and then there is the debate about who will be walking in the parade for Three Rivers and what about our new logo and when we are going to hear about our pre-season games and ....
Just kidding Blake, thanks for all that you do!
Congrtaulations to the Fort wayne Komets as the 2011-2012 CHL Miron Cup Champions!!!
Some final thoughts as the outcome of the game and series became obvious and the clock ticked away to 0:00.
1) I was so happy for Coach Al Sims. He has taken a lot of crap for not being able to win at this level. Are you kidding me? Now, as that monkey is off his back, those who doubted him will have to re-think their position.
2) I thought how much Tim Hoke would have delighted in this playoff championship. The same thing goes for all Komet fans who passed away before or during this season.
3) My buddy Jack had pointed out to me that all five Cups, the IHL (AAA), the UHL (AA), the 3 IHL (AA), and the CHL (AA) titles were all won on Coliseum ice. How lucky for we Komet fans to see five cups raised on Coliseum ice. It is truly remarkable and we have the Franke brothers to thank for it.
4) Now those IHL Cups (three in a row) don't seem too cheap now, do they?
5) As Sharon pointed out earlier, in all four Komet wins, the Thunder scored three goals. What is unusual is that the loser of esch game scored three goals. Refer to Saturday and the Komet 4-3 loss.
6)....and lastly. I wonder what song Matt Gens is singing now??
Congrats to the K's and their fans. A job well done.
Great job by the Komets during the series. Even the Wichita Eagle sportswriter had had to say that the Komets were a much better team. See http://www.kansas.com/2012/05/07/2326724/fort-wayne-tops-thunder-wins-chl.html . Everything he says is true, but if I were a Thunder player I might be a little bit PO'ed about his eagerness to throw the Thunder team under the bus. No homeboy writing this.
Nice job on all the stories, Blake. And thanks for all of the great coverage of the Komets this year.
And to the Komets, thanks for bringing home another cup. This has been one of the most frustrating and fun seasons of Komet hockey for me since moving to the area in 1998. Frustrating with the inconsistency at times throughout the year. Fun watching all of the talent on this team take it to the opposition every night. Especially the dominating performance in the finals!
I'm looking forward to the end of season party and seeing the cup
Go Komets!
Thank you for the well-wishes, Frodawg. Even though we don't cheer for the same team I do like to read your insights.
Blake:
I'll be the first to ask....what's the latest on the ECHL? I understand that until the Franke announcement your remarks may be limited.,nonetheless I am most interested in your comments.
As I wrote in January, ``Has the decision already been made? No one wants to answer that question, but probably. This is too large a business move to wait until summer and cram all the planning in. There's no reason for the ECHL to wait until later to begin building next year's schedule.
Does anyone believe the Frankes will wait until the last second to make a decision when they've had two years to study the options? There's a reason they've lasted 22 years.''
It's just a matter of when the announcement comes. If they were staying with the CHL there's no reason not to have made that announcement months ago. To delay would have been a poor business decision, and they don't make too many of those.
My guess is the final announcement time is being worked out between the CHL and the ECHL as to what is best for both leagues. It'll be sooner rather than later.
I'm hoping that someday we see each other again (maybe in the E) ? The 2 years that our 2 teams battled were pure enjoyment to watch and provided a good rivalry to us fans. Here's to the future hockey fans and hope to see the K's again very soon.
Thank you Blake for all your hard work thruout the year, and especially the playoffs. The paper yesterday was unbelievable! I can't cut it to copy articles so I guess I will just put the whole thing in the scrapbook! Be proud, very proud!!!
While fights were not common during the playoffs, the Rapid City Rush believe that "Toughness was missing ingredient in CHL season". They are looking for a genuine enforcer for next season. See http://rapidcityjournal.com/sports/rush-gm-toughness-was-missing-ingredient-in-chl-season/article_9e4124dc-89d5-11e1-ace2-001a4bcf887a.html . Smart or dumb, the Komets probably won't have deal with the Rush' answer to this question.
Scarecrow- only hoping that someday soon we will meet again and we will have to answer the question you are refering to. It only seems fitting that the K's & the Rush renew the rivalry in the very near future.
